This week, it was End of Eternity from frequent Square Enix partner tri-Ace versus Dragon Quest VI from Square Enix itself. It looks like Dragon Quest VI won.

Square Enix announced today that shipments for DQVI have topped the one million mark. The game was released on Thursday.

Dragon Quest VI is a DS remake of the third Super Famicom Dragon Quest game. For this first ever remake of the title, Square Enix has added a few new systems, wireless functionality, and a Slime-themed curling mini game.

The million shipped feat shouldn't come as a surprise, considering the DS remakes of DQIV and V, predecessors in a trilogy of titles that ends with VI, both easily topped the million sold mark.

Between this and End of Eternity/Resonance Of Fate, it was rather obvious that a DS remake of one of the most popular installments of one of the most enormously successful franchises in Japan would beat a console RPG with a virtually unknown IP. In other words, I am not surprised at all.

Both DQVI and Resonance Of Fate interest me that I'll no doubt end up purchasing both. I don't know how Japan handles the release of so many of these big name RPG games in these past few months. They have plenty to play, and now for us, we're having to wait for the goods to arrive.

Hm... haven't heard of Resonance of Fate before. Looks interesting now that I saw it. Does anyone know if it's actually supposed to be good?

Also, wikipedia says the NA date is March 9th, while everyone else seems to say Q3. I would assume it's March 9th, because it can't take 7 months to translate a game (although that would put it against FFXIII)... but which is right?

Assuming that Wikipedia is telling some truth here, that would mean Resonance Of Fate is up against Final Fantasy XIII, which isn't the wisest plan ever coming from Tri-Ace.

Hopefully SE would never make mistakes or stupid decisions such as this. Nowadays they tend to plan extensively when to release big titles to avoid clashes to maximise on sales. That is why when DQIX was about to come out in Japan, DQVI took a back-seat until now.

It's good to see that this game is selling so well. It was up against a game that I did not know, so I can't comment on that, but it's nice to see that the game is being well received. Makes me want to buy the game so many people want ^_^

^^ that's what I was thinking how do they do it? Japan get's all the good stuff first and I don't like waiting :mokken: Both games look pretty neat from what i've seen/heard. Can't wait until it comes out over here ^_^ DQ series are good so it's great news to hear that it's selling well. Happy for them =)

I'm not really surprised, DQIX ended up selling over 4.5million and a few million in a week or two so it set a platform for DQVI really. There's also the fact that DQ is arguably one of the best DS games available. :ryan:

Some slight sales update

Let me update this thread as there's probably no point making a new one when it's so similar.

According to Enterbrain, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie sold 909,981 units in its first week and that makes it the top selling Dragon Quest remake on the Nintendo DS.

Media Create data notes
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen sold 597,000 copies its first week and fan-favorite Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride moved 644,000 copies. While these numbers are from a different source, Dragon Quest VI is clearly outpacing the other games in the Zenithia trilogy.

Perhaps, this is because this
Dragon Quest VI remake is the only Dragon Quest VI remake. Dragon Quest V was re-released on the PlayStation 2 and Dragon Quest IV is also available on the PsOne.
