Square Enix will be celebrating the launch of the latest Final Fantasy game at one of its favorite launch event spaces. The company announced today plans for an official Final Fantasy XIII countdown event to be held at the famous Tsutaya retailer in Shibuya.

The event will be held early morning on December 17. The first 100 people who arrive and purchase a copy of the long awaited PS3 RPG will be let into the shop's first floor starting at 6:15. Joining them for the countdown festivities will be Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada, FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, and talents Maomi Yuki, Ai Takahashi (of Morning Musume fame) and Kazuhiro Ozawa.

In addition to a countdown leading up to the start of sales, the event will also see a mini live session, with songstress Sayuri Sugawara performing the FFXIII theme song "Kimi ga Iru Kara."

While only 100 will be let into the shop for the festivities, the first 300 to purchase the game at this particular Tsutaya will get a free FFXIII-themed Elixir beverage.

Square Enix often uses the Shibuya Tsutaya outlet for official countdown events. Dragon Quest IX and past Final Fantasy games saw similar events, complete with major guest appearances.

That's really amazing! I bet it's going to be really hard to be one of those first 100 in Japan though, what with it's extreme popularity. Especially if they know that they'll be able to attend that if they're one of the first.

I wish I were in Japan more and more with these announcements. They're making it so fun for the fans.

Lucky Japanese, they've got Sayuri Sugawara singing her song for them. Too bad they can't do this for the NA/EU releases (not that they would anyway) because of their choice of song.

Wow that's awesome!

Sometimes I wish I lived in Japan just because of those kinds of events.

There's like nothing here except for Soundwave concerts, The Big Day out and such that they have every year. =(

I'd like to try one of those elixers for free to see if it's worth it or not. XD

The thought of such a huge occasion like that sounds utterly amazing if you're there. I would love to be in one of these events. It makes the Japanese people's lives much more exciting than mine. I do wish I can be there to experience it- but my limited Japanese knowledge and the murderous amounts of people may put me off. :gonk:

I wonder if Leona Lewis will do what her counterpart is doing and decide to perform in one of the western FFXIII releases. I would love to meet her, because at the end of the day, no matter how controversial the choice of song is for FFXIII in the west, Leona is still the best thing to have come out of the X-Factor and she is an amazing singer.

Taylor read my mind, it'd be awesome to have a launch party for Final Fantasy 13, and (although it doesn't need it) those big shopping promotions with the cut-outs and trailers running on TV, just for once at least. Hell, even a first-come first-serve entry to something FF related would be nice, but until gaming is an accepted media we'll have to wait before we get hyped as a country.

Yes, it would be extremely nice to have an opening event or something like this in North America/Europe, but not with Leona Lewis. Her coming and singing her song for a game that she didn't even write it for is just plain ridiculous. Square Enix doesn't have anything to do with that song beside the fact that she let them put it in the game. It would be like her having a concert for herself, but with one song.

It would overshadow Square Enix's CEO, producer, etc. being there, because everyone would be so damned excited to see their favorite artist, they wouldn't have come for the game, they'd be more focused on Leona.

It just makes me crazy.

Wow! I'm SO glad that's all happening HERE in AMERICA!!! Not. We probably won't even get a commercial. *whimpers*

Im so goin there! Yeah right in my DREAMS! Anyway this would be so nice too go to but Ill just have one of my Japanese Xbox live friends to tell me all about it :awesome: Im gonna go live in Japan one day I swear IT!

I'm curious to know where they're getting all the money to do this :wacky: It was only a year or so ago they'd lost millions and the profits fell even more because of the purchase of Edios and even then they haven't had a major release really since FFXII other than minor spinoffs and remakes which wouldn't make a huge amount. The only thing I can think of is that when the signed for Sayuri to create and sing the theme tune that also covered the cost of promotional appeareances such as this one :hmmm:
