Well I'm not even sure where to tie those girls in. I think scene would better label their social class. Weedwhacker hair, forcibly skinny, too much makeup...
Back on my first point: Why do people care so much about what other people do? It seems that our fear for the unknown has achieved greater heights. Since we are not of the genre, we can only hate, punish, and insult those of it. Many people, if not all, int his thread despise them and rant them out. Yet have you really, like I said before, tried ignoring them? Seriously, it's really just pathetic to see a whole thread bashing an entire genre that is based off of music.
Final words:
Who fucking cares what they do. If they want to cut ad attempt at killing themselves, let them. One more out of the gene pool and one more to not complain about.
Yes, I hate them, but I tend to shrug it off and not make a big deal of it. Similar to Goths, Punks, Etc., Emos are just another fashion thing that seems to uproot. Oh, I do like some of the hairstyles, though. ;D
Actually it's not the unknown to me, since i used to be emo a year or so ago, although i never did listen to their craptasic music. And looking back, i can speak from experience that emo-ness is stupid, selfish, and repugnant.
And i complain, for one, because they're annoying and cry about trivial matters. Also, they made cutting cool (yes, it IS widespread among them, just look on myspace or vampire freaks or go to the mall), which is stupid in itself and now kids with real issues aren't taken seriously.
I never, ever see people show their scarred arms. They often try to hide it, due to the jerkoffs that tease them for it.
Wrong. It's a female disorder. Most guys don't do it. It's not like they do it everyday. it's just when you get depressed and you want to throw everything into the wind... I've been down this road before. You should be ashamed for believing in stereotypes. We're all a little emo when it comes to this type of person who is always being bashed.
Speaking of fail....
Actually, my senior project in a public policy class was on cutting. I'm not talking in stereotypes. I interviewed many kids who went to my school, cutters via the internet, and a psychiatrist from Four Winds (a local mental health institution). MANY MANY kids (who were classifiably *gasp* EMO) cut themselves and had cutting competitions with their friends. Many of the students interviewed told me that it was a bragging right to have cut the deepest. They also told me that they started cutting because their friends did it. Additionally, I hang around something called livejournalsecret, which is a place where livejournal users can anonymously submit secrets. It's common knowledge that a good portion of livejournal subscribers are self described emos....and a large portion of the secrets are about cutting. Many of them include pictures of the cuts on the person who submitted the secret and then some sort of text that makes it seem as though the person is PROUD of their cuts. As for people hiding their cuts, I have personally seen MANY people who show them off like they're war metals. It's sickening.
As for the whole "it's a female disorder" thing.....you clearly have been misinformed. I personally knew a male who cut himself. Additionally, I asked the psychologist about the gender of cutters. She said that while more females than males cut themselves, a significant number of males DO cut. She told me that in her experience, males tend to prefer burning themselves to cutting. But cutting is NOT a female disorder.
If you actually pay attention to what I wrote, you'll notice that I rip on the emos who made cutting "cool" and "trendy." I know that cutting is a very terrible disorder, and I didn't, in any way, insinuate that anyone who cuts themselves is "emo." I was referring to the emodouches who cut themselves, take pictures of it, and put it all over their myspace. It completely undermines the seriousness of the disorder, and as I said, makes it harder for people who are actually suffering from some kind of disorder to seek help because they may be labeled "emo" or "an attention whore."

I really don't see any of these "emodouches" as you described with their pictures of cut wrists and arms on MySpace. If they ever posted up pictures, I'm sure they were deleted. And this is another thing you can do to help MySpace: Just report the sickening pictures you see. It's not that hard. Just two clicks and an explanation away.If you actually pay attention to what I wrote, you'll notice that I rip on the emos who made cutting "cool" and "trendy." Vengeful Ronin said:I think it was...Derek, although it may have been Honest Albel...who in a previous post said that emos hide their cuts. So not true. It's people who actually have the cutting disorder who hide them. I hid mine. Emos brandish them proudly on their forearms and wrists and make them visible for the whole school and internets to see.
the only thing they do that bothers me really, is when they walk around school with headphones not even on their head, and they're blasting their headbanger music so loud that the whole school's having a headbanger party.
how obnoxious.
