Channy, don't worry. You'll see it. I have to warn you, please don't give up hope for the movie in the beginning. It might be a bit rushed(moving from Air temples)but it's a really great finish.

Also, they say Aang as ONG and Sokka as SOAKA and yea, that's about it. xD

Yeah I just started reading the reviews on IMDB and wow . . . can you say major bashing on the reviewers parts and I'm a huuuuuge fan of AtLA. I watched every episode from the first Book to the last one and the Sozin's Comet three-part series. So I don't know how to react getting such mixed reactions . . . do people love it just to love it or is it sincere appreciation for Shyamalan's efforts (because whether it was half-arsed or not, I think he still tried) and are the bashers just bashing to well . . . bash about something?

I'm not sure if I want to see it because I'm afraid that I'll walk out of my local Regal's theatre feeling that same animosity towards the director for doing such a disservice to such a beautifully crafted cartoon. I mean, AtLA is essentially a part of my childhood, it came out when I was like fifteen or so.

I'm appalled really so please, someone throw me a line: see this movie in theaters? Wait for it to come out on DVD? Or pass it altogether and supposedly (according to these IMDB reviewers) save myself the disappointment and torture? o_O

Wait for DVD.

Yeah, after reading all the IMDB reviews and hearing about the name mispronunciations, it makes you wonder what M. Night was thinking. There are countless articles backing his 'love' for the animated series, saying he watched it with his kids but really.. if he did that, wouldn't he know the correct way to pronounce the main character's names? I mean Aang ffs of all people. :ffs:

I'm still going tomorrow tho.

Yea, he changed names because he wanted them to sound more "Indian" go figure.

Well, yes. But he felt the show was Indian based which was ok'd by Mike and Brian(creators of the show)

Surely he would have anticipated the endless negativity towards the mispronunciations. There could be no way that he didn't foresee that.

He's M. Night, he's use to negativity. It's all he EVER gets. The guy can never seem to get love from anyone cept fans.

I guess so. I (finally) saw it today, and still really enjoyed it. Sure it was rushed, sure there were mispronunciations.. sure Dev didn't look enough like Zuko but he played him very well, same with Iroh... the rest were fairly spot on. It's just, for today's movies, Shalamalaman (I really only call him this these days cause it's easier to spell than his real name) could have spent another 45 mins on the movie to explain a few more things. It was still good though.

Also, random interview thing I found.

Some critics have also suggested that Shyamalan should have added a larger number of Asian actors to his cast. His response? “The great news is I’m Asian, so that worked out really well. The casting of the movie was a really wonderful opportunity for me to make a world of nationalities that I was excited about and diverse and it is one of the great assets of the movie and the subject matter that it is borrowing from all cultures.”

Yeah, cause we're going to be looking at YOU, Mr. Shyamalan, for 2 hours, and comparing YOU to pre-existing characters. Thumbs up!

:ffs:

May still see it. May wait for DVD. Interestingly enough, while Ebert hated the movie, he had some fairly glowing comments for the cartoon. (At least in my opinion, when you compare the style of an animated series to the works of Miyazaki, it comes across as glowing.)

The movie may just fall into that gap of "If you loved it, you REALLY loved it; and if you hated it, you REALLY hated it"...something with little/no middle ground.

For other examples of such movies; see "Hook", "Revenge of the Fallen", and "The Twilight films".

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Channy!

Madaraki, I think you should check it out in theaters, actually. Just go in there with an opened mind.

Ok I saw the movie last night and here is my oppinion.

It was too short, too crammed, and felt rushed. I think it would have been a great movie if it had been three hours long, or maybe even a half an hour longer.

Sokka and Aang had no personality. I don't even think it was even hinted that Sokka was very intelligent. Katara was just a passive hopeful girl at best. Iroh, one of the funniest characters in the show, was just boring. If they could have just made the movie a half an hour longer and showed Sokka, Aang, and Katara interact, I think that would have improved it greatly. It was a little silly that they didn't even know his name until after he escaped off the fire nation boat. Did they all walk in silence back to the souther water tribe?

I was also a little annoyed that they did not have the norther water tribe master be sexist because that showed that none of the nations were perfect. (Fire was attacking people, Water had strict gender roles, Earth had a corrupt government at least in Ba Sing Sei, Air lived in isolation) And it would have been cool to see Katara fight him and earn his respect.

I also found it a little disappointing that the entire fire nation just sailed away after seeing a big wave come for them, when in the cartoon Aang destroyed the entire fleet. If they can show that on Nickelodeon they can surely show that in a movie? And I don't think it would have been too violent because in Narnia TLWW, I thought the battle scene was pretty intense for a kids movie. Not only that but they did not give Shau a very nice death.

It seemed that the fire nation characters were in the movie more than the main characters. And Zukko's plot almost seemed to be the main plot.

The movie itself felt like a recap of the first season.

On the positives.

The scenery looked beautiful. I especially loved the air temples and the northern water tribe city.

The battle in the Northern Water Tribe was fun to watch and Yue's sacrifice was done very well. Appa and Momo also looked great.

The movie needed more length, more character development, and better pacing.

I love the movie. It could have been better, yea, but I still enjoyed it. After all, who could fit so much into a tiny movie? M.Night wasn't allowed to go over an hour...

But M night went over an hour....1:30 mins....And I really didn't like the movie as the fight scenes were such a big letdown. I could deal with the horrible character acting if they had good fight scenes that wasn't show as shit or short as hell...-__- I stopped watching the movie after a while...

Bad fight scenes? Aang wasn't really suppose to fight anyway. The only bad part of the fight scenes was the Earthbenders.... :c which I hated, since they are my favorite. >.>

The Earthbenders were the very worst....I had high hopes for this movie too....Plus I remember Aang kicking way more ass in the show. But anyway well see how this movie's profits turn out... in the future...

Oh, for a moment I thought you meant they were bad in the show lol

But then I realized you meant the movie >.>

The thing that irked me about the Earth Benders, was that when they were imprisoned in the cartoon, they were on a Fire Nation ship. NOT secluded to a tiny area of your own village, SURROUNDED BY AND STANDING ON EARTH. Srsly, it took Aang to tell you, you were still on Earth for it to sink in? wtf.

That and the 8 Earth Benders moving together to move one flying rock. I MEAN COME ON.

lol

Exactly this.

M.Night made Earthbenders look weak, when they were suppose to be strong and full of courage and very brave...
