Final Fantasy I: The Warriors of Light RP

Drake, after seeing Blaise's display had to clear his throat to avoid laughing, trying his best to remove a grin that was firmly planted on his lips he turned to the plains "Alright, lets go. If we grow tired we stop and rest. I'd sooner get caught by an enemy while we have strength than get picked off by fatigue" Drake began to lead the party on from Cornelia, walking through the forest that surrounded the nearby area and headed due north to the path leading to the Chaos Shrine. It was in the open hat he heard the sound of approaching footsteps, grabbing his sword he caught the presence of 3 Goblins, turning to face them he drew his sword "Everyone, prepare yourselves for battle!"

OOC: Shock, horror! No boring speech! Anyway, this is the first battle, naturally you can godmod the goblins, read the discussion thread for details.

(OOC: I didn't know if these goblins were armed so I just sorta winged it...)

"Huh?!" gasped Wylfred as the Goblins came charging towards the group. "Hehe! About time we got some excitement!"

Although it took a moment to find it, Wyl drew his rapier from his cluttered bag. "Aha!" He shouted in a heroic pose as one of the three Goblins came quickly towards him!. "Gah!"

The goblin charging at him had almost struck him before he had learned to evade. Luckily he had gotten out of the way just in time. "Hm...these guys arent nice..." muttered Wyl as he then lunged forward rapier in hand and determination in play.

He had stabbed the goblin right in the chest, just after he himself had gotten hit with the creatures club. Though he was a little bruised he could still stand. "Well I guess the rest is up to you guys." said Wyl to the others as he sat down to rest...

Mariella squeaked in fright as the goblins suddenly appeared. Her first thought was to charge forwards and thwack one of the goblins right over the noggin with her oversized hammer. She thought better of that, however, and stood back for a moment as Thief-boy leapt into the fray. Her eyes rolled slightly as the thief took a blow and had to seat himself to recover after stabbing the offending goblin.

"And here was me hoping you guys would have a bit more stamina."

She held out her hand, a soft green light emanating from beneath the folds of her mage cloak. The other hand moved to rest just above the light, and as the aura reached out to envelop it, she thrust both into the air. The light shone out from her palms, smothering the Thief in its healing light. She had a feeling at that point, that cure was about to become her most valuable offering to the party.

The light went out around Mariella's hands and she took up her hammer again. "Do you think you might be able to keep up with us now?" she asked the thief, tilting her blonde head slightly.

Ahrexian saw the theif stab the goblin through the chest before he had noticed the other 2 that emerged from the trees.

As he watched the group engage the threat he began chanting the spell to conjure a lightning bolt under his breath. He reached out with his left hand and a single bright blue bolt shot from the tips of his fingers towards one of the goblins.

As the charred corpse fell to the group he moved away from the remaining goblin in order to re-focus his mind and prepare himself should more enemies join those already here...

He watched the Mariella heal the weary theif with a bright green light, realising her white magic and Blaise's ability to cast white magic in amongst a number of other things would prove invaluable to the group, possibly more so than his all out offence would.

Blaise stood idly by as his fellow Warriors of Light battled the goblins. He deftly balanced the pointy tip of his rapier on his finger as, out of the corner of his eye, he watched Ahrexian and Wyl dispatch of the two goblins. And of course, there was little Mariella, lending her aid to Wyl through her Cure magic. As Ahrexian stepped back from the remaining goblin, Blaise tossed the blade up in the air, caught it by the hilt, and sheathed it. "Right, my turn then?"

Blaise brazenly walked up to the snarling, drooling, foul-smelling goblin and stuck out his hand. "Hello. My name is Blaise. What's yours?" The goblin, not the most intelligent of creatures, was confused. It slowly reached out its grubby hand and grasped Blaise's, giving a slight grunt. "Urgnk? Well it's a pleasure to meet you, Urgnk." The red mage gave the goblin's hand a shake, then simply held it there. The goblin peered around Blaise, looking at the other Warriors, confusion etched upon its features. Looking back at Blaise, the goblin tried to pull its hand free. Blaise did not let go.

The goblin tugged again, to no avail. Then its eyes became the size of dinner plates, and it began furiously dancing around, trying to escape Blaise's grip. Suddenly, the goblin's forearm burst into flame, as if its elbow was the head of a struck match. The flame from the Fire spell traveled up the rest of the goblin's arm, and ignited the rest of its body. Blaise held on to the creature until the flames went out, and a pile of charred goblin bones was all that was left.

