Playstation Backward compatibility add on

I think it is a bit too late for that one. The PS3 has managed to do well this long without it, I really don't think it is needed now. Not to mention as you said, it will probably cost quite a bit thus probably making it cheaper to buy an older model BC PS3. Not to mention I still own a PS2 and it works well so I really doubt I will buy one.
 
:hmmm: I do want to play Rogue Galaxy again on ps3 and FF12 (which I never owned or finished)
 
I would get this just so I can pack away my PS2. I can play any Final Fantasy game on my PS3 BUT X and XII.
 
Although I think this is a great thing to finally do, it's a bit late and a bit of a cheap shot making you pay for it. Although I do understand they're a company and have to make money.
The PS3 consoles should all have come with this from the beginning, and if you have to pay for something like that then what's stopping you going out and getting a PS2 instead? Since those are backwards compatible and will be able to play back to the PS1 games.

Not a bad thing that they're finally getting round to it, at least they're getting something done.
 
My PS3 already plays PS1 games, and my PS2 is still in perfect working condition, but, I still think this is a pretty good thing. Being able to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games on one console would be much better, and I think it would boost the appeal of the PS3 to those who have yet to purchase a PS3.

Although, it's a bit cheeky of them to expect you to pay for something which should have been included from the start, really. I hope it's not too expensive, otherwise, people could just say "sod that" and get a cheap PS2 instead.
 
Well I already own a BC model, so Sony can just suck it :monster:

And if I didn't, I would've figured out how to have both my PS2 and PS3 plugged in at once.

I will concede if the price point for this adapter (?) is reasonable, then it might not be too bad :hmmm:
 
they shoulda jut included it on all models in the first place. Poor move. Taken their time to finally get round to creating an add on for it, though, it's a bit cheap expecting us to pay for it. My Ps and PS2 both work just fine, so it's only summat I'd consider if my PS2 decided to conk.... and tbf, I have had it for over 5 years (record time for me) so I'm sure it's due to croak sometime soon

You just know whatever it is will cost a small fortune :hmph:
 
Wasn't the backwards compability one of the reasons why the PS3 was initially so expensive? Personally I think it's better to keep the console as cheap as possible and let people pay extra if they want the backwards compability (which not everyone does).
 
I keep seeing people say that the backwards compatibility was free. It wasn't free, you paid more for your PS3 with PS2 compatibility than I paid for my PS3 slim without PS2 compatibility. If this device is only around $100, I'll consider getting it.
 
That is interesting. My playstation 3 only plays ps1 games and can not play ps2 games. I also never use my ps2 anymore so this should be perfect. I really want to finish FF X-2 and XII and it would be awesome to on my ps3 :ryan:
 
This doesn't affect me anyway since my PS3 has full backwards compatibility. But I think it's a good idea nonetheless.

I agree, not everyone cares if they are able to play their old games on their PS3, therefore they shouldn't have to pay for it. But it's nice that they now have an option if they do decide that they want to use their PS3 to play older games.
 
I've never cared for BC, in the 3/4 years I've had my PS3 I've never bothered with PS2 games, it was more of an issue to begin with because the launch games weren't exactly top quality but nowadays there's quite a few AAA titles knocking about and most of "significant" PS1/PS2 seem to be contemplating being remade or launched onto PSN.
 
To be honest if I'd wanted backwards compatibility I wouldn't have got the newer model.

Also with this thing, will we have to use our old PS1/2 memory cards, or will it allow you to save your files onto the harddisk of the PS3?

Seems like a pretty chunky add-on if it needs its own power source. This will be a slight problem no matter how useful this device will be. If I had an extra plug hole (which I currently don't because of TV, VHS, Sound-system and the PS3) I'd connect my slim PS2 since it hardly takes up any space anyway. Will this thing be that much smaller than the slim PS2 anyway?
 
I hope this isn't too far off the subject, but on the PS3s that were backward compatible, did they have a different memory card or could you plug in the PS1 or PS2 memory cards in someplace, or was a device you could plug into the machine that allowed you to play those cards ?

I don't see such a place on the backwards compatible PS3 where such a card will fit.

Don't know how large the device in the article will be.
I assume SONY must think there's a market for it..although most likely it will be way overpriced.
 
^ There was a Sony PS3 memory card adapter that transferred the save data from your PS1 and PS2 memory cards onto the PS3 hard drive. You put the memory card into the adapter and connected the device to one of the usb ports and a way you go.

The only downside to the device was that you only had to use it once, and afterwards it's just gathering dust. If you can do some kind of group buy with friends, it may be better, but meh-I was able to find one for 5 bucks so I'm good :awesome:

I guess we'll see it at some point.I assume Sony will stop support for PS2s....I assume they are still making PS2s...or if they have stopped making them will stop repairing them/stop making repair components for them..so if your PS2 breaks and you want to get it fixed you will be out of luck.
I expect there will still be lots of PS2S out there for a while second hand before the supplies of them dry up.
That's the likely scenario dontcha think ?
 
Sony is being an ass. They did that just to piss us off, there should be two version: non backwards (in stores) and backwards (online). That would make it the most simple.
