Has anyone got any tips on how to defeat this boss? He buttrapes me every time ... I just can't get his armour off quick enough before he amplifies his magic and roflstomps me with a chain of the -ga spells.

Whenever I need healing I have two healers assigned and a synergist to buff me at the same time ... but it doesn't really seem to help =/

Any help would be much appreciated =]

I found it greatly advantageous to have a Saboteur on hand - in my case this was Fang. While I was healing up she'd remove Haste/Faith and whatnot, then I dive in with two Ravagers and a Commander until healing or de/rebuffing was required again.

If you use Sazh, make use of Haste on your healer.

Use Lightning, Fang and Hope.

Have Relentless Assault (Rav, Com, Rav)
Tireless Charge (Com, Com, Med)
Combat Clinic (Med, Sen, Med)
Then also have (Med, Sen, Syn) Called protection or something.

And then whatever else may help you in the bottom two, if you can get
(Med, Sab, Syn) That is a HUGELY useful one.

Hope that helps and good luck

(Oh take control of Lightning)

Since it's the same guy i'll post here instead of making a new thread :mokken:

Alright, so his second fight after Oerba where he has 3087500 HP or something :hmmm:

I can get him down to about 50000 when his doom kicks in and kills me, anybody got any tips to A: Prevent doom and if not, B: Kill him in time? I've been desperate enough to grind in every single role so any help would be appreciated.

Right now I have a team of Hope, Lightning and Fang

Hope has 3430 HP, 554 strength and 1166 magic

Lightning has 4675 HP, 1305 strength and 839 magic

Fang has 4960 HP, 967 strength and 569 magic

My Paradigms are:

Relentless Assault: Ravager, Ravager, Commando
Combat Clinic: Medic, Medic, Sentinel
Strike Team: Synergist, Commando, Commando
Protection: Synergist, Medic, Sentinel
Aggression: Ravager, Commando, Commando
Evened Odds: Synergist, Medic, Saboteur

I mostly stick to Protection at the start but forgetting about it once he starts using that attack to remove all buffs, for healing I obviously use Combat Clinic and for attack I alternate between Relentless Assault and Aggression.

So, halp? :mokken:

@Damon.

Once you get him down to around 600,000 HP switch over to your Evened Odds Paradigm. This will allow you to remove any negative effects on your team and possibly reduce his resistance to physical and magical damage. With this done switch very quickly to Combat Clinic to ensure everyone is maxed out HP wise.

then SPAM relentless assault healing only when ABSOLUTELY necessary. Once he is staggered switch over to Aggression as this allows for greater damage from Light and Fang whilst Hope is able to continue increasing the Chain bonus.

With this method you *should* only need to stagger him once, and you may even get away without him casting Doom.

Also, obviously heal whenever you feel you need to, remembering Thanatosian Laughter does a fair bit of damage, but as long as you keep your HP out of the red with that sort of number you should be OK.

If not come back and shout at me and then I'll type more rubbish.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it worked :8F:

I just killed the bastard :mokken:

Took my 15 minutes though so no stars D: but 100000 CP makes me feel better.

Mostly a cast of switching between relentless assault till he was almost staggered, switching to Combat Clinic to top people off, return to RA to finish up, as soon as STAGGER appeared I switched quickly to Aggression and smacked him apart with tons of 10000+ hits :wacky:

Just wash rinse repeat of this and he went down in no time

Thanks a bunch, Lee :awesome:

Excellent glad I could be of help.

This shall forever be chalked up as success number one, with, hopefully more to follow.

Anyway, any more Barthandelus related queries... Bring 'em on :D

His pretty easy but then again i was pretty much over powered when i got to him XD.

I Just used the exact same setup as Lightning did. Also if you ever find yourself Struggling with Boss fights go and Farm CP at the Rangda's if your fast enough you can make 12.4k CP a minute when i mena fast i mean a fight with them should take between 14 - 20 seconds.

Btw very nice Set up lightning, i used the exact same setup the other day and it works wonders.

I found Sentinels to be a huge help in this battle, particularly for the first half. I personally had Snow, Vanille, and Lightning, and the only real paradigms I used were:

SEN, MED, COM
SEN, RAV, COM

For the second half of the battle, you'll want to try something different though. He uses a move that empties his chain gauge, so you'll have to stagger him quickly and get as much damage in as possible. This is probably where the Saboteur comes in.

