Nintendo Fire Emblem: Awakening

If you're having trouble try going on the defensive, Mits. Assuming there is no Turn Limit on that chapter don't be afraid to take it slow. Try making a defensive block. Use the strongest defensive units you have to make a wall to prevent the enemy from getting in and attacking directly. Behind them you can use your units who can attack indrectly or priest/cleric to heal anyone on the frontlines. Just watch out for enemies who can attack indirectly though.

Also besides who you can marry is there any difference between having a male/female avatar?

Yeah, I finally went defense once I reached the first upper hill area. (Actually well, I have been doing defense for that map and I was still getting pummeled. xD) The map was a bit tricky to navigate, you can only send 1-2 units at a time (hence why I finally had to use Frederick, he took a lot of hits), plus trying to rescue the two other characters on the side map, it was a bit intense. But anyway, had to make sure that I kept a character behind since one enemy kept trying to flank my weaker characters. I'm now doing one of those Challenger maps (first one that appeared, and what do you know, same map as Chapter 5) and they're actually a lot harder than the Story maps. >.> I'm gonna see if I can beat that tonight before venturing on to Chapter 6.

One thing I also find useful, is trying to keep an eye out for those who are about to level up. I'll usually save before then (though I have to be careful with saving too often too), and see how they level up. If there's only 1-3 stats boost, then I'll restart. Sometimes I'll need to restart a few times before I see better improvements when leveling up. I know, I'm tedious like that. Reaching Level 20 doesn't take too long, so I might as well reap all those +1 stats as best as possible.

Few class restrictions and skills when it comes to passing on skills to your Avatar's children (which you can also recruit later). But there isn't really a big difference from what I read. Obviously there's many different ways to approach this whole setup. I'd probably avoid reading too much about it because you're bound to come across some spoilers (like I already did), but from what I can tell you, try to pair up your characters (not just your Avatar) so that when they do marry, they can produce a child and that child can have different growth rates / inherit skills -- depending on who they marry. For instance,
if Lissa marries Frederick, their child can become Cavalier (Promotes to Paladin or Great Knight), Knight (Promotes to Great Knight or General), or Wyvern Rider (Promotes to Wyvern Lord or Griffon Rider). If she marries other characters, they'll have a different class, depending on the father.

So you do have to do some careful matchmaking with your units. There's one other major spoiler for picking a male/female avatar, but I won't say it here. =P

Oh so they let you actually save at anytime and not quick-save? Sweet. That's a good way of getting some good stats on your characters, Mits. I don't have to worry about my characters getting RNG screwed as much. I see they decided to bring back quite a few features back from the older games. How does the marriage system work? Get two characters of opposite gender to Support each other and when it maxes out they get married? Or can you manually just choose who you want to get married?

Al - When you max out two characters Support Level to "S," they can get married. :3 And there's two save options - 1) regular "Save" on the field map (and sometimes between chapters), as well as 2) "Quick Save" (I think?) during battles.

And uhh...

Is Lissa marrying Frederick even legal?? xD That just seems so wrong, no matter how much older she would become. -__-;

I want to play this game so badly but I have about 20-30 games that I haven't completed yet in my gaming box. Darn it.

How long to game's stay in stock before they become harder to get ?

Depends on where you live I'd say. If you live in the US pretty difficult currently. Though you may have better luck if you live in a smaller area. More copies may be made later however.(hopefully) If you live outside of the US then unless you can find a good deal from someone online I'd just wait until it comes out in your region. With some luck they'll actually make enough copies for everyone to have on release day then.

Are supports limited to a max of 5 like in the previous games?

Terramorphous - No supports limit. You can have as many supports as you want, up to A rank. Only one support for S rank (which is when the characters get married). Did your copy arrive yet?

I'm currently on Chapter 12 now. Did so much grinding over the week. Most of the characters are now promoted.

For those that got the DLC maps, there's two villages (doors will be open) that will give you misc. items. This is how I mostly earned Gold.

