Gold Saucer Oddity

We do not know the extent of the technology available in that world, hell most people in the real world do not know the extent of what can be done locally. So we cannot say that anything as far as technology is concerned is impossible. As for the entrance to Golden Saucer, perhaps it was built before Corel was destroyed (another poster already said that it's age is unknown) and if so, the entrance to the Golden Saucer may have been a lot more welcoming than it is as we see it in the game. As for the prison, desert prison is only for people who commit crimes on the Golden Saucer (much like the cells in the Shin-ra building), thus the instant access and relation to chocobo racing in the prison, so why not keep it locally?

I find it strange they would put it there because they rely on people spending money there but most would probably be attacked and mugged by the people of Corel, perhaps they have a sort of deal with them, split the profits 50-50

It's sort of like Christmas. Even criminals tend to have a soft heart around that time of year. The Gold Saucer makes everyone want to hump other people and not mug them or shove iron spikes in anyones' face.

Think about it. You go to Disney World. You see Micky Mouse. He represents fun and sillyness and all that tender lovin' jazz. It softens the hearts of many and makes even the baddest of asses look like pussies. Micky Mouse inspires peace and flamboyance. The Gold Saucer inspires gambling and binge-drinking and screwed up family outings that you never want to go on again.

Corel has enough problems without getting a reputation for mugging entrants to Gold Saucer lol

In fact I've always viewed the Gold Saucer as having strong ties with Shinra.

ShinRa owns the Golden Saucer. Please see the map in the main lobby to confirm.

Corel being located beneath the Golden Saucer was wholly intentional. This is blatantly symbolic of oppression. It was designed to be a glaring contrast and disgustingly ironic.

Then I was right then.

Wasn't sure if it was stated in the game directly, or merely implied. But if you say it is stated, then that proves it then.

it does seem rather wierd that a place designed to entertain people would be placed smack in the centre of a desert. i think it was more likely that the gold saucer was built there before the desert actually formed, and that it formed very quickly

The idea of the Gold Saucer being right next to Corel is sadly quite believable, just this year I went to Uluru (that rock in the middle of the Desert) and stayed in the tourist village Yulara (which has two five star resorts). Twenty Kilometres away from Yulara is Mutitjulu where the people who live there live in third world conditions

So yeah I find the idea of the Gold Saucer being located in the middle of the desert next to Corel quite believable.
