So like . . . there are a few words in Final Fantasy XII that are misspelled/changed. Heres a list of them:

Manufacted - Manufactured*
Magick - Magic*
Technick - Technique*

And there are a few others. Does this annoy you? It doesn't annoy me. In fatc, I like it. I think it's interesting even if it's silly. Anyone have a theory or KNOWS why they did this? There has to be a reason . . .

haha, yeah, it's funny how they use Magick! Sometimes the subtitles aren't the same as what they say too.

I agree with the first one perhaps. The last two are deliberately spelled that way I presume.

I think they used unique spelling to add to the in-game culture and atmosphere, but that's just me.

In either case, Final Fantasy is a pretty big budget series and so I'm sure they wouldn't miss too many genuine mistakes before they published it, without there being a good reason for them.

However, you do still come across a few, especially in the earlier games. FFVII has some real classics :D.

I think these are just game-unique words, most games have them if you look closely. I wouldn't say they were typos or spelling errors considering the voice-overs.

I really doubt that those three words were "mis-spelled." For manufacted, I really can't offer an answer. The last two are intentionally spelled as such. Magick actually is a real word, while I'd imagine Technick is spelled similarly in order to keep some kind of consistency.

While I'm only slipping in some possibilities, I really don't think that they're mis-spelled words.

Well I dont think they were misspelled either . . .
A company like Square Enix wouldnt have let that slip
Im just saying according to THE ENGLISH DICTIONARY
they are misspelled hahaha

Magick and technik would be archaisms.
they made 1 mistake with manufactured, which is pretty good compared to FFVII

Personally, I can not stand when magic is spelled "magick". I've seen it in several other stories and it annoys me everytime I read it because the work just looks spelled wrong. And in the earlier FF games it was spelled "magic" so why couldn't the same have been done for XII?

And yeah, Tecnik is annoying too, though I do not see it as much as magick

Yes, there is something about "k" that kinda puts me off. Mind you, I don't really mind it though. I mean, it's just a unique way of spelling the words to give it more character, but I really prefer the appearances of "magic" and "technique".

It just seems more right to me.

It doesn't really bother me, altho I was wondering what the whole thing with manufacted was all about, but then I just asumed it was like machines being machina in X *shrugs*

And after VII, anything is an improvment haha

Why on earth would Magic, being spelt as Magick in FFXII annoy anyone? Just because of the inclusion of a K letter makes a lot of difference...?
Not really. It's still the same thing at the end of the day.

Manufacted - Manufactured agreed spelling mistake.

Magick - Magic & Technick -Technique - I believe this is FF version of the words, done delibrately.

One musn't forget that in FF10, when performing the attack Magic Breaker, Auron says "You can't hide behind your Magicks"

I think that all three of them are intentionally spelt wrong, so that they are incorporated with how the people in the game would actually speak. They actually say "manufacted nechicite" not manufactured.

Or, manufacted is a mistake the translators made, and the other 2 have been changed for the purpose of XII.

I can't imagine that the production line would be so mechanical in their thought processes that no one would think to question such an obvious spelling mistake as "manufacted," particularly when every character said that word. It's not a mistake, it's clearly intentional. As to why, I'm unsure, though.
