Do you consider yourself really competitive in GFX?

Personally, I think it's the most competitive thing you can do here on this site mostly because whether you win or lose totally depends on you and your skills. I'm always up to the challenge of improving and improving my entry until I'm confident enough that it will win. Not just compete for the win, but actually win the thing. I go into SoTWs thinking I'm going to win it, and I suppose that helps in terms of the quality of my work.

Not anymore though. =\

It depends. If there's a big annual competition, then yeah I suppose you could say I try to give it my all. And I'll treat it as a project where I'll work on it for weeks, not just be done with it in one or two sitting. If I have to scrap an idea or even the whole piece if I think the work produced so far isn't good enough for me, then I'll do so, even if it may frustrate me. You could say I'm quite serious about it, but at the same time...not really. If I win, then I guess I win. If I lose, then I guess I lose. There's nothing to it. I guess part of the competitiveness lies on me and how I treat my work differently from the usual style of mine. When there's a big competition, naturally I'd want to make something different, and that's where I'll put my skills to the test and see if I succeeded by entering a competition.

Now for something like SOTW/AOTW, I don't really get competitive with that, though I still try to make something good in my eyes. Whether I win or lose, it doesn't phase me because I know it all comes down to people's preference and opinion, not something in which people are professionally judging a piece of art. There's no need to get riled up over something so trivial. It's something for fun, so it should be treated as that, without the need to get seriously competitive every time one enters a competition. Be serious and passionate about your work, but don't let wins/losses determine anything.

Oh my god, yes. I am very competitive in almost EVERYTHING I do, but mostly within the creativity areas(RPing, and GFX). Pretty much everything within those whether it's making characters, SOTW, sigs, or any other such things, i always try to outbeat everyone, and when i don't, a small part of me gets so angry, and strives to get better, so that i can beat those who topped me. It's pretty much a game for me: only the best comes out on top. So, to me, the best will be the one who has the most fan-support, talent, and most of all, experience.

But i will say that, I'm not a sore-loser. I always admire those who beat me, and consider them valuable competitors that can push me to my limits and even further. So, while i do hate it when i lose, i can't help but admire those who beat me, and just try to get better, and use different approaches for each work i do.

No, I'm not.

I love the challenge, and I do push myself to make something that I'm proud of in the hopes of it being 'good', but it's not because I want to win. I rather have someone look at it and go "Damn! That looks awesome as well!", it means a lot more to me than winning a competition. They're insanely fun to do however.

I don't think I'm a really competitive person. I never cared about being the best at anything, as long as I'm enjoying it, it's all good with me. It takes the fun out of it if it would be just about winning, I think.

I'm competitive when I do enter a GFX competition, my sporty side sort of takes over when I enter SoTW et al, in that I enter to win. Though if I don't I can't say I've ever been particularly bothered. Lately however I can't say I've been overly bothered with GFX in general which why I haven't entered SoTW for ages, I've been more like Kira in that anything I have produced I'd rather people just think it looks good so lately I've not really cared about any competitive side.

I'm actually not really competitive when I enter any of my work against someone else. I can usually tell my chances of winning, and depending if I know who else is entering, I know what my skill is compared to others on this site. But you can't get better unless you try because you never know what others will think of your work. I've had work that I've hated that people seem to have voted for. I've had work that I thought was great and I was really proud of but no one likes.

I think you have to look at is as a challenge to yourself and not a competition because if you don't think you deserved to win because you knew that others work was better, well there's no satisfaction in that

hahahaha well its nice to think that bit biased voting ¬¬

uhm ach i wouldnt say im super competative. I definately was when i first started out, i was alwyas doing callouts trying to see who i could best etc. Then the big bad mitsuki thrashed me in a res themed challenge :wacky:
Im not so fussed anymore, ive grown to accept my work for what it is and i if i like it then im not bothered as such about winning or losing....however at the end of the day if i enter a competition im gunna try and win it :busta:

I'm pretty competitive when it comes to GFX. I just like the feeling of getting one over the competition and I feel proud of my work when I do.

Plus, what better incentive is there to become more skilled? I had to read loads of tutorials and practice a lot to start winning SOTW on FFF. When I entered a SOTW on another forum I only got like 1 or 2 votes so it's inspired to me to start learning new techniques and make better signatures.
