Dunno if this has being covered before

Does anyone see the similarities.

Zidane sent to earth/gaia (wateva it was called) to start the flow of souls
Goku sent to earth to destroy its life

both have tails

When they become enraged they go into trance/SSJ and Zidanes trance resembles SSJ4 from the GT series.

Both have older brothers who follow them to earth and engage in combat.

Both dont know their true purpose and live and have familys with earth.

Well you're inital analysis is pretty good, but how does Zidane in trance mode resemble Son Goku in super saiyajin 4 state?

And i don't think Son Goku ever questioned his purpose, he just lived his live in the forest without questioning anything, even when Raditz appears he still considers himself a earthling only by the Freeza saga does he think of himself as a saiyajin and even then i don't recall him questioning himself.

Hey i never thought of that before, i guess some things are quite similar. How did you ever notice that?

Zidane's tail naturally reminded me of Goku. But aside from that, I never tried to compare FFIX and Dragonball Z. I can clearly see similarities with the whole Zidane getting sent to Gaia thing and the comparisons between Kuja and Raditz. I had never thought about any of that before, but I can definately see the similarities.

I don't think the trance/SS4 is anything special though.

I guess that can be compared with Zidane going to Terra when he learns more about his true purpose then.
But yeah it affected Zidane more than it affected Goku. Goku was more concerned with the way Vegeta had been used and manipulated by Freiza than himself.

Yeah there is a comparison, its not a dread up recopy and slapped FF on it, but there are influences which are neat. I guess you could say Quina's appetite could have been inspired from Goku's

Well Son Goku wanted to avenge Vegeta and the other saiyajins, nameks and everyone Freeza destroyed, he also wanted to test himself. So in terms of purpose he as nothing to do with Zidane.

Well, the Dragon Ball story is partly based off the Legend of the Monkey King, and since Zidane is a monkey boy it would not be too farfetched that they pulled the idea from the same source. It is a well-known story in Asia.

I actually have trouble coming up with a good Western example or analogy... I guess it's kind of like with Superman, Neo from the Matrix or even Harry Potter. They're all messiah-like figures, so those in a more Western society would be like "Oh, biblical parallelz." It doesn't necessarily mean each story mean to mirror eachother, but share ideas from a common source so there may be some unintentional similarities.

Dragon Ball is based off Jounry to the west/Monkey king etc.

I was refering to DRAGON BALL Z where the whole Sayian thing comes into light. DBZ took more of a SCI-FI aspect on things and then back to the mystical magic bollocks at the back end.

And Zidanes trance does resemble SSJ4 as his whole body become covered in pink fur. I didnt say it was exactly the same, but its definatly simlar (even tho DBGT sucked)

And i didnt say Goku doubted his true purpose...I said he didnt know it, as in he was UNAWARE and ignorant to the universe away from earth until the events off DBZ.

They actually do look pretty similar, I think. Who knows, Square's worked with Akira Toriyama before. Maybe they drew some inspiration from his ultimate work. Though I think the SSJ4 form didn't come until DBGT, which Toriyama didn't have much involved in... but that's sort of besides the point :monster:

Toriyama did not play a role in the creation of DBGT, and DBGT is not considered cannon.

Son Goku is the protector of heart basically it's what he grows up to become and while at a point Zidane doubted himself and needed his friends to recover, Son Goku never had an identity crisis and so i can see resemblences in terms of a few similar trademarks but besides that, i don't think they even look a like although it would be interesting to see Son Goku covered in pink fur too.

I never connected Goku to Zidane at all but what you've pointed out makes sense I admit. But it isn't so far fetched to play games based on other stuff. I think people say FFIV is based off of Star Wars or something.

And off topic: I knew Toriyama didn't wok on DBGT, but DBGT isn't considered canon at all by officials? I never knew that o_O

Since it takes place after Z, from what I understood, there weren't any discrepancies to the first 2 series, so is it because it wasn't done exclusively by him that it is disregarded?

DBGT as as much worth value as a movie, except in the movie Toriyama gave some ideas and designed the characters, the official ending of Dragon Ball is the one you see in the Kanzenban manga with Son Goku flying away with Uub.

DBGT sucked majar balls. Goku went from pretty much the hardest thing in all 4 galaxies, to a lil fag who got PWND by really weak ass enemies.

Still I never said Goku ever doubted his meaning or past. He just NEVER KNEW IT. It was like a folk in the road. One side would of being his original mission to clear the earth of life. Or the other side where he loses his memory and is brought up by Gohan to become protector of the world
