I've been trying to get my head round the numbering system (ie the titles) of the games. Could someone tell me if i've got this right?

FFI, only originally released in Japan.
FFII, only originally released in Japan.
FFIII, originally released in the US/UK as FFI.
FFIV, originally released in the US/UK as FFII.
FFV, only originally released in Japan.
FFVI, originally released in US/UK as FFIII.

FFVII, released in US/UK as FFVII.
Ditto all games from the on. Most newer US/UK versions went back to original japanese name (eg FFII back to FFIV).

Games released in the US/UK in order:
FFIII, FFIV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX etc (in their original japanese names/numbers)

*FFI and FFII (the versions never originally released here) were later released as FFI & FFII in a 2 in 1 collection.

I'm only 17 and wasn't around (or old enough) and so don't own enough originals or remember them to know whats what.

Is this all correct?

FFI was released in NA as FFI. FFIII was only released in Japan originally (and has only recently been available to us legally through the DS version). The rest is right though.

Also, anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that FFIV and FFVI were only released in North America as 2 and 3. I think they were later released to the rest of the world as remakes with thier correct numbers.

FFI = FFI
FFII
FFIII
FFIV = FFII
FFV
FFVI = FFIII
FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
FFX
FFXI
FFXII

SaShman has it. FFI was released in the US. But then FFII, III and V were not released outside of Japan until their respected ports to the Playstation (except for III ofcourse which came in the form of a DS remake). To keep continuinity for the US market they altered the numbering for IV and VI to make it seem they were the second and third instalments of the seires. FFVII was the first FF game to be released world-wide simutaniously (well at least a few months after the Jap release) so the numbering from then on became the same as the Japs instead of becoming FFIV.