Looking into the pile, he saw what looked to be the remnants of a sack of gold. Eighteen pieces, to be exact. Using the sleeve of his robe, he picked up the money and put it in his pocket. Dusting his hands, he turned back to the group with a rare serious expression on his countenance. "I believe that's the last of them. Shall we press on?"

As he walked, rather brusquely, past Drake, he surreptitiously dropped the eighteen pieces of gold into the fighter's pocket.

"Do you think you might be able to keep up with us now?"

Healed from the white mage, Why gotten up and tried out his healed leg. "Aw and heres hoping I could get a rest for a bit." he replied sarcastically. "Well, it was fun while it lasted."

Walking over to watch the others battle. As the red mage had finished his comedic, yet interesting battle, Wyl had to give him praise for his style. "Wow, you sure know how to heat up a relationship." said Wyl, finding pleasure in his corny joke.

"And we're back to the exercise again." Wylfred grumbled as he trudged on.

Taking a moment of silence to determine if more monsters were nearby, he then felt a light weight fall in his pocket as Blaise walked past. Placing his hand inside he determined it was a small amount of gil. Proceeding to walk northwestwards he came to a large forest. Walking through it he came to the mountains on the left and right of him. Clearing through without incident he arrived at another small forest, at it's end was his destination. A large cave entrance to the Chaos Shrine.

Within the cave was in a state of ruins, following the path of ruined pillars he came to a door. "This is it, I hope you are ready" pushing the door open he saw a man in large, presumably steel armour that covered his entire body, complete with a giant cape. His helmet bore two devil-like horns, approaching the man he turned to face Drake "The king will have no choice but to exchange the kingdom for his daughter's life. Cornelia will be mine!" the man, presumably Garland spoke, not yet noticing Drake. "We are here to rescue Sarah, release her to us or suffer the concequences!" Drake spoke, gripping his sword to show he was serious "Who's there!? Hmph. The king's lapdogs. Do you have any idea who you're messing with? You really think you have what it takes to cross swords with ME? Very well... I, Garland, will knock you all down!!"

At this, garland unsheathed his sword, a fine longsword. In response Drake unsheathed his blade, blocking Garland's quick strike. "I warned you, but now you leave me no choice" Drake leapt back and pointed his sword at Garland "As defender of the light I condemn you, en garde!" Drake lifted his sword with the flat before his face before charging Garland with a hard horizontal strike which was guarded by Garland's longsword.

Ahrexian had positioned himself near the middle of the group. He walked for what felt like a couple of hours until they were in a valley of some sort.

He spoke very little for the entire journey, rather he listened to what others had to say, he felt his time would be better spent mentally preparing himself whatever lay ahead. He knew if this person had kidnapped the princess and no-one had managed to return her home yet he must be quite strong.

As he followed those in front of him into the cave he heard voices in th disntace, and the clash of metal against metal. At that he hefted his think wooden staff into both hands in order to ward off any blows struck towards him, and prepared himself to chant the incantation for his lightning spell as he headed further into the cave.

As he reached the area the noise was coming from he immediately noticed Drake engaged in combat with the man they had been looking for. As they traded blows, blocking and dodging around each other, he began to cast the spell, knowing that accuracy would be vital in order to avoid hitting the warrior of light. At the vital moment he reached out with his arm and unleashed a bolt of pure lightning towards the swirling melee, aiming for the sword of his ally, hoping to give him a little boost....

Wylfred walked towards the chaos shrine with the others. He didn't feel like fighting once they had reached the place but he didn't show his unwillingness just to look active. Once they had arrived, a man who looked somewhat like a devil worshipper in armour and the princess lying unconcious on the floor. This confused Wyl even more.

"The king will have no choice but to exchange the kingdom for his daughter's life. Cornelia will be mine!"said the man Wyl assumed to be Garland.

"Cornelia? That's all he wanted?" asked Wyl as he got out his rapier. "Well I guess we all have dreams, sadly for this guy, it's going to end..."

"Who's there!? Hmph. The king's lapdogs. Do you have any idea who you're messing with? You really think you have what it takes to cross swords with ME? Very well... I, Garland, will knock you all down!!"

