FFXIV-Screens_07-13-10.jpg

The PC beta for Final Fantasy XIV has begun only just recently and the first screenshots of the closed test are already coming out. A good half of today’s shots are of the character customization and the other of various other parts of the game – field, etc.

The game’s out for PC on September 30, but you can get it early if you purchase the collector’s edition on September 22. The PS3 version is out March 2011.

Check out the screenshots at the gallery.

I have a friend who's in beta testing for it.

Actually, less of a friend and more of a whore. :monster:

ON TOPIC: The new customization abilities are a far cry from XI's 'customizable' characters. They really took a huge leap in this game which is comforting. Of course half of your character might get covered by armour an shit anyway...

Hmmm, pretty cool video =] I must say, the customization looks frickin' awesome. I mean, I didn't watch the whole thing but still I get the gist of it. I never played XI but from what i've seen XIV looks like it'll be an awesome online FF game :ryan:

Christ, the dude who posted up that vid has a PC with a 2 terabyte hard drive. And that's just to run it moderately smooth. I really want XIV though, I mean I've never played IX, but this is just amazing. I'm a graphic whore so any sleek customization screen, pristine looking CGI cutscenes, or really nicely 3d rendered models will make me salivate. A lot. This is beautiful. Square Enix really did put a lot of thought into this and it shows--there's quiet a lot of options to choose from in terms of hair color, skin tone, height, and weight (even if the latter two offer only 4 options, it's the variations of the options that count; i.e.: shortest to tallest, etc.).

Yeah, FFXIV is quite heavily demanding even in its beta stage. I don't think a bigger HDD will make much difference but you need at least a top end video card and a fair bit of RAM just to even run the game, I think it's something Square-Enix need to sort out come the final release so they don't narrow the market down too much. Problem being...it could go the other way since there will be major improvements between the beta and final release. :wacky:

That's a rather extensive range of customisation there, which is good because then each player will be able to have a unique character in terms of appearances of their own. However as Channy said, I doubt you'll really pay that much attention to this aspect once you pile up armour and weaponry on your character while questing.

I think we can gather by now that playing FFXIV on a PC (beta or not) will be fairly demanding in terms of specs. Not everyone will have a machine capable of it, especially mine. And with the Xbox 360 out of the picture, I can see the PS3 being the most popular choice here, unless other factors come into play.

September 2010 ?! If so, that's A LOT earlier than I expected. Don't trust Sqeenix to release anything below a bazillion years after the last installmet these days :P

March 2011 for the PS3 version, huh? So it looks like this will be out before VersusXIII?

Certainly sounds like it . . . http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/960613-final-fantasy-xiv-online/50302645

Apparently people were already a tad concerned about the sheer power this game would have to take. A simple Pentium IV processor would be out of the question. If anyone's curious as to what the exact specs are, here's a link that pretty much confirms that: http://www.gamepro.com/article/news...ms-final-fantasy-xiv-release-date-but-not-3d/

I have an AMD Sempron Processor SI-42 and 3GB of RAM plus 250GB of HD on my lil' Toshiba laptop. And then to add to that I have an ATI Radeon 3100 graphics card . . . I'm just laying out my specs in comparison to the recommended ones as an example. So . . . technically according to this article (it's probably vamped up since then though, I wouldn't be surprised.) I'd be somewhat fine running this game with my laptop's specs.

Ooh June 30th of this year, so that article's fairly fresh. Whether the developmental team have modified the systems for FFXIV so that these specs have become obsolete, I don't know. But so far it shouldn't be THAT cringeworthy at least not for me. :P

Scratch that my processor would be sluggish though so it would f up on certain frame rates. Um that's the only thing, if I had Athlon then I'd be set. What about everyone else?
