Fan Fiction Fellow Writers - Come Chat!

FFF Crisis II is on hiatus for the moment, in case others were wondering. I may even stop the series because I've just lost inspiration to do it in the past month or so. What do you think?

:'( Ultimately it's your choice, people will be saddened but we'll live I'm currently feeling the same with DoD

It's your choice Ami. If you honestly have no inspiration, then it probably is best you leave the story now then finishing it with a crap ending.

I've decided to put FFF Crisis II on hiatus, until November. I'm going to finish it as I initially intended to, but there will be a few slight changes i.e. recent events, members leaving, etc. This story indeed reflects upon the site itself and I'll accept any criticism to my actions in the story in the forthcoming future.

I've been told by people that I'm a good writer, but that my largest problem is that I'm just too damn lazy to actually get around to writing. Most of the time I just sit and daydream about what I want to write about. I change my characters and plot waaay to much and too drastically to actually get anywhere if I do start writing. Actually, the plots tend to be static, same with a few characters. Now that I think about it, it mostly tends to be the central character that changes the most. It frustrates me because I have several great ideas that i could turn into books/series, but I change the main character too much and with only keeping a few traits the same it just doesn't work.

And I suck at writing climactic scenes... I mean really... I SUCK at them... And I'm really self-conscious about anything I do, especially my writing, so it takes alot of effort to get me to let other people see what I actually do write down. You have no idea how much I fret about things when I send emails... or call people... I have a really strong fear of being embarrassed, But I'm slowly getting over it.

I can be really creative when I want to be, but alot of times I use ideas that I get from other writers (inspiration might be a better word), but I use so many, from so many different sources, and then infuse a bunch of my own ideas that it ends up being really original. Kinda like American culture... sortof... I also tend to either parody cliches and/or have the complete opposite of cliches. And I also create the most random, bizarre, yet fitting analogies.

Oh, and when I actually do post stuff, I'm going to want all the criticism I can get even though it'll make me uncomfortable, but i really dislike it when people make comments that don't help me at all.

I'll try to critique people's stuff if i get the free time though.

Welcome to my world *sighs*. People tell me I have really good ideas but they're not completely put together...How to describe it? Imagine everything I think about are just pieces of a puzzle that still have to be put together... and that's kind of annoying ^^;

God, my writer's block for the FFF Crisis series is going to be longer than I thought. Hopefully, I'll think of the next chapter come November. I've just had so much stuff going on in my life to consider.

However, on the other hand, I may be putting up a new story soon. It chronicles the early years of Faith Crest, but will in no way be connected to FFF Crisis. Original characters, including mine, will make their appearances and I think this could possibly be the reason for my writer's block for FFF Crisis; switching interests.

Understand that? Anyone else ever felt that before? I'm so inspired to write at least four novels on this series. I won't be revealing the name as of yet because it gives so much away. Know that it is going to be a story based on the people of a small town when many strange things begin to occur. For now, I'll reveal one little tiny thing about that town. Its name is Marwick.

its good that you decided to take a bit of time off from writing, I usually find that if I complete at least a paragraph to a chapter a day-week it usually helps you maintain your vision than trying to cram all your ideas in, with one fell swoop.

Im currently writing a story about an insane black mage, and how he falls into insanity, my original idea was that he was always a bit unstable because he was treated like an outsider, and rejection utlimatley makes him lose his mind completely, but Ive decided to go with slightly unstable to begin with and his fall becomes a tragedy of circumstance, I feel it adds more depth to the character and allows people to have some kind of empathy with him rather than be completely miss-understood.

anyway tell me what you think so far, Im about 3/4 of the way through chapter 2 (intending to switch between diary entries and real time entries as the story progresses in a hope to flesh out the character a bit more) If theres anything you feel I could change let me know ;)

Darkrul, so your story is sort of angsty and dark because he is insane? If you put up, I'll gladly read it. If you have done so already, I'll see if it's up now.

aye its currently up, onto chapter 3 at the moment, his mind is currently a bit more stable but the following events are going to be a little....strenious on his phyche :p

The story is now completed, and will be continued In a ORPG saga entitled: The Darkest Hour: The Great War of Granseal.

Whilst I'm trying to work out how the hell the next chapter of FFF Crisis II is going to work out, I've added the next entry for the FFF Crisis Blogs. Go check it out! :P

I need advice on how to improve my vocabulary, it use to be that I would join an English where I learn about a lot words and sentence structureds but recently it feels as though that I cannot even understand simple words or their meanings. Not only that but it actually feels as though that I am "losing" my knowledge, I was never that eloquent of a writer and speaker anyway but I get my message across and I need to get my brain stimulated again. Do you have any tips for me?

I really can't say much about how to increase your vocabulary because i have just sort of picked mine up as i went. It really depends on what you are going to be using it for. I mean if you just want to expand it so you can use a larger variety of words in everyday conversation then it is a quite different then using it in your writing when you are penning a new poem, story, or whatever your writing style may take you. Honestly before anyone could really give you advice we would need to know which area you planned to use it in..

