Hehehe :awesome:

Blame it on everyone! Everyone seems to have one, so I must have one, haha :wacky:

But yeah, I've made my first signature ever, and I thought it'll be nice to get some C&C for it so I can figure out how to make better signatures in future... And who knows, participate in the SOTW? It's kinda cool to always see all those really beautiful signature works at the bottom of the site, honestly!

So, yeah. In order of creation.

For your first tag, this is actually pretty good--no lies. As far as simplicity goes, this one is good. I love the red and black in this, and the white line that looks liek a beam of light that cuts down the middle is a great add-on. I just reccomend you to look up some tutorials to help you know your program, and just strive to improve. :)

Wow. First signature and you already know how to make the edges round. :wacky: To this day, I still forget and look up a little edge tutorial to get it right, 'cause I don't use it often. :lew:

I like it, and it doesn't look bad at all, specially considering it's your first signature. I also really like the Alternate Reality text. :ryan: Think you did well with two images, and rotating them. If you wanna get better, I suggest looking up some tutorials, and if you don't like those (trust me, I'm one of those people) just practice, practice, practice. Keep making a lot, so you get the hang of things. :ryan:

Good luck!

Here comes my second signature. I followed a tutorial rather strictly for this one... Though the result wasn't exactly as planned...

I was hunting for some nice renders, until I just gave up and settled for a character in one of my role plays. Lol. Anyway, some critique would be appreciated!

EDIT:

For one, now that I look at it again... I realize the color scheme doesn't actually match the armor well..

Opinions?

A change in color scheme, and size. Was running through what I recollected of the tutorial. I suppose I can effectively say that this 'Fire Effects' technique is pretty much learned. That, and I've no doubt gained a fair bit of experience when it comes to using numerous layers while working on Photoshop.

The whole time, I had just been working with the mindset of the lesser layers there are, the better - which apparently isn't completely true.

I'm thinking this one looks a lot better than the one before...

Though I'll still need to learn how to use some real backgrounds, rather than just some simple coloration.

Are you sure you are new at this :wacky: becaue this sig is really good for your first ever one XD much better than my first ones XD

the colours are really work really well with the Sig and I love the way you spilt the sig into two halves.. and rounded edges... even I can't do that yet.. and you did that on your first sig :wacky:

the second one really kool as well XD the third one needed to be smaller.... but apart from that you are doing an great job keep it up :D

just keep at it :)

Hehe, and I am!

I'm on a roll recently. This one's possibly the best I have amongst all of them.

That, and I really am new at signature making when making that first signature. I took a lot of reference from how many nice signatures around the site were made, and then came up with something.

This, I also did with this latest one.

that background :D soooo amazing and it goes really well with the render..... the text is really cool as well :awesome:

the only thing I can say is that you can really see the render :) try sharpening the render :) it may help with seeing the render a bit better XD

apart from that great work... keep it up XD

EDIT: oh also border.. i'm still learning this but a border always rounds off a sig really nicely :)

Yep. There was a border before this, but for some reason, whenever it showed up here, it's an incomplete sort, like a streak of blue at the end of the border, as if the border did not cover the full length. I'll put up the one with borders in this post later.

Kinda gave the entire thing a movie-like feel - if on the top and bottom

I forgot to add the borders, but I did try to sharpen the image... The extent of which appears to be fairly limited though >.>

EDIT: Added borders.

EDIT2: Lol. It can't be seen in this forum skin of mine -Dark II.

Decided to try something smaller, about the size of many signatures around here - including the ones belonging to Pandora and Kyoshiro (of Ravness, that is, below).

I wasn't sure how to make the text look nicer... >.> Using other colours made it stand out too much, and kinda goes against the moderately black and white theme I had in mind.

Oh well. Good effort, I guess. Getting the hang of it now.

I think it's your best one so far. :) The stock and background compliment each other well and the tag does look good IMO.
I think the text looks out of place though. It clashes, is in a odd position and is a bit big. Kira has a text tutorial that will really help you with all aspects of using text on a signature.
Remember, not adding text is an option that loads of people overlook. Not every tag needs a label saying what the character is or a quote etc.

Keep it up. :)

Thanks for the critique!

I'll go search for that tutorial. I was kind of worried that the image may be too plain without the image - but I'll definitely take note of that.

... :lew: Didn't think someone would remember/use the tut to be honest. So, thanks Ewan.

Also, here's the link to the tut. http://finalfantasyforums.net/showthread.php?t=47021

It's a very basic explaining, and not an actual follow step by step tutorial. That's hard to do with text seeing ever tag is different, but it's a basic idea about what works. =) Hope you have fun.

Also, like Ewan said, not all tags need text. :D Good luck!

Here's my next piece. Originally wanted someone to create a set for me with this theme, but I ended up doing it myself.

Recently, in school, one of my modules required us to each make a poster on the subject of youth mental health disorders. Honestly, I didn't do it as well as I did, but the lessons leading up to that was the basic run-through of Photoshop, which was really nice...

... If not for the fact all the teacher taught were things I already knew, or would almost never use in signature making... I'll try it some day though. But the one useful thing he taught that I already knew was rendering.

Which was how I did this image. The theme was on the Monarch Programming, which apparently is some sort of mind control program. Apparently, some people claim that Paramore's 'Brick by Boring Brick' is about this. I don't know, but the scenery in their music video inspired this idea.

Anyway, Monarch Programming attempts to control the mind by pushing the subject into a 'vulnerable' state, which apparently is best seen when a subject starts to fantasize.... Or something. I can't recall the exact explanation at the moment. Google is your best friend.

Either way, the main method is torture, and leading the victim to escape into his own exaggerated fantasy to cope with the trauma of the torture. After that text case before this signature, I figured it's best I leave text out this time. Wasn't sure where I could put it anyway.

Yep, just a side note, I had to render that gate thing, that butterfly (which is my avatar at the moment), and that floating castle. Quite proud of the results, really. Probably good enough to put on PlanetRender! :D Hehe

And my next. This one is more a set than my previous. The focus is on the female protagonist from Persona 3. The game itself did a great job at simulating the life of an average student. I kinda identified with the character enough to be somewhat attached... So the ending of the game was kinda shocking.

Like Crisis Core. Lol. I didn't like the ending, but whatever.

I had to dedicate a piece of work specifically for the character.

MinakoAvatar.png

I think it's a fanart by someone. The original picture featured her with Akihiko. I managed to crop her out and mix in with a background for what I hope is a sad, but happy feel... I'm not making sense, am I?

Trying my hand at Typography next. Was planning to do a name change, but I guess I didn't have anything in mind yet. May as well stick to this again.

So here's the avatar... Which was rather haphazard, I admit.

ExperimentalAvatar.png

In what I perceived to be the spirit of typography, I tried to cram as many words into the 100x100 space available. It wasn't possible to put 'Monarch' in one line, though, so I opted to rotate 'M' and leave the remaining letters below it.

It should be readable... I think, even though the 'M' now looks like '3'. Threw in some random phrases as well.... I don't really know why, lol.

TypographyExperiment.png

This one is probably a better attempt at typography than the other. The quote itself is by an anonymous person.

Although it looks fine to me, I think it still lacks a bit of order. Not sure about that though. It looks nice, and I guess that's about what I'm going for.
