I've just followed suit and unleashed an attack on the beasty's head, although it was tough to get up that high. 
Hope this helps bring this enemy down, I know there will be plenty of other battles aside from this.

If you want to follow the story more, don't have so many boss battles so frequently and which have a bajillion HP. xP