He stood back as he saw Drake and Garland in feirce melee combat. At this point he didn't know whether to "knock down" Garland himself or to sneak over to the princess. "Hmm it's rude to just barge in on someone elses fight...But they'll thank me later." said wyl as he rushed towards Garland rapier in hand.

Mariella's eyes widened as they finally came across this "Garland" guy they had been sent out to deal with. Swallowing the lump in her throat as Garland made his rather aggressive little speech, the White Mage tightened her grip around the handle of her hammer. Knowing full well that with this Knight's armour, her hammer would only rebound in a rather embarassing way, dealing next to no damage upon him, Mariella turned her thoughts quickly to the offensive.

As her fingers went white as they gripped harder at the hammer, Mariella gathered her will. Her eyes flashed a pale blue as her power came together. She slowly allowed it to seep down into her fingers, which held the hammer in a vice-like group. Tendrils of soft blue light wrapped up around the hammer into the entire weapon throbbed softly with the power of her Protect. Raising the hammer above her head, she brought it down hard on the ground by Blaise's feet. Protect erupted from the head of the hammer, rebounded off the ground and enveloped the Red Mage in its light.

With a self-satisfied little smirk, Mariella rested the weapon against her shoulder. Now Blaise should take less damage from the man before them.

Blaise's face turned into a sneering scowl when he saw Garland for the first time. "Just like I suspected... hideously ugly." The red mage drew his rapier and held it at the ready.

"Very well... I, Garland, will knock you all down!!"

Throwing up his hands in mock defense. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Settle down there, Gar. Can I call you Gar? Listen, Gar, you can threaten us with drowning, with burning to a crisp, or with being eaten by a voracious kraken. But to threaten to knock us all down?" Blaise crossed his arms over his chest. "Well that's just not very nice at all."

Blaise had been stalling for time somewhat. Time to cast his Fire spell. Taking another quick second, he released the spell in Garland's direction, hoping he aimed correctly and Drake was not in the spell's line.

Just as he released his spell, he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. His energies otherwise occupied in creating the spell, he knew he would be unable to block whatever blow was incoming, so he winced and braced himself for pain. He heard a soft thump in front of him, and looked down to see a green mist emanating from Mariella's hammer and enveloping him. "A Protect spell? Well, that's much better than what I was anticipating." Glancing over at Mariella, he saw her mouth quirk up in a little smirk. He gave her a broad wink in response. "Thank you, little lady."

hearing his friends gathering Drake moved aside, since they were all mages they needed a clear shot for their magic, seeing a thunder spell fly his way, obviously not intended for Garland he connected his sword with it in mid-slash, striking Garland's sword and the electrical energy electrified Garland easily, thanks to his sword and armour.

After a battering of spells and sword, Garland launched his attack, eying the White Mage he knew with her gone they had nothing left in terms of healing however with two swordsmen present he'd best not leave himself unguarded. Thinking on the spot he charged the White Mage and launched a heavy punch into her, his brute size and strength would be overwhelming if she tried to block it, before the Warrior or the Red Mage could counter he readied his sword, with it's long reach he was within range of Blaise so he took a chance to slash at him.

Garland charged for the tiny mage. Wyl knew that with her gone the whole party would be out of luck. He dashed towards her as Garland took a swipe and attempted to block the blow with himself. He figured that if he got injured all the white mage had to do was heal him.

He leaped in front of her, using his only rapier as a sheild and taking the brunt of the blow.

"EEEEEEEP!"

The sound burst from Mariella's lips unbidden, and she knew that she would have no chance to counter or block the incoming attack. Closing her eyes tight, she braced herself for the impending attack. Yet it didn't come. Shaking, Mariella opened a silvery grey eye to find the thief stood before her, bravely defending the tiny white mage. He had put himself directly in the path of the huge knight's attack. Taking the brunt of the hit, Wyl defended Mariella from the worst of the damage, but the slender mage was still knocked back by the sheer force of the knight's attack. Landing on the ground with a thud, Mariella yelped.

"Ouchies!" she pouted, watching the knight charge at Blaise. Good thinking on her part to buff the red mage, she thought. Rising and rubbing at her now tender rear, Mariella held her hands before her. "Thiefy, you daft boy..." she muttered, drawing her will together and focusing it upon the gently throbbing ball of soft green light in her palm. Tossing the Cure at the Thief, Mariella glared at their opponent.

