Excalibur II on PAL

Hmm, I never read his guide, but if that's from it, I'd say it probably is true, then. That's really odd how Square would put that in there.

As for staying green, I mean stay green, don't hurt the environment, draining electricity for over two years just to get a weapon would be a perfect example of wasting power, hurting the environment, and not being green. And my font is green.

I've been browsing through the internet; GameFAQS, Youtube, etc, trying to find a guide for a speed run to get to Excalibur II during a speed run.
Every guide Ive found says it is impossible on a PAL version of the game due to the lower speed of the game (compared to the NTSC version). However, every guide Ive read is made for a perfect game, Excalibur II run not a speed run.
Im not really bothered about gaining every missable key item and keeping all characters except Zidane at Level 1. I just want to speed through the game and get the Excalibur II legitamately.

Surely Square couldn't create a game where us Europeans are unable to get the most powerful weapon on the game due to a technical error. Isn't that illegal or something? Yes, a perfect game - excalbur II run is impossible on the PAL version. However, that's just due to personal preference in getting every item. Square would not have considered the fact that people wanted every item (regardless of its use and stll getthe Excalibur II). But, I just want to get to Lich as fast as possible making the Excalibur II mine. Then I can go back and get mainly everything else.

So, is it possible?
Remember - speed run
If you use the bosses program faults to your advantage you should be able to cut off about an hour, but I only know that is true for the US version.

Actually, I was 18 minutes late :D I was really disappointed when I finally made to there and saw that I was late... Tried many times from saves near it and best I got was 11 minutes, when I played again from Terra. Anyway, I was pretty much doing a perfect run, but I know it's possible if you just speed run to there. A friend of mine did it with PAL version. Actually he was the reason I tried the challenge out at first :D

Ya, if you have the PAL version you're pretty much boned. It's not impossible. In the one speedrun I've seen, it was acquried in 8 hours, I think. It's just nearly impossible because the PAL version plays slower than the NSTC version but the in-game timer is regular speed. So you basically lose 10 minutes of unrecoverable time every hour of gameplay. So since you have to get to Memoria in 12 hours of gameplay to obtain the weapon, a 10 minute loss for every hour means you have to do it in 10 hours in the PAL version.

This entire run was done in 8 hours and 32 minutes. It is possible.

Cheers for that, dunno how I let that one slip :wacky:

It is possible on PAL, i've only accomplished it once though, basically you just have to skip all FMV's, fly through all the dialogue, doing do any mini-games or optional stuff and run from battles that will take too long.

Its a bitch though if a monster has an item you wants and you cant steal it because your doing a speed run.

But heh, it is possible.

It makes no sense that the PAL version would knock it down to 10 hours though. I mean I've seen Japanese people post videos on the 'net of them getting it in under 10 hours or so, but I thought the requirement for Excalibur II would be 12 hours time no matter what; even if you have a different version on a PSX or PS2.

Since it was pointed out though that you guys got screwed over on it though, you might as well look up any short-cuts you can and walkthroughs if you're still going to give this a try. Good luck nailing it at a harder time now.

Eh, let me see if I can explain it. If you were to take a minute, 60 seconds in real life. That is, for the purposes of this argument, a constant. There is no variation. Both the PAL and NTSC in-game clock keeps track of that minute exactly right. If you were to time your watch against the game clock, they would value a minute at exactly the same length of time. The problem is, the game plays slower in the PAL version because of a slower processor. As it turns out, it takes an extra ten second for every minute to do everything. So if the game tried to process "Job A" and "Job A" was suppose to take one minute... it would actually take one minute and ten seconds. That's how you lose the time.

Did that make sense?

Im glad somebody made this thread, I already have ePsx, never thought about downloading 9 since I had it on regular Playstation, but Im definitely downloading it now to get Excal II with it.

Thanks, you gays, uh, guys.

I ot it its extremely hard because you have to rely on tents on bosses no stealing almost no encounters the hard part is you have to enter memoria and beat all the bosses up to lich and get the excalibur 2 from the pillar all this in less than 12 hours my timings where disc 1 - 2h 25 n
disc 2 -5h 31 min
disc 3 -8h 55 min
excalibur 2 9h 28 min

I suppose its worth the try. To get the Excalibur II would be an achievement worth boasting about, wouldn't it?

Perhaps i might restart over again and give it a go.
