I am a very big fan of Kamui Shiro, main charcter of X/1999, so when i played Crisis core, i couldn't help but notice this

Now compare their swords... any comments?
 
I hadn't played either of those but the likeness is really remarkable. They have the same features but the ones from the game are minimized. Sorry about my vocabulary Angelus made me think so I have my brain turned on for now.
 
I've just seen a close up of Genesis' handle on his sword and there isn't a huge similarity. The whole shape of it is similar but apart from that I don't see much similarity apart from that Genesis' sword has a wing sticking out either side of it.
As much as I don't like Nomura I think this one is just either a coincidence or those types of swords may generally be like that.
 
The movie was a major let down in comparison to the manga, and even the anime >_<

Although, I'll always know Kamui from all those scenes where he gets molested by Fuuma :wacky:

Anyways, I guess there is a likeness between the swords, but they still are different. I think the handle is something similar to fencing swords...maybe...

I've been playing Persona 3, and some of the "short sword" weapons have the similar styled handles to the "Rapier" style

Some resemblance, right? So it's not far fetched to see similar sword designs in different places ^_^
 
I havn't played CC yet but I've watched some CS's on YouTube and I must admit, those swords look very similar to eachother. They are different in spots but over all they are almost the same. :)
 
they are similar, is all i said... but i thought they copied it or something

oh and i do fencing, the saber isn't like that, the fencing swords don't have a wide enough blade, or a guard like that, they have a circular one, not one of a broadsword, long sword or short sword style guard
 
I doubt they copied the sword - it's more likely a mere coincidence. The guard looks somewhat similar (from far away anyway), yes, but most fancy guards do tend to look similar to each other at some point anyway. Sure the blade looks kinda alike as well, but I've seen a lot of other similar blades in other anime and games too.
 
I see no similarities, except for perhaps the style/type of sword it is. The actual design, however, is nothing alike. Genesis's sword has a complete style of it's own. Typically all swords have a similar hilt, Genesis's being wings, Kamui's being something else. They just share the same style which is a rapier sword. I see no Nomura copying going on here. It's just mere coincidence.
 
Genesis's sword was created to combine with his clothes, just look at the sword and his clothes.
 
it is in fact a rapier for one u can tell by the style of the sword and two the way he fight

the sword itself has a traditional gaurd for a rapier. the blade is slightly larger than a normal rapier blade but i suppose that its because it looks better than a small blade the design of the gaurd is similar to a normal

the way he fights makes it a definite

Genesis' weapon of choice is the Rapier. Though the blade itself resembles more of a Broadsword, the hilt takes the appearance of one. Genesis is able to channel his magic through his blade, possibly due to the Materia placed within it. An interesting thing about his Rapier is the fact that when Genesis does this, strange runic symbols appear upon the blade, only for a brief second before the blade becomes illuminated in, seemingly, fire. This happens 3 times during the course of Crisis Core: Twice during the duel between himself and Sephiroth, and once during his final battle with Zack. Also, the Rapier itself or the Materia within it may have a connection to Banora's Gift of the Goddess, the Red Globe. This is suggested when Genesis holds his blade up towards the Red Globe, and the Materia lights up as the Lifestream Energies gather around him.

So I see no copying really. Rapiers handles are usually fancy like that. It's part of the defining features of the rapier. The only difference is the size of the blade, which resembled a broad sword.

And the other dude from that anime (I'm sorry, I have never heard of that) just happens to also have a rapier with a larger blade. Other than that they are nothing alike, and any likeness is probably a coincidence.
 
as stated above, the style of sword is similar, with them both being rapier like swords, but other than that there are no differences.

The hilt is similar because of the style, but when you compare the blades, they are nothing alike, Genesis' blade is red, whereas the other dude's is the regular metalic silver, and although i haven't seen the movie X, i bet when that dude runs his hand down his blade it doesn't give off a kickass glow and writing probably doesn't become eluminated on the steel (or whatever metal the blade is made from in either sword)
 
You can see some sort of similiarity but its not 100%, as was stated earlier Kamui Shiro's reflects that of a Rapier.
But i can definitley understand how you'd think they were similar.
Maybe Square Enix are playing copy-cats?
 
There are some similarities, but also a good bit of difference. I thought the Genesis sword looked cool with the red blade though.
 
All i really see is how Genesis's blade looks like a lightsaber when it glows.
