'Be not deceived; God is not mocked, for wahtever a man sows, he will also reap'

I believe this was in Ephesians or specifically Ephesians 5:8, I could be wrong but nevertheless that is a part of my point. Recently, I got an email forwarded to me by a friend who not only told me instances they were individuals who not only mocked God but suffered greatly for it. I know that verse contains multiple meanings to it such as 'whatever you sow, you will reap' or 'what goes around, comes around' but the people who died in horrible ways are kind of examples of this concept especially when you consider the Titanic where millions have died as say this with the highest arrogance, "Not even God can sink this ship'. I know to fear God that is to respect and give reverance to Him but do you believe that God takes thing too personally?

I mean that if we collectively said that God cannot destroy the forums, wouldn't be God's irony if the forums had closed down? I would think so especially when you consider said verse where it states, 'whatever you will sow, you also reap' but do we need that afraid of what God might do to us if we do or say a certain thing wrong? I prefer to think of God as a personal Friend of mine who I can talk all the time and who always be there when I am in danger but our relationship is 'You don't have to be a afraid of Me, just respect Me' but the God that left those individual to those devices where they perished in horrible ways just for saying things with the highest seems kind of cruel. I hope not experience this in my lifetime or suffer an untimely death but still is God that cruel enough to do such things or is this whole just conveniently matched coinicidences that the people died? I hope to understand better from other Christians or from any other religions perspective.

I can't argue. I don't agree though. It is very possible that the words you speak are true. It's also equally possible they are false. Maybe this very room im in is a work of his power over us. Maybe he was just manifested so people would have something to believe in. I cannot say if he exists or he doesn't. It's not my place. But i do think that karma is real to a degree. Not so much the extent that people will die horrible deaths, but more along the lines of cheating and such.

The stories are cute, but they're not verifiable. There's the one where a college professor (which college/class depends on which version of the story you hear) says that he can prove God doesn't exist by dropping a piece of chalk to the floor and challenging God to intervene. Then, of course, the chalk falls just so, landing in the cuff of the professor's pants, preventing it from hitting the floor.

In the same vein, the Titanic didn't sink because of them taunting God, it sank because it hit an iceberg. Trying to put the blame on a vengeful God is ad hoc reasoning.

The Old Testament God was vengeful, as evidenced by Sodom and Gomorrah and Noah's flood. The New Testament is a supposedly and kinder, gentler God. I guess having a son changes even deities. (Kidding)

Okies. Kinda believe that God takes away things that are dangerous or possibly soul-consuming to us in a spiritual way/ manner of speaking. If we are greedy or arrogant about something do believe that God will step in and take away the thing/ something that is making us egoistical. The Tower of Babel is a good example. People created a tower so they could reach the heavens and feel mighty and powerful about it. God stepped in and crushed the Babel tower and punished everybody by making a confusion between communication so people couldn't relate or be close to certain people anymore.
[ creating different languages. The opening of different spoken languages. ]

The Titanic example could be a good one. The people were over-mighty of the power of the ship and somewhat arrogant in it's grace. So maybe God did swipe away the ship because of the high- respect for the man-made vessel. However can't say much because A) wasn't there at the time and B) Only seen the 1997 movie and haven't studied facts on it much.

During Church a few weeks ago. One person shared a story how he felt proud of having a chance of meeting the Queen of England in person. He shared to everybody, how overally proud he felt and showed up everybody and thought that he was the King of the world. Then a few weeks later he got a letter saying the Queen was ill and couldn't make the visit. XD

Maybe. Think that God does care for us and that he does take away things that would make him frustrated or worried about his own beloved creations. But usually because of him giving all humans '' Free- Will '. He wouldn't interfere or step in much too often.

But again, that's ad hoc thinking. Just because it happened afterwards doesn't mean there's a correlation between the two events. The Queen is 273 years old. That's probably why she got sick. Not because some dude in America was happy to see her. And I'm sure he wasn't the only one who was supposed to see her that day. I find it hard to believe that God would punish everyone for one man's minor transgression.

God is fair...to me i think God is fair...he gives us free will to choose our paths..i dont think god is vengeful upon people that much..but he does justify those who are very wicked inside..and who are too proud..none of us are pure, but God loves us all, lets just remember that and give him thanks for everything he does for us

Well I believe in "god" per se but not Jesus. I'll only account for my life being blessed by experience and nurtured me through some of the roughest times. I have learned a great deal from people. I give thanks, but I never pray for help. It is up to you to dig yourself out of the trench.

