After my previous faff (not having a memory stick) I managed to start and play a bit of Crisis Core last night, and i thought I'd just give some first impressions of it. (didn't see another thread like this so thought i'd start one!)

You do seem to get thrown into it rather quickly, but I've played a lot of FF so it didn't take that much getting used to. The battle system seems to be a bit Kingdom of hearts-ish but seems to play well. The conflict screen that flashed up is a bit annoying, but is the equivalent of other "random battles" in other FF's.

Zack seems a bit of a moron, but I'll see how he turns out. The leveling seems to be a bit random, and I'm still not sure how the slots work on the DMV thingy. sometimes I think I'm stopping it, and other times not! :gonk:

Anyway done the first Wutai story mission, and maybe about 15 other missions before heading off for Genisis' home town with Tseng.

So far so good then! :P

The levelling IS random...it's abit gay tbh, you could level up 6 times in one level, then not at all for ages

Zack's a lovable moron :monster:

I quite liked the battle system,, doesn't take all that long to get used to

Wait til you try the materia fusion for the first time, baffled the socks off me, I figure it out myself in the end, the guid STILL doesn't make sense. Word of warning though, if you decide to have an experiment with it, save your game first otherwise you might end up with something you dont want :gonk:

The DMW is entirely random and you have no control over it. Which is a shame really, because it was a good idea and the random aspect of it ruined it.

And you'll soon get sick of the battles, since they never change at all.

There's already a thread here which says something like "he starts out immature but...." So i assumed he'll grow on me!

And the leveling of materia? how does that work? do you have to have two numbers and the numbers correspond to the no. you have it equiped?!

Also - and squat, squat, squat... It's not the same if it isn't to win a wig to dress in drag :awesome:

Zack is the lovable moron, best put. To be honest I didn't quite like him until about mid way through the game. Of course he had the normal FF protagonist main character theme behind him, being over zealous and acting like a teen who just wanted to be soldier first class. When I saw Genesis I was like.. hmm alright I can take a man in pink.. as long as he can back himself up. Sephiroth a hero? That was very new to me.. Angeal was definitely my favorite right off the bat. He sort of modeled my structure: follow rules, do your duty, and embrace your dreams type stuff.

So off the bat you are sucked into constant action with an automated leveling scheme. I kind of wish I could have controlled it a little bit. Also the exp? I know there was a hidden leveling system, but still, I wish I could have played that out.

First impression.. all the women are hot in their own way. Aerith with her new spanking look. Tifa with her young.. teenage look, and Cissnei of course who was a new addition to the Turks.

First look at the materia... pretty decent. I can't complain much, it was a hack and slash not an rpg entirely, so it did pretty well.

i cant rememebr how the materia works now...its random, and theres the numbers involved, but its nothing to do with the amount you equip, just the DMW numbers, its like, if you get a pair of 6's the materia in the 6th slot will level up...or maybe it's 3...... Wait I think you need 3. Pairs of numbers affect your stats I think, liek a pair of 1's or 7's will grant you temporarily invulnerability.... unless its the other way round.... its been a while :gonk:

And Im well waffling and probably causing more confusion than Im solving

Either way it's all random and you will pick it up as you go along, I knew what did what, and prayed for certain numbers to come up, but now my memory is fuzzy at best

Yes you are right. If you get a pair of the same number then the materia that is in that number will level up by 1 level. If you get three of a kind number (3 of the same number) then the materia will level up by 2 levels. For example if you get 2,5,5 then the 5th materia will level up by 1 level. If you get 222 then the 2nd materia will level up by 2 levels.

Thought so, cos my cure is mastered and that was during one mission! hit ?44 and then 444. I think.

Yeah I agree you Shu, it's good getting a decent amount of materia early doors, and the chance to get quite a bit with the side missions, so I have quite a healthy stock now! But by that vein I'm guessing that the materia is more abundant than it was in say VII? espeically with the fusing malarky which I'm yet to experience but read a little about it.

I'm sure it'll all become clear eventually!

So getting a DMV is random, but once the slots are up, you can stop the middle one on the face you want, can't you?

arse.

There's me thinkin when i missed i wasn't pressing hard enough.

Is it affected by what materia you equip? I think perhaps I clutching at straws to try and make some sort of sense which there appears not to be! The randomness might get annoying...

The leveling isn't 100% random. There is hidden exp. You only have a chance to level after reaching enough hp and geting 777 is 1 in 35 chance ( I think ) once you reach the xp

Yeah, you still get exp, and you can't level without it, but its a waste of time anyway, becuase you could have 10 times the required exp and STILL not level up if you are having a bad run of luck with the DMW

You can also affect what DMW sequences come up if you equip certain materia, like, if you need Sephiroths for that GAY magic pot later on, equip his corresponding materia and you will have more a chance of that particular attack showing up.....although, the odds are still slim, it took me an AGE to get it to happen on that idiot magic pot ¬¬

Its also good for completing the DMW gallery if you are only missing like, 1 or 2 images (most likely Clouds grr) I literally just went on that fight 1000 (or however many) soldiers mission when i was too high levelled to die, left my PSP too it, went to sleep and had the image when id woken up...i still dont know what it was, but doing it the manual way just WASNT happening
