Well, what is everyone favorite comic relief from the final fantasy series? There has been a lot, and a couple really stand out for me.

Ultros, I really enjoyed the battles against him just because of what he would say, always had good lines, and seriously, any octopus that tries to interrupt an opera has to have something funny about him.

Balthier, had plenty of good liners in XII, and was for my money "the leading man"

Quina, for some reason, his/her dumb lines always made me laugh, and if you get him/her Vivi married, it is quite awkward and funny

Edgar, he had some good lines, but most of all I just laughed when I used his tools, it was just funny how he looked, how on one tool he had the Jason mask...good stuff

I have a few; Ultros in FFVI, I loved his design and I always found his battles amusing
I also love how after spending so much time antagonising you, he winds up working at the Colosseum

Gilgamesh was particularly good in FFV and his appearance in FFXII was comical too. I still find the Excalipur joke in FFV funny xD

But my favourite 'Comic relief' characters is Steiner from FFIX, his uptightness in contrast to Zidane was just hilarious.

I agree that Steiner was a good comic relief, the polar opposites of Zidane and Steiner's personality led to some funny moments. I loved his little temper tantrums where he rattled when he jumped up and down. Can't say the same for Zidane, he just annoyed me...alot:eek:uttahere:

I think friction between certain characters provides for good comic relief, witty banter is always good.

My ultimate fav for comic relief was Reno from FFVII AC. I was usually laughing at something he said or did in all his scenes.

But in the games there have been alot of comic relief characters. Some of them worked and some not so well, lol.

FFVIII: Biggs and Wedge seemed to make me laugh a lot. They were just unlucky idiots who were always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some of the things they came out with were pretty funny.

I also thought Zell was kinda funny. His argument with Seifer on the Dollet mission cracked me up, as well as his constant yapping about hotdogs. I think he was intentionally made to be a little more immature than the other characters, so that his naivety could be used for comic relief.

FFIX: Like I mentioned I thought Steiner was pretty funny, although he could also be a pain in the ass.

Quina also worked as comic relief, mostly because people laughed and asked can 'it' really be that stupid? lol. I think a bit of simple, dumbed down humour works once in a while.

FFXII: Balthier really worked for me, probably why he became one of my favourite characters. He had cheeky, brazen personality which usually adheres to comic relief. He was arrogant but also very tongue in cheek about it.

A lot of people have mentioned good ones - Ultros in FFVI is a real 'what the hell' character, Steiner is great in FFIX when he's especially uptight in the first half of the game, constantly getting annoyed with Zidane and being driven to distraction. Zidane calling him Sir Rust-a-Lot is hilarious. It's not just throwaway humour either, it's nice character interaction and is one of the best parts of the early sections of the game.

And I'm a big fan of Quina in FFIX - so he/she is not to everyone's liking, but I thought Quina's complete randomness (not to mention their obsession with food) was another good aspect of the game. And it's nice to have a FF character who isn't angsting once in a while!

I like Cid from FFVII as the comic relief because he always seemed to make me laugh. There was many parts in the game where he would just say something in his accent that would be so funny. I like him in the movie when he goes "Shaddap! You wan' off, then jump! Get off ma' back!"
Barret was another funny character in FFVII. Again, in the movie he had some memorable quotes. Just the way he talked was funny too. "Yo, it's Barret! What up, foo?" or "Yo Cid, park this turf!"

I'm going to say Yuffie as the comic relief character. It amused me how she acted so tough and then stole all my materia -__-

Most of the other "comic relief" characters just ended up annoying me. Steiner, Quina, Selphie, Rikku. Very very very annoying. Yuffie was the original "hyper girl" and I think she's great for that. She was also funny in AC.

I'd say my favourite comic relief came from Palom & Porom. Palom was always the more cocky and brash one when talking to others despite Porom's best attempts to make him sound more polite and formal, with it usually ending with her giving him a good smack or two.

Apart from them, i'm kinda stuggling to think of anyone who made me laugh. Possibly some of Rikku's comments in FFX, but other than that, nothing comes to mind.

Cid from FFVII was as funny as hell. It was the combination of the fact that he smoked a cigar, wore a pair of goggles on his head, had blonde spiky hair and professed at absolutely everything which made him so comically hilarious. And the way he treated Shera always made me laugh, shoving her around like some green turd and constantly ordering her to make him cups of tea. He would have probably been thrown in jail for domestic abuse if it wasn’t for the fact that Shera was such a pushover. I felt he lost some of his charisma in FFVII: Advent Children though, with his ridiculous Scottish accent. Clearly he was a nutcase, but that’s partly why he was so funny.

I'm going to have to go with Barret, Cid and Gilgamesh. With Barret and Cid it's just plain to read their dialog. Expecialy with all the "swearing". As for Gilgamesh it's just fun beating the crap out of hime and having him sulk of to "try" another day.

Top 2 have got to be Gilgamesh from FFV and Quina from FFIX.

Gilgamesh in FFV was awesome in his little dramatizing scenes as you're battling him and preparing to actually take on a hard boss in Ex-Death. Gilgamesh comes off as the tough guy, but he's the kinda guy who acts all tough and macho, and then trips on his own shoe-laces down a flight of steps.

Quina's defining comedic moment for me is when Regent Cid in FFIX is turned into an Oglop and Quina see's him for the first time on the Blue Narciss. Quina's think's he's a frog and needs restrained from eating the Regent.
