Dissidia Storyline
Only small details in regard to Dissidia's plot have been revealed since Square Enix Party 2007. In Dissidia, characters from their respective Final Fantasy games are summoned by the the two beings shown in the logo. Cosmos, Goddess of Order, summons heroes to repel the forces of Chaos that have plagued and overtaken Dissidia's universe. Chaos, not to be outdone, has enlisted the aid of villians from the multiple Final Fantasy games. Dissidia is Latin for "to disagree", and is indicative of the game's heroes and villians in conflict. While the creators are trying to include as many memorable characters as they can, it is said that ten heroes and ten villians may appear. In information obtained from Tokyo Game Show 2007, it was said that the world was made twelve times, and was about to be remade for the thirteenth.

Dissidia Gameplay

Straight from the horse's mouth, Square-Enix describes Dissidia : Final Fantasy to be a "dramatic progressive action" title. One could say "dramatic" for the dramatic way the battles transpire, with dialogue and cutscenes interweaved within bouts of gameplay. "Progressive" in that characters will be able to gain experience and levels based on performance in combat. And finally, "Action" to summarize that the game will feature a brawler-esque battle system in which characters have movesets to unleash upon an enemy or enemies. Brawls will take place in fully three-dimensional and destructible envrionments. Players will also be able to buy equipment ( probably with Gil ) to further customize and upgrade their character. Some battle mechanics include: a "HIT POINT" meter we assume for HP or health, a BRAVE meter which is still somewhat of a mystery, and a short and close range toggle which may expand available movesets to accomodate said factors.
Control Schema:
L | Lock On
R | Guard
R + Cross | Dodge
Pad | Camera
Stick | Movement
Triangle | Action
Circle | BRAVE Attack
Cross | Jump
Square | HP Attack / EX Burst
Square + Cross | EX Mode
Notes : Lock On can be toggled on and off with the L button. Holding R down will guard, and pressing X will make the character dodge to evade attacks. The D-Pad will control the camera whilst the Stick is reserved for character movement. Unknown if these can be switched at this time. Triangle is Action, to execute an interactive action like wall-running or environment manipulation. This can only be executed at certain spots with an icon. Circle is a BRAVE attack, which if it connects, will reduce an enemy's BRAVE. Cross ( or X ) is jump. Square is a standard attack that drains HP, and will execute an EX Burst if the character is in EX Mode. Square and cross buttons together enters a character into EX Mode. It is assumed that in this state, powerful "limit" maneuvers can be executed.

Square Enix has updated the official website of Dissidia Final Fantasy and released brand new gameplay footage which was shown at DKS3713. The footage is actually a battle between Tidus and Jecht, I personally enjoyed it.

- Go to: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dissidia/

Please note that in order to watch the trailer you must wait for the website to load, click on the "MOVIE" button (second from the right) and then choose the movie on the right.

Both of the videos have been very good, I would buy a PSP for this if the final product raised the bar even further. I'd say the more gameplay I watch, the better my chances.

I hope more characters from x or xii come ashe would be cool.

Only one Hero and One Villain from Final Fantasy I to X will join Dissidia, most of the characters are already confirmed. FFXII characters won't enter the cast, so, Ashe, Vaan or any other character won't appear.

Off-topic:
Wow, i didn't expect to see LittleDragonZ here!!
Long live KW :D

Actually, I'm pretty sure they've said that there'd be more than 20 characters...Whether these will be unlockable characters or perhaps just cameos, we still don't know...And I believe there was someone who opened up the Dissidia website or something like that & said that there were sections for FFs past X...idk what to make of that, though...*shrugs*...we'll see when we see, I suppose...

*Cough* Taken from Wiki -> "There will be a minimum of twenty playable characters, and hidden characters are a possibility"

There is only 20 confirmed characters from Final Fantasy from 1 to 10, 10 Heroes and 10 Villains = 20. However there is also the two gods, Cosmos Goddess of Light and Chaos God of death, not sure if they are playable characters or not.

Yes there is a possibility of having secret characters, however until now only these are the confirmed ones, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissidia:_Final_Fantasy

Except for Ex-Death, all of them are shown in trailers, Golbez and Cecil are shown only in Scans provided by Famitsu > http://www.gamekyo.com/news29009_onion-knight-s-habille-en-lunes-dans-dissidia-final-fantasy.html

I posted in the other Dissidia thread and realised I should probably post it in here too as it will be more relevant here.. So here it is...

I'm partying now that Terra is confirmed. It was suggested from the last trailer, but seeing it for definate is great.

They've gone for Amano's blonde hair look, which I'm not against. It'll be ace if you could have her green hair in an alternate costume, just as Luneth is to be the alt costume for Onion Knight.

So... Now that we have all characters confirmed, all we wait for now is what the alternate costumes may look like!

Some possible costumes they may do?

Bartz = white haired? Like seen in the opening movies of the Playstation version.
Cloud = Zack? A possibility, all it needs is a hair change.
Squall = Seifer? Not likely as it would require a lot more than just a colour swap, but I guess it could work on a functional level.
Sephiroth = Shirtless Sephiroth? I think such a version exists at the very end when Cloud Omnislashes his ass.

We're not sure if they're going to do alternate costumes for all the characters though, I don't know what their plan is, but these seem reasonable suggestions. Can't think of anything for most characters though so it's pretty difficult to think of alternate costumes that aren't just random colour swaps for characters like Kuja, Tidus, etc.

Also...

I guess we should also look to what transformations characters may undergo?

Such as Sephiroth into Safer One-Winged-Sephiroth?
Kefka into God-Kefka?
Ex-Death into tree of terror?! (lol, I don't know the name.. Oh yeah, Neo Ex-Death I think).
Terra into Esper form? (Very likely, and I can't wait!)

Hmmm. You say there may be more than the 20 characters confirmed?
A few secrets? That would be.. AWESOME... A couple more heroes and villains here and there? Faris, Red XIII, Sabin, Ultros? Ha. Unlikely though, but the more the better!

Gah, I dream about this game too much...

25 arenas? Fantastic! Most fighting games don't have that many! Oooooo... Not until I heard the dreaded words "Dissidia" for the first time a few years ago did I understand how one could possibly die with excitement.. I hope I survive to actually get the game... Every new peice of news and I almost can't breathe for 10 minutes!

25 arenas... Sort of confirms what you were saying earlier Ruka, about the possibility of there being 2 for each game... Possibly even 1 for the hero, one for the villain. Add a few "new" arenas, and then the ones for the secret characters and you can make 25 with that.

Which may show... I could have sworn I saw Terra in Narshe in one of the scans, but what I thought was whitey snow may have actually been the white floor of the FF3 arena (where the other scans surrounding it were).... But who knows.

Lol, your going crazy about this game. xD
Yeah your correct Terra is on Narshe, its on the scan with her green hair!
Yes, I also said that, its probably one arena for each Hero and Villain.

Some Suggestions:
Terra - Narshe or Esper Cave. (don't forget the Esper Cave is shown on the first trailer, or its a similiar place)
Squall - Balamb garden
Zidane - Terra
Cloud - Nibelheim

Also, don't forget one Arena for Chaos and other for Cosmos, or a single stage for both.

The first trailer for Dissidia had the tagline "There are 12 worlds...and the 13th is about to be revealed." The meaning of this line has not yet been explained, although it may refer to Final Fantasy XIII.

Which might means there might be more characters until XIII!? (Noctis and Lighting as secret characters?) :wacky:

And this is also very important:

The story will unfold both outside, and in the middle of battles, marking a unique style of story telling. At first, only the ten heroes will be playable, but as players play the game and earn "PP", they can use PP to buy alternate costumes and to access the villains. To see the "true" ending of the game, one will have to complete the game with all twenty characters. It has been hinted that, although the playable cast consists of ten villains and ten heroes, they may not all be on the same side - heroes and villains have been seen fighting amongst themselves in trailers on several occasions. It has also been indicated that some characters have their own agendas beyond the Crystals; several heroes and villains have been shown together frequently in trailers, hinting that they may be working together.

Squall - Balamb garden
Zidane - Terra
Cloud - Nibelheim

Not bad suggestions... What trailer is Esper Cave shown in?
As for Balamb, that would be great. It would probably be more likely the training room that would be used as the battle arena.
Nibelheim or Midgar would be the best bets for Cloud. Nibelheim will be more suited for his story I guess.. But Midgar would be pretty fun to play in as well.

As for FF4 and FF5...
I would like to see....
FF4 - Giant of Babil! Or... ON the Lunar Whale! Ha ha ha! *calms down*
FF5 - Ex-Death's manky flesh castle... Seeing those weird freaky faces on the walls, all breathing, and the whole castle practically moving and breathing.. Disgusting.. But brilliant :D.
Other than that... Big Bridge for FF5 would be sweet. Along with a nice new playable character, Gilgamesh, would be sweeter!

So you unlock the villains as you go through the game? So wait a second.. Doesn't that mean that the villains are all secret characters as well? Or does that mean soemthing really hard and extra has to be done to get the secret characters we know they are going to include (Shantotto)?

not much is shown but I could swear, that the place looks exactly like the Esper Cave, the dark sky, the mountains and the bridge. The place is very familiar to it, but then again it can be a place for just an short FMV.

It means, in order to unlock your antagonist, you need to complete the story with that same Hero and use your earned "PP" to unlock Alternate Costumes, Equipment, Accesories, Characters etc...

That means that some characters don't follow the Good V.S Evil, instead they fight for what they believe and refuse to protect the Crystal or think they are misguided by Cosmos, while others fully support Cosmos, thus a war will start among Heroes, And some Villains will also be power-hunger like they had always being in their respective FF.

I tell you, there is more to it than it first looks, IF the Crystal is Destroyed Chaos might be the only one benefecial, and what will happen to his "Followers" when he achieves his objective? ...exactly, all destroyed!

And we never know if there is something or someone between the Crystal, as far as I remember Necron was supposed to appear when the Crystal in FFIX was destroyed.

Also, take note that Noctis is also the last keeper of the Crystal (any connection with this one?)...his appearence might be a possibility.

Thats just my theory from what I have read and watched so far.