HOWEVER since this is a thread devoted to writers, i am assuming you wish to use them for the writing aspect of things. That being said, there are quite a few things you can do. Here are three that i have found to work though.

1. When delivering your message to your audience through poem, song, story, ect... it is always nice to throw in a few words that would possibly astound your writer, this you already know of course. So the best way to go about things would be to find a dictionary site somewhere on the web if you are on a computer (or a thesaurus if you are writing on a more tangible basis). Once there, type in the word you are seeking to find another way to say, and then search for a synonym of it. Do this enough and the words will stick in your memory.

2. If writting a poem, try using repition when using a new word. It tends to stick the word and meaning into your head. If writting a story or other piece of work, then maybe try using the word you want to use, and then undermind it with a slight definition after the phrase without being too direct that you are trying to describe it.

3. Read other artists work. Trust me, it helps alot when trying to grow your mental vocab sheet. Read other peoples poems or stories, and when you come across words you don't know the meaning of, look them up and implant them into your mind by repeating them a couple times. Same with a song from your favorite band. Listen to music a lot.. preferabbly music you can her the lyrics too so that you can here the words.

I don't know why but it seems that I have still these creative dryspells to the point where I can no longer muster the patience to read a good fiction story or I have come with ideas but they seem to pale in comparison to other people's ideas. I don't why but it feels as though that I cannot seem to get into "creativity" mode when I stare at a blank piece of paper, I want to write something down but I cannot put it on paper. I usually get ideas from books or after watching shows to get a better understanding of the story of the show but I cannot seem to concentrate on that as well.
I like to thank you all for the tips on writer's block but now I need some help with these "dryspells" that I have. I do not know whether it is seasonal depression or any other psychological matter but I just go to sit down and just read the books I am reading. I have to return to the library and they are overdue as it is but what methods do you suggest that I can utilize to overcome there "dryspells"?

Right, so I've just started a new VII fic. It's yuffie-centric and most likely an eventual yuffentine but it's a lot different from other stuff I've done before. First of all in my other fics (different fandoms) my chapters tend to average a measly 1,000 words..with this one I am aiming for at least 3,000 words per chapter...plus a much longer fic in general and a much more detailed plot. So since it's such new territory for me I expect to run into a few problems.

First of all since it's a more detailed plot at opposed to simply dealing with one or two characters with all others on the sidelines it means I have to get characterization down. Now, I think I am fine for Yuffie and Vincent..which surprises me because I always thought they seems like the hardest to write (since so many people go overboard on their stereotypes) but I did a few one-shots on them (4 or 5 I think) that really helped me get into their characters, I figure that if I run into trouble with the others (AVALANCHE basically) I could try that same method.

The biggest problem I know I am going to have is the action scenes. I intend for this fic to be rather action heavy at times and intense..but I have never written action scenes before, none that were more than a very small section...so this is going to be a real problem. I figure my best bet is to read others, but it can be hard to find those fics so in the mean time does anybody have any suggestions for these? Especially on how to write good action sequences!

Hmm... I started when I was about 12 with writing FanFiction, my native language is Dutch, but since I've never written any FanFic in dutch. :wacky:

But this brings me to a point where I've always wished I was better at English, I used to have so many ideas to write something, but my grammar and spelling was alot more horrible than I can say it is now. Sometimes I feel I can't explain myself properly. As in explaining feelings, typing out a scenery or a certain mood set for my FanFic. I just love writing FanFics in english, so... =/

Like right now, I'm writing a new Final Fantasy VII FanFic, and I'm just writing out random scenes instead of going from the beginning to the end. I've been dealing with a writer's block for the past two years, 'cause I just never seem to be able to think of any storylines/plots (definitely this one). =/

The one I'm writing now is my first shot at a multi-chapter one in a long while. I hope it's at least decent...

What do you guys do to get inspiration? Or how do you think of storylines?

Edit: OMG... Story Titles... Sometimes they pop-up out of nowhere, but like right now, I'm so stuck trying to think of a bit longer replacement title for "Potential" *which is what the story is called temporarily.*... -__-

I'm currently working out the kinks of an FFVII ... well, it's kind of a series I guess, of fics going from the events of Crisis Core, all the way to Dirge of Cerberus and then one ... maybe two past that depending on how it all goes. If my idea works out well, then it might extend to the other games in the series.>_>

My inspiration comes from many things. I can be walking down the street and I'll see a tree which will then form into a scene in my mind. I rush home, start writing and an entire chapter comes from it. Sometimes my dreams inspire me and also reading books and watching films. Also playing games helps.

I just let it flow. Hopefully I'll be able to start writing my fics soon, rather than being stuck in the planning stages, but we'll see how work goes. ;__;

If you really want to increase your vocabulary, read books that don't interest you. You'll learn all sorts of new words that way. Or you can go to thesaurus.dictionary.com and type in a word, then look at all the synonyms and related words in the list to the left. You can click one of those you don't know, and repeat that process until you've had your fill for the moment.

I think it works.

I used to write a lot more, like poems and fantasy stuff. But not to long ago i lost almost all my inspiration. Me and writing kinda had a falling out. But i am going to try and get back in the habit of writing, it helped me pass the time when i got really bored.
