Playstation Disgaea

Its probably cheaper to get it via the PSN, though...the PS2 version looks more polished as well, in my opinion...not to mention the PSP version has Etna mode.

Oh, and I'm going to give some random advice to anyone playing Disgaea 2 on PSP: NEVER, under ANY circumstances, pester the shopkeepers in the shop in the Item World if they don't invite you to buy goods. I kept talking to a vendor in the hope that she'd sell me some things...she told me the shop was closed and to leave. Then MADE me leave by absolutely destroying me, since she was Level 5000. Having spent about an hour getting to that point, I was not pleased at all...

I really want to unlock some more music...I'm getting a bit sick of the title theme as my Item World music. I want Laharl's vocal theme! >=O

i have adell and prism red at 9999 each, 3rd rebirth. gather the baddies using a bait character and then magichange prism red with adell, and the entire field is wiped in two turns. i have way too much time invested in this game.

Sweet. I finally finished Disgaea 2! I ended up having to grind for a few hours just to get by and finish 1 map. Sadly that made the final battle too easy for me.

@Martel : Ouch. That's the one thing I don't like about Item World. It is a great place to grind but something happens and you have to fight someone overpowered for you, you can say good bye to all of that progress.

I'm a big Disgaea fan.
I have both Playstaion games. I didn't like the second one with Adell as much as did the first.
Laharl makes the first game.

I haven't played the PS3 game although I hope to at some point.

The games are funny and have some qualities to them that yuo don't see in most JRPGS....or in most rpgs in general.

Absolutely, that's what I find so appealing about Disgaea, that wacky sense of humor is just really comical. :wacky:

A game that is both a lot of fun, and can make you laugh, is just great imo, just a really solid franchise. :D

I also agree. It's the humor as well as all of the replay value that makes the Disgaea series so unique. For anyone who wants to be a perfectionist in the series there is enough replay value to keep you interested for a few years at least.

I played some of the first game, but I got stuck around chapter 3. That weapon leveling thing. I got stuck during the 8th floor of that world, and I lost momentum and haven't played the game since, but I really wanna get back to it! I love the whole crack vibe the game has xD

I've seen the PSP remake of the second game, so I wanna check that out (can't find the original PS2 game anywhere), but it's really hard to find the third game anywhere near my area (or city X_x).

Also, there's some spin-off visual novel out for the PSP, right? It's actually available out in English, so I kind of want to check out :hmmm:

The Disgaea 2 Remake/Port for/to PSP, instead of the original title of Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, the PSP one is titled Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days. :awesome:

I am absolutely going to get this for my birthday on the 26th of August, I can't wait so long as until Christmas, and as it is I can barely wait until August 26th, which is almost two months off still... <_<

How much Mana would you say would be required to create an insanely powerful character? :hmmm: Oh, and enlighten me on the battle system specifics a little, please and thank you, anyone. =P

I can't answer your first question since I still have barely started grinding in the game. Your second question on the other hand kind of difficult to explain. Is it your first time playing Disgaea 2 or do you mean you want to know what new gameplay features have been added to the PSP version?

Sadly, I haven't played any of the Disgaea games yet, including Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (though I won't ever end up getting that, seeing as Dark Hero Days is every bit of that and more, and on a handheld. :awesome:)...

So I don't really know for the original or the remake/port of Disgaea 2, so any details about it would be educational to me. :P I'm getting it anyways, but it wouldn't hurt to know some of the specifics of good stuff that the battle system offers, and contributes to the strategic factor to it that makes it challenging. :D

I can give you a basic overview of the battle mechanics.

It's a strategy RPG, so the battle field is composed of tiles. It's a turn based affair, so each character of course will have a go at taking turns to beat the crap out of enemies.

The player gets a turn first and once all your characters have performed actions and have ended their turns, the enemies make theirs and so on. You can move your character - you are limited by how many tiles you can move across - and perform actions such as attack, cast spells etc. It's familiar RPG territory here.

You'll have to select the "Execute" option in the menu to perform the action. Characters can also perform combo attacks if you have allies near you.

There are more complex features such as the Geo Panel system that lends more of a strategic edge to things - don't worry, a tutorial explains it to you.

Okay, tutorials are boring though. And tiles? :hmmm: I thought it was more open movement in battle, anywhere from the tiniest bit of movement to the full extent of distance they can travel for one turn.

dp I assume is for distance points or something of the like, yes? It isn't like in Final Fantasy Tactics where you move a few square tiles being about the size of a character, but rather less restricting movement options in which you have 360 directional movement, and could travel part of the distance a character can go, kill an enemy, then walk the rest of the distance off to get it closer to another enemy (or further from one)?

And is it like that, of all the player's characters take a turn, then the enemies get a turn, and so forth, no mixture of this character on the player's side goes, that enemy goes, this character of the player's gets two turns in a row because it's Speed is really high compared to many of the others...

I am assuming there is a Speed stat in this game, I like how in Phantom Brave you can have really high Speed to an enemy character's low Speed, then that characters gets many turns for their one, I hope I still get to get the upper hand with high speed or yeah, this game is gonna be some hell of a tough run for me, some enemies can be pretty friggin' powerful, but slow, that's where I could manage it. >_>'

Nope not in this game since you determine who moves when on your own turn phase. In this game speed pretty much determines how often you will be dodging, if an enemy however has a high hit rate it won't matter much. Also I tend to notice characters with good speed also have good base movement but you don't gain any more movement by getting more speed.

Damn, I hope I don't find the Disgaea games to be impossible, I'll probably grind like mad from very early on in Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days so I shouldn't have regrets later. :hmmm:

The story portion is not really too bad. There are some moments that are difficult but usually that is only because of the Geo Panels on the map wanting to destroy your team. The worst yet still common effect you will come across are Enemy Boost times X.

I am not familiar with these 'Geo Panels', what exactly do these do? :hmmm: Perhaps these can be used to the player's advantage? Or only against...? I hope it can work for either side, whatever it is that it actually does...

Geo Panels can be extremely advantageous - I mean, I recently came across some that gave me something like 200% additional EXP in the Item World...I had a lot of fun with that. XD

Although in the story they mostly just serve to annoy...there is a really annoying map at the end of Chapter 9 of Disgaea 2 filled with fairly high-level Prinny and Clone tiles...the Prinnies are right up the other end of the map, as are the panels, meaning you're probably guaranteed about twenty or so extra enemies on your hands, as half the Prinnies are standing on the tiles...I find the "Invincible" and "No Lifting" combo to be annoying, as well. It means you have to bait enemies out.

It serves to add a little challenge to things...as if things weren't challenging enough. XD

If you want an easier time of it in Disgaea 2, get the DLC characters. Although be advised that Pleinair is the ONLY one who will join you without a battle...but, once you have her, you should be able to get the others fairly easy. She's freakin' crazy. I don't use her (or any of the others, for that matter) in the story, but she's gotten me out of a couple of nasty scenarios in the Item World...

I can't say for sure if I would ever be getting any Downloadable Content for anything on the PSP, so I can't say that is too likely... ^^; Thanks for that advice though, those Geo Panels sound fuuuun... >.>'

Yes, Geo Panels can work either way for you. Sometimes they can be a blessing but most of the time they're just there to make a battle harder. But then again, without them the game would be too easy in my opinion so it balances out.

Well, if it didn't have the Geo Panels, I am sure there would be some other substitute to make the battles more challenging. :P

Guess I will deal with that as I need to while playing it, but I am rather disappointed about with the turns, none of the characters can get multiple turns in over any other's one...this makes me think it is mostly a battle system like Phantom Brave and Fire Emblem combined, with a couple changes and additions here and there...
