I wish Freya was in more FMVs in IX, she was one of my favorite characters in the game, probably third favorite. I wish they went more in depth with her character.
Does anybody else have the same thoughts as me on this?

I liked freyas character, it waas quite sad when she realises her love (sir fratley) has no idea who she is when they meet.

one thing that annoyed me, i just couldnt make out her face on her picture. Is that her mouth below her eye? and is that her right or left eye?

Freya is an interesting character. She had a lot of potential but I think they really underestimated how popular she'd be with the fans. Same with Amarant. Her look was very unique. I can't honestly say I liked the way her face looked... but her general build and clothes were very cool. She was a good fighter and had a decent plot... but again, I'm not sure why they didn't spend more time on it.

I have to admit that I thought Freya was a guy for the main portion of the game. I mean, is it bad that I didn't pick up on it when she got on her knees for Sir Fratley?

Anyway, I love Freya. Although she's somewhat minor in the game, you pick up on the fact she's a good-hearted character right from the start when her and Zidane recognize each other at the pub. They embrace, catch up, and it's a kinda nice scene to get introduced to Freya.

Throughout the game though, the only real past you see of Freya is her time with Fratley after he'd gone away; not before he left. They run into each other somehow, she recognizes him but he has no idea who she is. Quite sad really. I mean you look at other games where someone loses a loved one like in FFVI with Locke and Rachel, or Cyan loses his family, but this is a whole different ball-game. Freya still has her man alive, but he doesn't remember who she is, or why he is suppose to love her. That's the real tragedy.

I would have liked to seen how they met for the first time though...

I agree that it was a shame she didn't get more airtime. Freya was so good because she was a very mature and intelligent character. She had her flaws and her problems, but it wasn't all the angsty teenaged crap that most female characters have these days. She protrayed pose, elegance and loyalty and I was always sad that she got shoved aside for the what I thought the more ridiculous parts of the plot.

Now that you mention her maturity and poise, I do now think about it that Freya was the oldest female in your party (discluding whatever the heck Quina is and however old that thing is).

She probably was a early 20's sort of character (she may have a correct age, but I don't know it off hand), and it seems like they were more ready for marriage than just a crush that happened one summer a few years back. It's a relationship that they had both put years and hardships into in order to mold what was probably going to be a very stable relationship.

Also, as Dragonsoul mentioned loyalty, Freya never gave up hope that she would see Sir Fratley again. Each day she seemed to just wait for him to come over the hills and into sight so she could run up and embrace him. Quite a shame she was sorely let down in the end. I bet she was quite relieved he was alive though.

Freya is alright I liked the city that always rains. FFIX was good and is still good I cant wait until FFXIV comes out.

Mod Edit

Please put abit more thought in your post, say what you think of Freya - it is not a topic about IX as a whole or FFXIV.....

Freya was definitely my favorite character in FFIX. She had such a tragic story, and aside from her personality traits, she was great to use in battle. She was a lot stronger than Zidane in my game, discluding his trance form. xP

I really enjoyed when the focus was on her in Burmecia/Cleyra. First she sees her whole city dead, and then the few survivors get blasted by the black mages. To top it all off, Fratley comes back and doesn't even remember her. D;

At least they cleared it up at the end of the game, though. <3

troof

Still though, you've got to love the FMV near the end where you see them starting fresh. You don't know if he remembers her but you see them together twice and it really drives home their happiness. Once rebuilding Burmecia and the other when Zidane comes home. I guess it goes to show true love can survive through any loss.

Yes I think Freya (or freija in the spanish version i have) is one of the best characters in the FFIX cast, because she´s the spear user in this game (I love spear-users!!! XD) and she´s the only always serious female character along with beatrix (sadly not a permant character).

And she´s dressed up in RED!!! It kicks ass!!!

I love Freya! she is probably in my top 3 characters of this game(alongside Vivi and Beatrix) she was such a strong determined character and her tragic story with Flatey make you love her even more.

Considering i didn't use her enough in the party.. I didn't really favour her much as a character.

There should be more stories about her though. I thought just knowing she's a Dragon Knight wandering around for her lover wasn't much interesting. Some knowledge of what she went through to find her lover would be better.

I really liked Freya right as soon as she joins the party. She seemed to be a well thought out character, and I'm a sucker for Dragoons. Ever since FF4 I just love the Jump command, and Freya has the ULTIMATE Jump command when she Trances. Being in orbit and hucking spears down at yer enemies is just totally freaking awesome. I remember the first time I played through FF9 I used her alot and on more than one occasion was saved by her trance, the rest of the party was dead and she was in the sky hurling spears at the boss. She was a great character and prolly deserved more time than she got.

Oh man, preaching to the choir here. Freya was by far my favorite character in the game, and is easily in my top 3 characters of any FF game ever.

(I'm apparently a minority)

But she was just so cool and unique.

She had this personality about her that was deeper and different than most. And her quest to find a missing lover was classic, yet new in her search for inner truth.

Despite that, she was a great fighter as well. Good skills, awesome weapons, strength, etc. etc.

I would've loved more Freya time. Even a Freya spin-off would become something of a guilty pleasure for me.

But alas, I digress.