A little tip on beating him is to go all out on his armor, and heal up when necessary, then when he's charging his blast Destructo, pound his head with damage (you have around 30secs to do it)

If you hit him for enough damage (get his stagger bar half way) the screen will kinda flash and his blast attack will only do half damage, just try be fully healed when he's charging, if you feel you wont do enough damage, pull out an eidolon as a failsafe.

The probelm that I'm having is he is casting doom at 1 million health versus the 400k-600k that I've seen other people get doom, has anyone else had this problem?

I found that by not staggering him too much he won't use doom, when I fought him and won he didn't use doom and I didn't stagger him often, perhaps that is the 'doom trigger'?

Do I need to have all the available role levels obtained on the crystarium before i fight Barthandelus for the second time?

All role levels meaning:
Lightning - medic, commando, ravager
Fang - commando, sentinel, saboteur
Hope - medic, ravager, synergist

I found that the more you have when you are fighting him the easier he is as you will have more HP and your characters will be stronger. Hwever if you check page 1 of this thread there is a strategy written by me :D on how to beat the second Barthandelus that you may find helpful.

Yeah, I read that and it was helpful, but I tried to put it into practice about an hour ago and I ended up dying with him at a little over 100,000hp left. My main problem is that he keeps poisoning me. Poisoning and cursing...

Never mind, I just beat him.

Alright, I've tried everything to beat Barthandelus the second time. I even tried switching up my party to include Sazh so I'd have access to Haste (which you shouldn't try if he's not a main party member. :'D). I've never had a problem with any other encounter in the game.

Anyway, I've tried the strategy offered in the guide book. I'm having the same problem as coolsport23. He has way too much HP when he casts doom for me to Relentless Assault him down, even when I use Renew and Dispelga with my full TP charges. The problem is certainly not me dying out of his normal attacks, it's simply the doom counter. I can't see the number totals for his hp (if there's something obvious I'm missing here, do tell me xD), but his health is extending past the TARGET text above his health bar when he casts doom.

I'll give it a shot just tank and spanking while avoiding staggers, but from what I've experienced (and what is mentioned in the guide), I feel that might hurt more than help. Can't do much worse than I'm doing, in any case.

I've got Fang's weapon upgraded to star on first stage, same for Hope, and Lightning's to star on second stage. Crystariums (mostly) maxed for main roles.

Edit: I got him. I went com/sab/med long enough to put slow on him, then com/com/med for majority of the fight. This got him somewhat close to staggering, so I went med/sen/med until his bar completely emptied, then went back, putting Slow on him again when necessary. I got him very much lower in health this way before he Doom'd me, which is the only time I began using Relentless Assault to stagger him and get him down quick. Worked like a charm.

I just defeated him just now, with Lightning, Vanille, and Fang. Took me two tries. The first time he casted Doom when his health was a little over halfway gone, and obviously I couldn't meet the deadline. I think I spent too much time healing (with two medics and sentinel) instead of using Diversity.

So the second time was a lot better when I was using Diversity pretty much the whole time, sometimes switching to Relentless Assault when my health are in good standing. To haste my healing capabilities, I'll use Combat Clinic paradigm (Two medics and sentinel) right after Barthandelus casts the annoying Destrudo ability. One round of that and I switch back to Diversity.

Basically my aim was to deal as much damage as possible and as quickly as possible. He casted Doom when he about to die, so I have no idea why he didn't cast it sooner like he did the first time - but like I said, I figured maybe I spent too much time being idle by healing and not dealing enough damage. While Lightning was in Doom, I summoned Odin to finish the battle quickly.

Eh the 2nd battle was easy after osing 40 fluckin times. The reason why I sa easy is because I leared from his attacks and pattern and he did not even doom me once. I had Lightning just attack with relentless assault. Combat clinic is really the best way to heal. I slowed him deprotected him deshelled and imperiled him and the battle was so Easy. I hit for 25000 each hit when he is staggered. But be careful of his Aspostis which will heal all his status effects. And his laughter attack isnt a problem. :mokken: Im glad I learned from my mistakes and owned his ass. Just strategy for some peeps who have trouble :mokken:

Yeah... see tried this... didn't work. All my characters are completely leveled with the crystarium, so I really don't know what the deal is. :wacky:

I will have to try that next. XD

^That's the problem I keep having. Casting doom at the 1 mil mark... what a load of crap. >_<
