For you experienced FFVII players out there, is it possible to beat this game without using summons? I'm wondering because since I'm somewhat of a new player, I don't use my summons that often due to the fact they use a good bit of MP. I like to use single materia like lightning, fire, ice, ect. But as stated in the first sentence, is it possible to beat this game "without" using summons?
 
Its possible. Not Reccomened but possible.
Don't worry just level up regularly, pack ethers and you'll be fine if you use the summons.
 
Of course it is possible, it is possible even without magic, summons and with initial weapons ^_^. Try to beat FF7 without other party members (kill them in battle) 1 character chalange. Excepts are for battles like
Barret vs Dyne
where you need to use other chars than cloud.
 
I very rarely use summons. I find they tend to cost too much for the damage they cause, well the earlier ones anyways. I only use the later, more powerful summons to speed up the killing process, but I can easily finish them without if I had the patience.
 
It's very possible, yes, but I really recommend that you use them atleast once or twice, especially towards the end. Fighting against Emerald and Ruby can be a pain if you don't use summons...well, from my experience anyway. -_-'
 
If you're talking about just like random battles and such, I don't ever use summons, I just stick with dealing regular physical attacks and materia attacks. When it comes to some of the major bosses, I only use my summons when absolutely necessary.

If you go out onto the world map and just out there quite often and work on leveling up you can bring up your MP more and get a lot of gil to get ethers to keep your MP up. Also if you can, stock up on tents too. Whenever you're out on the world map you can save anywhere and you can use a tent which will completely replenish your party's HP and MP.

now if you said beat emerald and ruby without summons then it would be almost impossible
 
I am at the end of disc2 and I havn't used a summon once. But yeah..its possible.
 
Beating FFVII without summons is easily doable.
In fact I rarely ever use them when I play.
 
I sometimes use them. But yes, it is possible to complete this game without them, although it's not recommended. Summons are just an extra helping for the game.
 
I played through the game again a few months ago and I gathered all of the summons, but none of them were ever used enough to go past level 2, other than Phoenix - I deliberately trained her because I knew how difficult Sephiroth could be if he used SuperNova.
 
Yeah I would say its shoudnt be too hard at all except maybe the final boss depending on your lvl at least for the normal story line part. Ruby and Emerald would be nearly impossible without them. As for using them I did from time to time just for the sake of using them I didnt really have any trouble throughout the entire game though and I didnt use them that much really and I never had to use them when I did I just leveled up alot and did almost all my battles by just attacking.

o_O why?
I deafeted Emerald without summons...
and i deafeated ruby with 1 character (i used kotr+w-summon and healed with x-potions after his attacks) beacuse i thinked i must sacrafice 2 chars to beat him ^^. It was hard and long but he died.
 
I didn't use summons that much in VII. The most I used was Odin if I was in an area where the enemies were weaker and I didn't feel like fighting them. I used to use KOTR to fight emerald and ruby weapon but now I find it more fun to do it without using them.
 
It's possible to beat with game without summons, but if you want to do the sidequests such as fighting the 'weapons', tats gona b hard, especially against emerald
