Best story in a Final Fantasy

For me, it would have to be X. Whilst the majority of them have good storylines, this one really stood out for me. Perhaps it's just because it was the first time we had voiceovers and graphics that depicted the emotions on their faces. However, it's just the fact that a journey is undertaken and we are taken on that same journey through Tidus - we learn the truth about Yevon, what a summoner's pilgrimage really is, etc.

It had the elements of a typical Final Fantasy, too: love, friendship, relationships, heartbreak, revelations, loss and so on. Seymour was quite the demented antagonist, who seemed to never be defeated until near the very end. Everything about it kept me glued to the screen and not wanting to turn the game off for many hours!

VII;

- The overal plotline, the characters, the materia system, battle system, all the things you can complete in VII are amazingly put out there.

- You can spend hours in the Gold Saucer -as I did-, and not completely waste your time. You can gain things in the Chocobo races, or Battle arena.

- The things you have to do to make progress are nicely laid out, the WEAPON's you gotta beat are a pain in the ass. xD And give you a hard time to get it done.

- Most of all I just love how the characters develop almost into real people you start to care for as they grow on you.

Best game ever in my opinion. And I'm not the biggest fan girl out there. So that's common sense opinion talk.

FF VII <3

I have to go with Final Fantasy IX. Like someone else has already mentioned, it has a bit of everything in it which made it extremely enjoyable. I'd go with FFXII as well, whilst I still criticise it for being underdeveloped I still think it had a thoroughly good storyline which was both enjoyable and gripping :-)

VIII

All rounded. Practically all plot-holes covered up. The only complaint I'd have is the characters themselves. Rather than presented against the backdrop back-stories and quirks like previous games, all the characters in VIII developed, mastered and over-used the art of the monologue. Monologues with more Ellipses than I have even seen might I add. Still a fantastic yarn!

oh gosh that is so difficult. i think everyone has good points to make about every single game and i voted seven but i think im now thinking 10 aha. i just loved it, it was great with the way you never really knew what was going on with tidus and why he was there. and i cried so much regarding him and yuna! they were just perfect! oh gosh ! i loved the fact the story was carried with some lightheartedness (its a word! haha) aswell. it wasnt all just drama drama drama.
everything wasnt all just straightforward aswell. as someone said about yevon. the betrayal and seymour aswell! all so awful aha! but all so great ! i really love this game soo muchos actually :)

This was a hard one for me as I like so many of the stories. However I'd have to say VII and X have the most well done, captivating and consistent storylines. Which are also the two with the highest votes on this poll. So I guess most would agree!

They draw you in the most and have the best twists, you really want to find out what happens next. X's story is simple yet really effective, you don't become confused and it doesn't change much. I really enjoyed playing them, well I enjoyed playing most of the FF's! But I believe story-wise VII and X are at the top, they have everything. The gameplay, graphics and voice acting of X probably enchanced the story and overall gaming experience. It really made it come to life! You've been taken along this journey with Tidus and really feel a part of Spira and Yuna's quest. The characters were all great and the romance between Tidus and Yuna made it even better. There were a lot of sad moments in the game too. Although I didn't really like the fact... (spoiler)
Tidus was a dream though, that he wasn't truly real. I wanted him and Yuna to finally be together after they destroyed Sin. The ending was so sad. :sad2: But I guess you get that in X-2 so it's ok. :)

VII's storyline is also amazing. I think if VII had the graphics and gameplay of X, it would be even better. But I think it's quite hard deciding between these two. :P

Lol same here. I voted VII but then started to think maybe I should have voted for X. :P I agree with what you've said!

OFCOURSE my favorite game, and story is Final Fantasy X, love the environment of the game, the places, especially the music and with the theme "To Zanarkand". The story is very beautiful with the love story, the sadness, happiness everything..IT'S PERFECT..PLUS with the sequel of the game FFX-2, really PERFECT

Number X is the story I loved the most. I really just... bonded with this story and the characters as well. It made you think about my life too... and what I would do if I was in a situation like Tidus' or Yuna's... This story made me laugh and cry and even made me angry sometimes. For all there reasons (and reasons I'm too lazt to type out...) this is my favorite story.

i say FFX has the best story because to me, it kept me interested the whole time and i was anxious to kno what was gonna happen next. it had a lot of twists and the romance in it also made it a bit realistic in a way. graphics were pretty amazing and its really a challenge to beat the whole game plsu the side quests and blitzball was also very fun to do. even tho i kept losing in blitzball >>

mmhmm id say either X, XII, or VII

its hard to say but...man i honestly cant decide
i want to say VII
but XII was also pretty epic.
mmhmm probably VII
:gonk:

Quick question, if I already voted on this poll like the poll box says why are there still no votes for FF2?

Thought it's not my favorite Final Fantasy overall, I have to say FFIX. It's just so stuffed with, well, all sorts of things. I still don't remember the way everything happens and the exact order it goes on in, but it all unfolds beautifully, and tells a wonderful fantasy tale.

I like this and I agree. It was close for me but I voted for VI.

From a resistance at war with an empire, to the birth of a post apocalyptic world. This all told through characters with equal importance. Each one provides a good healthy amount to the story.

Also seeing the world in a more original way, more or so from the enemies eyes. Since the story is pushed around what Kefka is trying to achieve as opposed to the party busy with operas and a charismatic octopus.

I voted Final Fantasy IX, I fell in love with Final Fantasy just off playing this game. It's the perfect story, it's full of betrayal, romance AND full of amazing characters. This game is probably the only Final Fantasy games that has a perfect cast! The fact Kuja is my favorite villain also makes me love it even more.

My second choice would have probably been between Final Fantasy VII & VIII - them two are both amazing, and there story's are out of this world. Final Fantasy X would have been my 4th choice.

I like everything about Final Fantasy VII best, the story is absolutely no exception. I think the characters are all interesting and fun/cool (well, almost all. I don't like Cait Sith. -_-), Nanaki being my favourite Final Fantasy character.

I thought the whole story telling thing at Kalm was interesting, then it was fun to go through as Zack in Crisis Core. ;P And of course the death of Aerith was a huge shock, a playable character dying a ways into the game...didn't see it coming at all.

But my favourite part of it is while at Cosmo Canyon, when Nanaki learns the truth about his father Seto, whom he thought to be a coward, was actually the complete opposite, that was a serious misunderstanding. >.>'

Seriously, whoever's moderating this thread or if anyone has any help

I VOTED FOR FINAL FANTASY II (FROM DAWN OF SOULS) MONTHS AGO

and the vote should show it.
thanks

FF6 easily had the best plot, and it was completely original. Its legendary for how great its plot was, but the game however was unfortunately overshadowed by FF7, which had a surprisingly similar plot. Coincidence? I think not

I'm going to go with FFXII. It was nice not to have the standard romance subplot going on, and the fact that Vaan was one of the most irritating protagonists in existence was acceptable somewhat in the fact that the story focused on the larger issues at hand, and not his personal ones. It was a refreshing change.

Strangely, I think that Crisis Core had a better plot than FFVII itself...