Alright so that means I can have as many supports as possible. Awesome! My copy did come in thankfully. Last Tuesday actually. I'm on chapter 8 I believe and I probably would be farther than that if a certain side mission didn't have me stuck there for a few days. >_> (Paralogue 2)

As for my setup thus far it's pretty much the same thus far except for Kellam and Prince Marth. For now I've made a rule for myself that I would not use any DLC characters for my first playthrough. As for Kellam I've never really cared for Knights much though with some exceptions. They're too slow and have trouble keeping up. Cavaliers with decent stats tend to turn out to be good tanks, have much higher speed, and more movement. I also have Avatar as a Mage more than a physical attacker.

Yeah I don't see the point of DLC characters. I stopped using Marth after acquiring the DLC maps. I'm practically breezing through the gameplay now, even at Hard Mode. Grinding was necessary to unlock some skills for certain classes, but it did make the game too easy. Maybe after Chapter 13, things might get back to bumpy road. I'd like to do Expert mode on my next playthrough, playing as a female avatar.

@pokemanmdj Aw, I hope you get a copy soon! I know the Targets around here still don't carry them. The one at my store did for less than 24 hours (I was lucky enough to grab one) and since then the stock has been 0.

My avatar ended up with Cordelia, though I'm curious...it probably should've been Lucina. She's an interesting one.

You guys probably already saw this, but just in case, here's some info on Marriage and Children: http://www.ign.com/wikis/fire-emblem-awakening/Marriage_and_Children

Still need Cherche to marry Gaius, (which will complete this whole marriage deal) and then I'm moving on to Chapter 13.

I finished this game not too long after I got it (a week or two).
While some parts were lackluster, others shined very bright. It almost felt like an anniversary game. It took the elements of pretty much EVERY Fire Emblem and smashed it into one game which brought SO much nostalgic feelings to me. I enjoyed it and ANY Fire Emblem veteran or newcomer should enjoy this game as well.

Ohh, so Level 20 is definitely the max, huh? My character reached level 20, but I thought that maybe it was limited just for that arc of the storyline. Like the max would increase after a certain point in the story or something. So I guess my character is ready to be upgraded then, hehe~ I upgraded Lissa when she was about level 12-13, so I guess I missed out a bit on those stat bonuses... Oh well. :p Better luck next time!

Unlike other games in the series...
You can level up an unlimited amount of times and is not restricted to doing only up to 39 times.

The "Bonus Items" feature seems pretty cool. No strings attached or anything. I got a new weapon from it for free.

*giggle*
It's funny isn't it to find them on gold tiles finding foreign weapons that are from other games in the series.

I think I'm going to start another save file on Hard/Classic Mode 'cause I wanna see how difficult it is. It sounds very frustrating, especially if you want to keep your whole arsenal of characters, which is something I'd want to do as well. xD

It's not much different than the Normal Mode. If you do Lunatic from a different game in the series...doing Hard in this game will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

*laughs*

It doesn't really matter if their stat gains derp in this game. They can level up an unlimited amount of times and can class change unlimitedly. That is how that they learn skills that are from other classes. Which this is a must for the DLC maps and Streetpass.

Man, I really want to get my hands on a coy of this game. It's just that everywhere I go, it's sold out. Even the EBGames/GameStop I work at is constantly sold out. We might get more in next week, so...

I'm really excited to play the game- I hear it's amazing, and it looks pretty good from what I've seen.

It's a good sign.
That shows that we will get more of these games ported to our area.

That's why I don't really like to grind unless to get children to inherit skills that they normally cannot obtain on their own.

Like giving all men Galeforce.
lol
Galeforce is the utmost overrated skill in the game. It's a female only skill that breaks the game!

Females should get Axefaire or Counter. Both which are male only skills. I would say Despoil too, but it is totally useless if you have "The Golden Gaffe" DLC episode.

It IS the anniversary game of the series. *chuckle*
Many think that this will be the last game to be created in the series because of this.
