I have played VIII journey of the cursed king, I can't get into it much though tbh. I can't actually remember where I am though tbch.

No I haven't, JCK was the first one I had even heard of. I saw it for a while but only recently bought it, I know I beat the sea monster thing and arrived at the next town. Don't know where I went next though.

Oh! That's right. JCK is the first Dragon Quest game to be released in Europe. Dragon Quest is the most popular game in Japan. :/

The first and only Dragon Quest game I have and have played is DQVIII: Journey of the Cursed King. I'd love to play the previous games, but most of them are extremely rare except the Nintendo ones, which you can just download roms for.

I'v only played Dragone Quest 8 myself, although I really enjoyed it. Id put it up there in one of my favourite games
(I prefer it over FFXII anyways >_>)
It had a really interesting story and I love all that cell shading stuff it was nifty

And theres a casino - that just = win

I quite enjoyed DQ VIII and I'm happy that they're re-releasing two other older games for DS. Think it's V & VI.

I've finished it ages ago but my nephew is playing it now. He keeps asking me for help but because I played it so long ago, I can't remember what he should be doing so I have to use a guide for him. His mum has ordered the strategy guide so it'll be a good read.

I find it pretty helpful to press START actually and talk to the other characters. They normally give good hints as to where to go... Sort of an off-topic post here, seeing as it's helping people play the game rather than talking about playing it, but, whatever.

Got the latest one and played an old one some years ago.
Cant find it now sadly.

And Demonic Rider, please put more effort into your posts please.

I have Dragon Quest VIII, but I haven't completed the game. In fact, I haven't played it in over a year...

It's a pretty solid game, but I find it hard to become absorbed in it. Maybe it's all the cross-country running that's required to get from place to place...or maybe it's the bland soundtrack...

I dunno. Something keeps me from playing it despite my high opinion of the game.

DQVIII is the only DQ game I've ever played and it's about time PAL gamers got their hands on it. The storyline on the whole was entertaining and the skill development system gives you freedom of choice to build your characters the way you want them, though their jobs shouldn't change. The voice-acting was also pretty strong and it contains some of the most amazing orchestral music you will ever hear in a videogame.

However, it's a bit of a chore getting EXP here than FF games and the encounter rate at times can be brutal and unforgiving not to mention discourages exploration in the Overworld Map. Gold came in dribs and drabs, the amount of fights you have to get into just so you can afford to upgrade one piece of equipment is just plain retarded. But that's what DQ is all about.

I also spent a lot of time in the Baccarat casino. The slot machines here were as addictive as the real thing, but the chances of getting a Lucky 7 combination is surprisingly high. Not that I'm complaining.

I tried to play the one (Journey of a Cursed King) but couldn't get into it. Slow to start. >_< I wasn't a fan of all the levelling up one has to do before even starting the game properly. I like a game which throws me into the story right away! I sadly can't put LOTS of effort into gaming anymore. Maybe in a few months for a little while.

Man...that's the truth. I'm only on level 20 and it requires roughly 6,000 exp to level up. Leveling up, acquiring gold, getting from point A to point B...everything is a slow process. Exploration would be easier if I could fully heal without having to go to an inn.

I've played DQVIII and i feel the same as Von; dunno why, but i didn't get as involved in the game as in others RPGs.

The game is fun and looks great (for the PS2); but i haven't played it for almost half year and didn't feel like keep playing it anymore.

Levelling is a pain, even trying to kill all those metal slimes is nightmare on that island thingy because they are so sodding elusive and then when you DO get in a battle with them the buggers just escape >_<

I just started encountering metal slimes a few minutes ago! Yesiree...they ARE an annoyance. I'm at the point where I just flee when I see those stinkers.

At least I can ride on giant cats now. Riding on those saves a lot of time!

This thread has discouraged me from ever playing this game. I hate grinding.

You really want to try to kill them if you can, they only have like 3hp or something. The only problem is alot of your hits miss and the buggers run away Its so infuriating but worth it for the exp:monster:
