Fan Fiction Dissidia 012 Discussion

That Quistis was modded off of Squall lol

Quistis would have been nice, but I like Laguna. Only one that could have done better, would have been Irvine :33

This world map thing's looking a lot cooler. It reminds of an action-RPG (which Dissidia kind of is, lol). So it's gonna replace that board with a less strategic open world, eh? :hmmm:

Also, is anyone else's head starting to hurt when thinking about Laguna? If it was any other game company, I could just pass off Laguna's presence as a mere cameo for the sake of appeasing fans, but c'mon, it's Square-Enix. Even if it's half-assed and full of retconning, there has to be an actual reason xD

What's got my head dizzy is that Duodecim is the prequel game and it's more or less assumed that these "new" characters had fallen in Duodecim, therefore explaining their absence in Dissidia. Now if Laguna had "fallen", the question is how the feck is Squall alive?

(Of course this just opens up how at what precise moment in time Laguna got pulled from his world. Maybe he already got Raine pregnant, or maybe he never met her yet.)

Maybe the time paradox in the Dissidia is an omage to FFVIII time screwiness xD

Also, I still don't quite believe characters falling, at least the Cosmos ones, means death; just defeat and the a fore mentioned loss of memories.

As for the FF1 world map, with the way Dissidia ended, I think that makes sense, right? I mean, WoL
wasn't teleported anywhere like everyone else. He just stayed put and went ahead to what appeared to be Cornelia and thus the beginning of FF1 and also suggests the Dissidia world takes place, somehow, in the FF1 world
o_O

...Right, I know, I'm thinking too much about this. But it's more interesting than I thought it would be :ness:

According to FF Reunion Laguna's Japanese Voice Actor will be Hirata Hiroaki. Apparently Final Fantasy III has a new stage in the Crystal Tower.

Edit: Here are 2 new scans revealing Squall, Ultimecia, Cloud of Darkness and Onion Knight's 3P Alternative Custom.

asdfghjkl sleeveless Squall ♥

And lol at the Edea outfit, but it does make sense. People keep forgetting that while it was Edea's body doing all the evil sorceress stuff back in FFVIII, it was still Ultimecia pulling the strings with her mind control and what not. Edea's outfit as a Matron pretty much tipped off how different she is :lew:

Although I wonder how feasible that's gonna look in combat; Ultimecia's outfit, while considerably revealing, at least allowed that mobility.

EDIT: As for an English VA for Laguna, okay, I dunno why, but I keep imagining Reuben Langdon. I know, I know! "Wtf, Dante?" but it seems okay >.<

Famitsu has a big spread on Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy this week, providing a more in depth look at all the recent Jump reveals, including Laguna Loire and the world map system. The magazine also got the latest character costume details and even unearthed a new stage.

Final Fantasy VIII's Laguna is described by battle director Takeo Kujiraoka as a "Tactical Gunner." Players must use of a variety of guns, making use of what Kujiraoka referred to as "tricky attacks." His style is to fight strategically, attempting to get behind his opponent for instance.

Laguna makes use of a variety of weapons for his Brave Attacks. By holding down the attack button, you can make these attacks change properties. For instance, hold down the attack button when using a machine gun and you'll get repeat fire. Hold down the button when using a shot gun, and your bullets will fire out as a bunch, leading to a more powerful attack.

Regarding the machine gun, Kujiraoka likens the control feel to a TPS (third person shooter). The gun fires automatically as you hold the attack button down, and you're free to run around with the analogue pad.

Laguna's sniper rifle looks like it will play into the tricky side of the character. Bullets from the rifle ricochet off walls. You can use this trait to aim down at the ground in order to take out enemies above you.

Both the rifle and rocket launcher allow you to freely aim with the analogue pad. The rocking launcher uses homing bullets.

When using grenades, the distance Laguna tosses the grenade is determined by the number of times you press the attack button before firing.

Laguna's HP attacks use a weapon themed around the Ragnarok ship that appeared in Final Fantasy VIII. His EX Burst move is called "Ultimate Ragnarok Canon and is based off his "Desperado" limit break from FFVIII.

Famitsu shows Laguna in two of his three costumes: his standard outfit and, as his "Another Form" outfit, army clothing from his days as a Galbadian soldier. Screenshots show Laguna getting into event scenes with a number of characters, most notably fellow FFVIIIer Squall.

Laguna is the main character reveal this week, but Famitsu also has new looks at Squall, Ultimecia, Onion Knight and Cloud of Darkness.

These characters have new attacks. Squall has "Fire Ballet," a new Brave Attack which sends multiple fire blasts chasing after the enemy. Ultimecia has Knight's Sphere, a new Brave Attack that pierces an enemy in front for her with a giant sphere. Onion Knight has a new skill called "Power Up," which increases stats such as critical, physical attack and physical defense.

The four characters' Third Form costumes are shown for the first time. Squall's is based off a Yoshitaka Amano design, making him sleeveless and somewhat wild looking. Ultimecia's third form turns her into the Sorceress Edea, also from FFVIII. Onion Knight's third form is based off his Amano illustration. Cloud of Darkness sees some coloring and design changes.

Joining the new character details, Famitsu introduces a new battle map, Final Fantasy III's Crystal Tower. According to Kujiraoka, the staff wanted to have a different type of background for this setting, so they decided to place the fight on the outside of the tower. The map is flat, but there's a giant tower in the middle. You can climb the tower to a certain extent, allowing you to see the background into the distance.

Moving on to the World Map that was recently revealed in Jump, Famitsu confirms that this is the game's new story mode. It replaces the chess board-like system from the original with a full 3D map.

Screenshots make this truly look like an RPG. You can see all three characters in your party on the field. You can actually talk to these characters, potentially gaining hints.

One screen shows Lightning, Tifa and Laguna engaged in conversation, presented with RPG-like dialogue boxes. Tifa says "Just like Vaan said, I get the feeling that they're increasing."

The "they" in Tifa's comment is in reference to the "Imitation," the name for the enemies you encounter roaming about the world map. When attacked by the enemy, or when you attack the enemy, you'll be transported to a battle map for combat.

Story mode planning director Shouta Shimoda shared a few additional details on the mode with Famitsu.

Shimoda describes the mode as being greatly advanced over the story mode found in the original Dissidia. Players will be able to experience a story while exploring the world, taking in new scenarios and events.

"The setting is 'a world that once had towns,' so there are no towns," explained Shimoda. However, there will be "special" shops. These are indicated by special markers on the map.

The story mode is party based. Your party will sometimes be set in advance as part of the scenario of the current chapter. Other chapters will allow you to freely set your party. Shimoda suggested picturing something like Final Fantasy VI.

More details on Duodecim will be coming shortly. Famitsu says that a new trailer to be shown at this weekend's Jump Festa will have new info. Additionally, Famitsu will have a big staff interview in next week's issue.

Translation of this blog, I see some of these not covered in andriasang's page.

Ultimecia's new Brave attack: "Knight's
Spear". Summon a large spear that pierces enemy in front. Holding the button will make the spear aim upward. The attack will stay on the field for a while.

Onion Knight's new move: "Power Up". Increase stats such as Physical attack, Physical defense, Critical rate. Magical stats seems to be increased as well.

===========================================

Laguna:
Holding down the button will change the properties of Brave attacks:
Machine gun > rapid fire
Shotgun > concentrate shot (bullets less spread out) = increase hit + guard break
Sniper rifle > ricochet off walls more times
Grenades > adjust toss distance

Has a weapon called Shell Bomb. When tossed on the ground, will create an electro-magnetic barrier that would reflect enemy's Brave attack. Enemy will get hit too when touching the barrier.

HP attacks: the airship Ragnarok's blade, laser.

Rocket Launcher: free aim + homing = shoot at an angle can make the missiles go around corners

Grenades: repeat clicks and button holding will adjust the grenade toss distance in two different ways. Opponent will have a harder time to predict.

Has a type of bomb that: hit/touch > explode after a period of time (Sticky bomb??)

===========================

Story mode: world map
Attack enemy on the map > starts a battle with advantage on your side
Attacked by enemy on the map > starts a battle with advantage on enemy side

I like Onion Knight and Cloud Of Darkness' alts. And the Story Mode is sounding really interesting. :3

@Fusionist: I actually think Reuben Langdon would be a good match as Laguna's english VA.

I must say I am loving the new world map as you walk on it as your character unlike Dissidia I where you were just a statue and it played a little like a board game. Also there were rumors of new character reveals around this time... but I guess those were just rumors... :hmmm: All these new features are great and I hope more comes soon. New characters is what I am waiting for.. Ultimecia as Edea kinda makes sense... I just hope we get to see Beatrix as a playable character then.

I thought they'd be revealing something big on the 18th ever since I half-translated that text in the scan that first revealed Laguna.
As for what it is, I have absolutely no idea, save for the belief that it'll be a Chaos guy - Maybe Zemus, a chance it could be a minion from the original, possibly the second Garland from FF9, could be Seymour or a Shadowlord... at this point, I don't really know what to expect.

Clues might be found from the kanji... a tutor, a departure of the second nature and the most mysterious "VJ2"...
Yeah, I got nothing.

If the next character will be revealed on January 18, it'll be later than they announced the last few characters (around the beginning of the month). Maybe they're announce more than one character then? ;D

And Laguna was pretty damn unexpected. so I really don't know what's suppose to top his reveal :lew:

I'm assuming there should be some kind of logic in the choice. Like, from a game that hasn't had a new character yet, yeah?

Why does Squall look like a stripper? :hmmm:

:griin:

Also, I want to say I hope it's Aerith, just to see her in different attire, but more so, I'd rather not have her there. Can't say I'd like fans making Cloud(or anyone else) beat the crap out of her. :wacky:

About the new character that will be reveal on Januray 18th, It will likely be from FF XI. I think this is the next Fina Fantasy to receive a new character since it doesn't have a villain from that section to oppose. This is just my spectation of the upcoming new character reveal.

Although i like the fact that they've announced more cosmos characters, when are they ever going to announce more chaos ones? There's too many warriors for cosmos now. It's unbalanced if you ask me, throw in seymour or gilgamesh or i don't know beatrix?

Honestly, I think Dissidia: Duodecim needs it's own section like other Final Fantasy games. This is just getting too cluttering. Who agrees with me.
