Lately, I have been creating many posts with images. I usually prefer to use tags as opposed to copy-and-pasting links because I think members (including myself) would much rather prefer to see a preview of the image in a post than just clinking on a bunch of links. It's also more efficient imo, but anyway... xD

However, [B]there are times in which I am unable to provide a direct link for the [img] tag[/B], such as the artwork found on deviantArt. While I can save the image and upload it into a photo-hosting site (such as photobucket, tinypic, etc.), this is a little tedious and time-consuming at times.

[U][B]So here's my main question: Is it [I]really[/I] alright to attach photos to posts, or does it take up too much bandwidth for the site?[/B][/U] Is there a sort of invisible limit that I should not break? (hehe, limit break). I don't know the technicalities behind it so maybe I'm mistaken, but I think that if everyone were to attach images into their posts directly from their computers, it would take up some sort of file space/storage from the site. Or is that wrong? xD;

I know that sometimes it is alright to attach images because obviously the option is there to do so... but I'm under the impression that it is not the most preferred method of posting images. Also, sorry for the long post, I just felt I needed some sort of backstory. x_x;[/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT]

I wouldn't worry about that, as long as you mostly use the [ img ] tag your be fine.... if your worried you should invest in a photobucket account :3

Chanteru

The only kinds of images I would worry about are animated ones, and even then, it's just the large ones that'll hit a site's bandwidth like mad.

The upload/attachment limits are set per usergroup, in the main options of the forum's admin control panel, and another little secret area. You'll know when an image is too large; the site will yell at you. :lew:

Thank you for the info! ;3 I was really worried about sucking up the site's bandwidth. x_x;

I'll use Photobucket from time to time just to stay on the safe side, at least when posting a bulk of images (like 5+). The only annoying thing about Photobucket is that when I try resizing large images to make them smaller, sometimes the version in the post doesn't appear to be resized. >.> But mehh, that's just a minor thing I suppose. xD

It really isn't a big deal, as Nightfade already pointed out. If it becomes a serious issue, we can easily put more limitations then, but there has been no need for any strict limits. So don't be afraid to use the attachments if you really want to. :)

Attachments seem to take longer to load themselves, (not issues with loading wise) if you wanna show a lot of pictures, but don't wanna bomb the page, you might wanna just try IMG tagging them and using the SPOILER tag. =]
