So, real tough question here. I bought Final Fantasy Chronicles (for PS) a few weeks ago, and I'm finally ready to knock out those two games. But I'm not sure which to play first. Just a short history on the last few games I've played...I just got done playing FFI and FFII in that order (in the FFOrigins Pack for PS). I am currently playing Assassin's Creed for Xbox and expect to finish it in the next day or so. So...which first? Chrono Trigger or FFIV? Thoughts?

CLONE YOURSELF AND PLAY THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME :mokken:

Really, they are both really amazing :x3: Probably two of my favorite games, it is a really hard decision. I guess it depends on whether you want to play any more FFs right afterward--if you play Chrono Trigger right now, it is a very standalone game; it doesn't feel like you need to play any other games in the series afterwards. And then you could play FFIV, and then seamlessly go from the battle system style of it right into another something like FFVI and it would feel very natural, since the battle system is almost exactly the same; I know for me when going from IV to VI, I always find I don't even have to think about it. However, the battle system in Chrono is somewhat different :hmmm:

Hope that helps.. or at least makes any sense :hmmm:

I suggest playing FF first before the Chrono Trigger. The Chrono series is very different/separate from the FFs we know and love. But its a great adventure either way

Interesting...so it seems like it depends on what style of game i want to play first. whether i want to take a longer break from the fighting style of FF or not....hmmm....interesting

Personally I would say just flip a coin and go by that. Both are similar in the sense that both are great, both will probably take the same amount of time to finish, and both suffer from unbearably long load times on the PS1 version. Although I think CT has a shorter main story but has more sidequests than FFIV. If I had to choose though I'd say go for FFIV. If you're a perfectionist, CT will take a long time to finish if you want to get all of the endings unlocked. FFIV is just one ending so it is best to knock that out first.

I would say, play which ever you want. They are both amazing games. Chrono Trigger is my favorite RPG of all time.

Question is, are you eager to play another FF game? If so, play IV first. Do you want to play FF III before IV? (Unnecessary, but if you have a desire to play all the FF games in order then play CT first, get a hold of FFIII, play that then FFIV)

But both are very great games :)

No chance that I'll be getting FFIII anytime soon, Rydia. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm just not that partial to handheld gaming. Thanks for the tip about sidequests and endings, Vircon. I am most definitely a perfectionist, and will not stop until I have the 100% complete file. That being said, I'm leaning towards FFIV and then hitting Chrono Trigger.

FFIII is very over-rated. It's a crappy version of FFV. As for FFIV and CT, I'd go for FF if you haven't played one in a while. If you have, CT is refreshing bc it gives you something a little different. I dunno, you decide.

Chrono Trigger has a better storyline and more interesting environments, FF IV has a better battle system and probably will feel more familiar with FF fans. If you've already played other classic FF games then you should go with CT as it will give you a wider range of experience with historically relevant games.

HOLD THE PHONE. I just tried putting in my FFIV disc from the FFChronicles pack and it wouldn't work in my PS2?! Disc Read Error?! This every happen to anyone? Does it only work on PS1?

No, it's gotta be the disc bc mine worked on PS2.
If it doesn't work..
Emu time!!

WTF mate? it totally worked on my PS1 though....the PS2 started making weird sounds...like the disc wouldn't spin properly in the PS2 tray. Whatever. I guess I'll just play it on the PS1.

My PS2 stopped playing PS1 games like that. It started off just being sometimes with some games. It would give me the "disk read error" message and I would just open the tray and restart the system and it would work, but it eventually it stopped playing them altogether, but it played the PS2 games just fine. So... it may be the console. You may want to try some other PS1 disks and see how it takes it.

I do want to say, that particular port of Chrono Trigger isn't the greatest. I remember there being pretty painful loadtimes transitioning from game to menus and back, so you may want to play a different version if you can. I don't think there was anything wrong with the IV port, however.