Mock God? I don't think it cares. A good person is not judged by worshiping, he/she is judged through his/her actions in life. If you sit there and do the same bad shit your entire life, well karma will kick your ass. If you are doing good will towards man, you deserve the best, but hopefully you are humble and don't rape the system. Again.. Pay it forward.

I don't believe in an afterlife per se, but then again no one is right or wrong. It is all speculation.

I hate when people wave their fist up to the Heavens when things instantly go wrong. They never count their freakin blessings. I could be homeless tomorrow and I believe I'll diserve it.

It is just how it is. Mock it? Who cares.

In all honesty this topic is rather stupid. When children die, did they get what they "deserve?" Did they lead a "bad" life so at the age of a few months they cannot survive their chemo treatments and cancer kills them?

The bible was written by Man, nothing greater than Man.

I'm a firm believer that our deaths are written into our genetic coding. Life events bring out malicious coding which is why we get sick. Sometimes it's treatable, but you need to have the medical attention, the will, the personality, and the faith (in yourself) to live.

Translation:
If you're religious, God gives us the tools to survive but you need to work with him because he's not going to save you alone.

It doesn't make any sense to me at all. It was said that even god couldn't sink the ship, so everyone on it deserved to die? Just because of a claim made about the ship? If there is a god, then it isn't our friend and it is cruel.
Respect and fear do not go hand in hand.

One thing I want to point out about your Titanic example: the first time the Titanic was referred to as 'unsinkable' in the media was April 16th, 1912 -- the day after it sank. Certainly no one was talking about how God himself couldn't sink the boat before then. But even if people had, how would you explain the Olympic? The Olympic was Titanic's sister ship, here's a picture of them together:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0f/Olympic_titanic.jpg

Can you tell which is which? The Olympic was actually launched nearly a year before the Titanic, and whatever might have been said about the Titanic was probably applied to the Olympic at one point or another. It went on to have a 25 year long carrier on the sea, including being converted to a warship for World War I, and was eventually given the nickname Old Reliable.

If God sank one in releasing his wrath, why let the other have a long and glorious run at sea? Doesn't make any sense at all. But the fact is, bad things happen. To everyone, for a variety of reasons. Just because it happens doesn't mean God is responsible. It means that something bad happened, and that we should strive to make sure it doesn't happen again. Nothing more.

The New Testament is a supposedly and kinder, gentler God.
Probably because they deemed the old testament TOO HARSH so they dumbed things down a little bit by taking out everything they didn't like. :P

Anyway, I think I understand what's being asked. I think the reason I refuse to bow down to a God is because I'm expected to fear him and be his minion. It's my life. I'm not going to spend my whole life bowing down to something that's probably not even real, restricting myself from doing things I could be enjoying. I hate the concept of God, I hate the concept of being a peon of someone/something.

I believe in god but... I don't believe punishment begins until after judgement day. Neither do I believe he would leave you in hell permanently. Well to clarify on my opinion on how people are "punished" on this earth by using an example.

Me and my brother were still brats watching one of those imported Japanese horror films where the bad guy is a little pasty kid with long straight black hair. After we had finished watching that was fresh in our minds as we were to head off to bed. But before we had gotten up we noticed a garbage bag next to a pillowcase. And with it being nighttime and all the lights being out we misperceived it. The black garbage bag seemed like hair to us no matter how much of a garbage bag gloss we saw on it. The pillowcase looked like a dress the girl was wearing despite she wore all white and the pillowcase had a floral print. And thus we never left the couch till morning falling asleep next to each other and enduring gay jpkes for about 3 days.

To make a long story short an outside influence can affect perception. And this altered perception can lead to a misinterpretation and ignorance of important details.

How does that relate to being punished by a god on earth? That's just... the human mind. Seeing things.

Personally, I kinda of believe in predetermination over free will. What I mean by this is that all things that have yet to occur can not be avoided, as in history is set in stone. I feel that your fate is sealed no matter what you do, you just have to live through the choices already made for you. The only reason why we believe we have free choice is that it is a seamless illusion. It is such a perfect illusion in fact that it is impossible to distinguish between fate and free will.
