Hello, everyone! I'll be honest! I've never even played a final fantasy game ._.
:p So I have a question. Which one should I start on? I've considered starting with one and going up, or starting with three since it apparently is better (or is that dragon quest?)
I was gonna go on ask dawt com or whatever, but I decided to come to the pros <3
My post count will probably stay at one for a while, but I intend to stay!
I can play games on the game boy (color), GBA, wii, virtual console of the wii (covers I-III, FFA, and maybe IV), ds, 3ds, and GameCube. whew.

Thanks in advance, and pleased to meet you!

._.who does this kid think he is lol

That's what alot of people try to do; work from 1-13 but meh, I'm glad I didn't. The consoles you have available to you arent exactly FF friendly... I'd try and start with VI untill you get a PS or Steam and are able to try 7/8.

The order I played them in Was 7,8,9,10,10-2,12,1,2,6,13 and FFTA somewhere in between. However 12,1,2,6,13 I didnt get very far at all.

And technically your post count is still 0 :wacky: due to posts not counting in this sub-forum]

Edit: oh yeah, Hi.

If you have a PC as well, you can play FFVII-IX on there still, I believe. I've never played them on the PC, so I don't know how it compares, but I know people who did that.

FFI is an interesting game, but it is a very, very simple game. It is not at all like what the Final Fantasy series became. To get a true insight into what Final Fantasy is I suggest particularly playing all FFs from IV-X.

But since you lack a PS or a PS2, etc, I'd suggest playing IV-VI on your Nintendo handhelds, then perhaps I-III if you liked the others (but note that these earlier games are much simpler, concerning storylines and characters). If you are able to acquire FFVII-IX on the PC, or by some other means I do not know about, then definitely make sure to play these as for many it is these games which had people hooked on the series.

Personally for me, FFVI and FFVII are jointly my two favourites, but I find something to like in all Final Fantasies, generally speaking.

Welcome to the forums! :argor:

I hope to see you around.

You can play any of them first, they all have self-contained stories and don't relate to each other besides references and cameos (Gilgamesh).

The first three I played were VIII, and then VII, and then X. To me, that's a perfect combination for an introduction to the franchise, especially if you find the Super Nintendo games a little boring. Because VII and VIII are the PSX games (IX is too but I never got round to that one), not too boring but not too overwhelming either, and X will feel like a direct upgrade but with a completely separate and unforgettable story. X and XII are the PS2 games. XII is quite experimental for most fans but I personally enjoyed it. XIII is the next one up that has a similar engine to VII, VIII and X, this one's on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

If you play X and find that you absolutely loved it, like I did, it has a sequel that is associated with the story, this one's called X-2. Same goes for if you loved XIII, that one has two sequels to its story, XIII-2 and "Lightning Returns". But only play Lightning Returns if you're in love with the main character from the first game, as it's the first game to be a third installment in a numbered title.

Hope that helps, but really, you can play any of them first. Most people I see tend to start with VII or X though, or sometimes VI.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks a ton, everyone! Since it would be easiest for me, I think I'll start from IV and pick and choose up from there. I didn't know they were all unrelated (mostly) to each other... That makes things easier.

Welcome! Be prepared to be sucked in to all that is Final Fantasy. As most have said it doesn't matter what you start with. Emulation is also a good way to play I-X and XII if you have a decent enough PC or laptop.
There are versions of the series especially those that were created earlier. If you are able to do Emulation I would recommend playing these versions listed:

Final Fantasy Origins which includes I and II
Final Fantasy III original NES. There is English fan translated version for Emulation
Final Fantasy Chronicles which contains Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy Anthology which contains V and VI

VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII are just one version.

I hope you enjoy the games. They aren't for everyone but I hope you like them. Have a good one.
