FF Versus XIII Team now working on FFXIII

Versus XIII suspended, Final Fantasy XIII is priority

In the latest issue of Famitsu, an interview with Tetsuya Nomura revealed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is currently being put on hold. Nomura, the game's director, said that the majority of the team working on Versus XIII is now helping out on Final Fantasy XIII. The main title in the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation is top priority at the moment.

While both games will appear at the upcoming August Square Enix party (in non-playable form), Nomura hints at a bigger reveal and more info to come at Tokyo Game Show in October. Knowing Square Enix, this means a minute of ambiguous footage in a closed theater. Let's hope we're wrong about that last speculative statement and see if a playable demo comes in October.

itsawesome that there will be new info at the October TGS but It stinks that FFVXIII is being put on hold. That was the one I was looking forward to the most too.
 
yes me and you both.. however this way makes more sense anyways, because hopefully things will work out in the way that FF XIII comes out earlier, and better so that when it does come out hopefully the people working on FFXIII will help to work on versus XIII making it better.

I was just saying to my distraught friend yesterday regarding SE's disappearance from E3 not to worry because SE party plus tgs will blow out all the good news we want and the next day here we are..

QTF. I agree with you all the way on that. I really cant wait for the TGS and the party because its been no news for months now. I am hoping SE will release the new trailers at the next TGS soon after the show. It gets kind of annoying how JPN gets all the good stuff way before USA and Europe and stuff.
 
Famitsu: Versus on Hold, XIII Takes Priority

Famitsu has conducted an interview with Nomura about the upcoming DKΣ3713 private event, and managed to get a few new details:

- DKΣ3713 is a private show so for the general public that wants to see and play the games, TGS in October will feature more new information.

- The event will be at the same format as previous S-E events, with closed theatre as well as playable booths outside.

- Birth by Sleep will be playable for the first time at the event.

- Despite the news that Square Enix was going to scale back from Mobile development, it appears that Kingdom Hearts: Coded, 3rd Birthday and Agito XIII will still be going ahead.

- Agito XIII seems to be facing serious development issues at the moment. There is a huge worldview and historical timeline.

- The director of Agito XIII is doing the outline of the entire story synopsis himself now, development is still in early stages.

- Versus XIII is on hold until FFXIII is done, because the entire Versus team is helping to finish Final Fantasy XIII at the moment. It is number one priority.

- While the planners and programmers are all working on Final Fantasy XIII, the Versus project is getting the designers to work on a lot of image illustrations and conceptual visuals. The story for Versus is also pretty much complete.

- Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days is being tuned and balanced, but it is not quite as polished as Dissidia yet. They'll be taking feedback from the playable demo.

- Birth by Sleep is not anywhere close to a final build, but Nomura wants to let people get a chance to try it out first.

- Advent Children Complete might finally be close to getting a release date.

Wow this is some awesome news. I am a fan of KH's so thats good to hear that 358/2 days is coming ALong. hmmm with all these people working on FFXIII the good thing about that is it will probably get done faster will all those people.
 
i agree, it is a smart idea of putting the versus project on hold because like Ruud said ffXIII versus is the game to end the ff13 series so if they release it before the other ff13 is released that might cause some confusion to many people. very good information
 
well that's good Versus was suppose to come after wards anyway but I have to admit I am more interested in Versus than XIII but w/e they both look pretty solid

I really don't see why they have put that on hold and not the other one aswel, they could so take a back seat until XIII is out, I'm pretty sure people will play the main game first anyway -__-

Pleasing, its nice to see that XIII going to move on at a speedier pace now.
Though i would love to see Versus just as much too.

However I'm considering of buying a PS3 so I can play it and DMC4 D:
but even so I still think Versus looks cooler, but XIII still takes priority :monster:
 
Wow interesting. I am actually happy to hear that. Sure it would be cool to have XIII done faster but not at the price of VXIII stopping.
 
Versus XIII Reports are "false"

Square Enix has rubbished suggestions that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold. "Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false," the publisher said in a statement passed on to Eurogamer.

"The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."

That rather significantly contradicts translations of game director Tetsuya Nomura's comments in a Famitsu article, where he reportedly used the words "on hold" and said "the entire Versus team is helping to finish Final Fantasy XIII".

Along with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, Versus makes up a three-game "compilation" of titles marking the next, and next-generation, step forward in the famous Square RPG series.

Not much is really known about it other than what's been seen in trailers, but Nomura has previously evoked Kingdom Hearts when searching for comparisons. Speaking to Eurogamer last May, Nomura said it would "examine the humanity of the characters in this game" and distinguish itself from the FF games' traditional fantasy worlds.

"In Versus I'm trying to propose new vision of how a Final Fantasy game can be. The game's going to be more human than the science-fiction caricature we so often see. It will focus around current world events - in that sense it's darker," he explained at the time.

It's also still happily in development, or so Square Enix says, despite the inevitable bias towards getting FF XIII - a banner game for both its publisher and platform holder Sony - out of the door as quickly as possible. Hopefully we'll hear more about its progress at E3.

Did they actually just add bits in to get more publicity considering 'Versus development suspended' sounds nothing like 'team members get moved when they have nothing to do.'?

In all honest, if anything, I'm more hyped over FFXIII Versus purely because it just looks like it has a far more interesting plot and the battle system sounds better. I can wait for FFXIII to be honest.
 
I'm the opposite. I was quite glad when I thought that Versus was on hold. I want XIII and I wants it now! :gasp: I can wait for Versus.
 
Good news = FFXIII comes out faster.
Bad news = FFXIII versus won't come out for a while.

I'm bugged becuase I liked the look off versus better than the normal one but hey a new FF game is a new FF game.
 
It's good the XIII will come out faster, but it'll still be a while yet. So il save my pennnies before buying a PS3 just yet.

It does seem to be that with every new FF game, it takes longer and longer to be released. The release dates just keep getting but further and further back! :mad: Anyone reckon it'll well into 2009 before XIII is released in the UK?
 
I wouldn't hold my breath. Don't be surprised if you don't see XIII on store shelves before Q2-Q4 of 2009. On another note I have heard that Square is considering a simultaneous world-wide release.