"OI. TIN CAN. Thought you could take care of me THAT easily did you?" she stamped a little foot and stared daggers at him.

Though... on second thoughts, it probably wasn't the smartest thing she could have done.

Realizing what she might have done, Mariella winced at her own stupidity. "Oopsies..."

Watching the scene unfold before him Ahrexian could barely believe his eyes, the thief had jumped in front of the White Mage to protect her from the man's attack...

"surely it would have made more sense to move the woman" he though to himself as he began to charge up another lightning bolt. As the enemy charged towards the Red Mage on the far side of the room Ahrexian allowed himself a tiny grin before letting go of the thunder spell in their general direction, after all, he wasn't fond of the red mage, and what harm would it do if his aim was slightly off, after all, he was doing all he could to subdue the sword wielding figure, if the mage had gotten in his way, would could he have done about it.

Watching the results of his spell he began to focus his mind in order to cast again, sort of hoping that next time he cast he would be able to get a half clear shot, so far he had had a team member in the way both times, and it would have been a whole lot easier without having be quite so careful where he launched the spells...

After casting his Fire spell, Blaise drew his rapier and watched how Garland reacted to the fight. He grimaced as the swordsman attacked Mariella through the thief. The red mage then braced himself as Garland turned his attention upon him and charged. Blaise parried the initial overhead blow, but before he could recover, Garland got in a blow to his mid-section. Blaise had just enough time to position his body so that his armor took the brunt of the blade. It wasn't fatal, but it still hurt.

Garland pressed his advantage and the two combatants locked swords. Suddenly, Blaise heard a snap and a sizzle in the air. He pushed himself away from Garland just in time to avoid Ahrexian's bolt. The streak of electricity caught Garland in the midst of a stumble. He raised his voice so Ahrexian could hear him. "We make a good team, black mage. Though we'll have to work on your aim a bit. If I were not so nimble on my feet, I might have been in trouble there."

The red mage reset himself into a defensive position, waiting for Garland's next move.

ooc: Apologies on the late reply >_>

ic: Drake, seeing Garland turn his attention to his companions tried to attack Garland from behind but Garland managed to block the blow with his hilt and then turn to grab his arms. Garland, having the superior physical build was able to hold Drake's arms in place with little resistance. With the strength in his wrists fading rapidly he managed to adjust his sword's position in his hands into a stabbing position and thrusted it into Garland's right shoulder.

The pain made Garland release him and fall to one knee, clutching his shoulder. Drake, recovering from the grapple stood over Garland "do you have any last words?"

((OOC: /casts Life.))

"do you have any last words?"

To Blaise's outright surprise, Garland began to laugh. It started as a low, throaty chuckle, then developed into an almost maniacal cackle. Momentarily stunned by the display, it took Blaise a few moments to gather his thoughts. "What, in the name of the Light, is so damnably funny?"

Garland's laughter eventually began to fade. "You actually believe you can defeat me? That you can restore the power of the Orbs? That you can defeat the Fiends?" More laughter. "No, my dear Warriors of Light, you will never be successful. Strike me down. It matters not."

"As you wish." Drake plunged his sword directly into Garland's chest, delivering what should have been a fatal blow. But instead of simply passing away, Garland's body began to shimmer, then slowly contract into a small point of darkness. His form doubled in on itself numerous times over, then with a whooshing sound, it disappeared completely. Instantaneously, an explosion rocked the room, emanating outward from the point Garland had dissappeared into. The force of the blast was enough to send everyone in the room flying backwards several feet.

Blaise stood up slowly, and dusted off his red robe. "Well. I guess he got his wish after all. He knocked me down."

Wylfred picked himself up off the ground. The blast from the explosion left him with a adrenaline rush that he coun't use. "Ugh. now what?" he sighed as he rested his eyes on the princess unconcious.

He walked over to her as she lay on the floor, jewels outfitting her body. Wylfreds obsession with jewels took over and he began plucking diamonds off her dress. He then reached his hand for the neckless with the emerald but as the princess awoke, it fell between her chest. "Oh! You're awake." Wylfred said as she opened her eyes while he stuffed tyhe diamonds in his bag. "Hey guys, look she's alive. Now lets take her back!"
