What are your favourite battle themes or action type music from video games? It can be the regular battle theme, boss theme, a theme for when battling a specific character from any video game past or present, or even music not played during a battle but could and should be. :monster:

Thought this could be an interesting thread, and could lead to some listening in on awesome music, which would make people happy, right? :P

So for starters, I'm really into Disgaea atm, so one of the tunes I was able to locate on Youtube is from Disgaea 3's OST: Modern Times. Give that a good listen, it is there for listening pleasure after all. :busta:

Oh this is an easy one for me. Back when I was young and playing Earthbound, the final boss scared my ass shitless. His name was Giygas, and this fucker didn't have a catchy tune. FUCK THAT. His ass didn't need one.

So instead, you got this creepy ass, fucked up, ambient noise in the background with a tiny hit of a tune. It matched the mood perfectly, and really gave you an idea on just how fucked up Giygas was.

Then, one of my favorite games, Chrono Cross, you had the "final" boss music. The actual final boss had no boss music. But with the next to the last, you got this gem of a tune, and it was great.

The final boss, while having no actual music, was supposed to have this, but it wasn't implemented for some reason. (However, I liked "Dragon God" more.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utmO5_F-1q4

Oh God, how you're going to hate me. I have so many themes coming. Get ready. :wacky:

DDS 1's events battle theme, basically the kind that you're forced into but isn't quite a boss.

A boss theme from DDS 1, and it's absolutely fantastic.

Second DDS 1 boss theme. The start especially is fantastic.

One of two final boss themes in DDS 1. So powerful it just never fails to get my blood boiling and my mind immersed in the fight.

The second final boss theme, and my god does it deliver. Sinister yet powerful, a difficult combination to get right.

Beautiful. Rocky, and really gets you pumped. This is the random battle theme for DDS2.

One of many DDS2 boss themes, this is fantastic, starting off quite slowly and then building in speed and volume.

Yet another fantabulous DDS boss theme. It plays rarely, but when it does, it once again gets you pumped up.

Final boss music of DDS 2, and my God is it good.

Great rocky theme for Persona 3. You hear it about 4 times only in the whole game. 5 if you fight the optional boss. but it is spectacular. :ryan:

Kinda the miniboss theme of Persona 3. It's good, simple and fast paced.

Soft start and a rocky climax, this song only plays a few times. It's so powerful.

My current addiction and favourite theme, this is more refined than the others, but it still doesn't fail to impress.

Gewd thread. :ryan: Thanks for giving me a chance to fangasm.

You're welcome, my pleasure. And I don't hate you for putting up all those songs, I love it, so much awesome music, kudos to you for good taste in battle music, the kind with some of the most upbeat music in the history of...music. :lew:

Oh, boss theme from Phantom Brave, always loved it, have a little listen in on this song from it's soundtrack called Game Breaker, 'tis epic music. :ryan:

Maybe eventually I'll get around to mentioning more than one good tune at a time. >.>

My all-time favourite is this from Dragon Quest 6:

Really took the battle to a whole new level of epicness.
Though I do like the standard boss battle theme in DQ6 as well:

Also the final battle music from Bahamut Lagoon:

SNES music was the best :woo:

Fangasming time! ^o^

I'd better do mine in links, not actual videos. I'll stretch the page to extreme lengths otherwise. Plus I can never get videos to work right with the Youtube tags. xD;

NieR has, in my opinion, the greatest soundtrack of any video game ever, so I've got to include some of the battle themes from that in this post...namely, The Dark Collossus Destroys All, which made the fight with the giant Shade ridiculously dramatic and very memorable, and Song of Ancients - Fate, my favourite version of the song, and a very appropriate battle theme, considering who you fight when its playing. Whilst the lyrics don't mean anything, I think its pretty catchy~

Challenge An Arch Demon, from Dragon Age: Origins is one of the most epic final boss themes ever, in my opinion. It plays during the High Dragon fight as well, but it doesn't have quite the same impact then as it does at the end of the game, where you're finally taking on the ArchDemon.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria has some truly amazing boss themes, as well. Namely, Lezard Valeth's two themes, How Wicked Ruler and Unrestrained Struggle. They set the mood perfectly, especially when characters are using Soul Crushes ♥

Also, Carmilla's theme from Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. This is definetely my favourite track from the game, and I don't even own it yet. Its insanely dramatic.

I'm quite fond of Brothers of Blood from God of War III. Overall, the soundtrack for this game is pretty damn awesome, and this piece is one of my favourites.

Now, everything thus far I've posted has included vocals, so I'm going to post some non-vocal themes I've enjoyed...Dance of Sadness from Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is one of my favourite battle themes, because its quite classy.

The True Mirror from Baten Kaitos is definetely my favourite default battle theme ever. Its quite a nice orchestral piece. It also has an electric guitar version used in some boss battles, which actually sounds quite special after you've been hearing the original version for a few hours.
On the subject of Baten Kaitos, Malpercio's boss themes, Violent Storm and Supreme Ruler of the Nine Heavens are both suitably epic as well.

For more Sakuraba magic...Maelstrom's Clutches, from Star Ocean: The Last Hope. This was the best boss theme from the entire game, and it made the final boss much more enjoyable. I'm more fond of the arranged version, though.

I'm not entirely sure it counts, but the Champion Cynthia's theme that plays just before you fight her in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum is a nice little piano piece. Overall I was extremely disappointed with the OST from this game, but I absolutely love this piece ♥

Whilst I'm not a huge BlazBlue fan, I am quite fond of White Requiem. It sounds like something out of Castlevania...

Doopliss' theme grows on you after a while. Its somewhat quirky and very...Halloween-ish, but its quite catchy. Doopliss himself was awesome as well ♥

Ravenous Demon! is quite a good battle theme as well. It reminds me of the classic Jaws theme and, considering its Deviljho's battle theme, this isn't entirely inappropriate. Plus until you reach HR50 (which takes a while) every time you hear this battle theme you run like hell to another area. xD

The unoriginally titled Darkness from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is quite good. They totally messed it up in Corruption in my opinion; the Echoes version is much more dramatic, since Dark Samus is clearly the primary antagonist in the game and, after Prime's secret ending, it had a lot mroe impact. VS Chykka Larva is quite catchy as well, in an odd, techno-ish way...

...I'll add more when I have the time. xD

How could I forget VP2? -__-

Aside from Martel's links, here's two battle themes I really love.

One of Lezard's themes. After How Wicked Ruler yet before Unrestrained Struggle. I love it because it just makes you think "KILL HIM FOR THE SAKE OF THE WORRRRRLD!" :rage:

For the fights with
Hrist Valkyrie and Freya.
This is possibly my favourite track, because it just goes with Freya's absolute pawnage.

These are all 4 form of Giygas. All of them essentially letting you know just how evil this thing was. There is no beat, there is no catchy tune, no thought out rock solos, no chorus. It gives you the feeling of dread that the characters you play as are feeling. Not only that, this boss at one point is unbeatable.

Your party lies critically wounded, and the only way to stop him from destroying you in the next turn is to fucking pray. You have to beg this beast to not kill you. One of the other antagonists says it best when he tells the party: "You will all be just another meal to him."

Funny thing is, this is aimed at a younger audience. As a kid, THIS MADE ME SHIT A FUCKING CASTLE.

Fuck... I'm going to play this game again. Motherfucker, I loved it. :ryan:
