Multiple Platforms Anyone play Dragon Quest?

The dudes I were fighting weren't dying that easily...and I was hitting 'em a little bit.

They're not as bad as these goo dudes who multiply themselves. They'd cast magic that'd confuse my characters and cause them to see illusions...which makes them miss their attacks. While my characters miss, they split in two...leaving me with more monsters to kill.

And yeah, if you hate grinding, I definitely wouldn't recommend playing this game. haha

I played Dragon Quest VIII, but I got slightly bored of it after awhile and stopped playing shortly after Jessica joins the party, the pace of the game was too slow for my liking...

The game does move rather slowly...

I've been in the same place for more than 10 hours. I'm training for Dhoulmagus. The bastard destroyed me the first time I fought him. Won't beat me again...

And christ...I wish this game had some more battle music.

I've beaten the 1st and 4th and have almost completed the 3rd. The others have various levels of progress from around 2-20 hours. It's a fairly charming series, although most of them are rather archaic by todays standards. DQVIII is just as good as any other recent JRPG though.

I've never seen any Dragon Quest games other than VIII.

Are they japanese-only or something?

...does this game ever end? The main villain just keeps on changing! Everytime I think I've beaten the main enemy, the torch is passed on to someone else.

I just owned a pirate spirit. Hahaha...imaginative.

I have played every game in the series prior to Dragon Quest VII-and I liked all the ones since II. I would put IV up there as possibly the best RPG on the NES, beating even Final Fantasy II. I'm planning on playing VIII at some point, as well.

How are you getting on with that? :wacky:

I've still to get round to completing VIII, at the last boss (at least I think it is) and had one attempt at him but couldn't get it done. I hate how the fucking later bosses have that move that resets your characters tension.

Still love the game since I'm a fan of the old retro style of JRPGs but dear God it can be annoying at times. I'll be aiming to get the DQ remakes for the DS if they see the light of day over here.

I have VIII, that's it. It's actually a charming little RPG, and I love the battle system and weapons (boomerangs ftw). It's actually more of a challenge than it looks too, which is pretty nice since I can breeze through most FFs. Toriyama's character designs I'm not too big on...everyone looks the same, just with different outfits and different colored hair, but at least it's pleasant to look at.

Dragon quest

I was wandering are there any Dragon quest fans out there

I'm almost 100% sure there is a thread for this, but yeah, I have Dragon Quest VIII and it's an EPIC game, it's so much fun and I love the *mind goes blank* Cell shadeyness of it all....? It even has day and night which is seriously groovy and I LOOOOVE the casino. It's a little hard but it's easily one of the best games I have ever played, I really should look into getting hold of an earlier game or 2......

I saw summat for the DS in Game but Im not sue if its an actual game or summat gay like a card game or summat, seeing as Im pretty sure it's not DQIX.....

Yep, but the other thread was in Rocket Town.

I actally played the first two games on the Game Boy Color. I also played Eight, which I thought was really great. That was one of the games I went kind of crazy on, and completely finished (beat all of the Dragovian Trials). 120 hours, but I enjoyed all of them.

I've played DQI-V, VII & VIII (and a couple of the DQMonster games)...I beat DQI, which is a must-play for any oldschool fan. 1-on-1 battles~!! They should bring that back sometime just for kicks...lol...I don't think I beat II or III though, but close on one of them...I forget. I beat DQIV, which is also a must-play (though maybe just wait until the DS version comes out) as it's in the top-tier with FFIII & Mother (/"Earthbound ZERO") as the 3 best 8-bit RPGs. Can't wait to play the remake. DQVII was the highest selling PSX game (in Japan) and it happened waaaaaay late in the system's lifespan...The graphics weren't fantastic (sprites still), but the character development, much like DQVIII, was great and the story, though it dragged on, was nice enough. DQVIII was just great, I loved playing it...I don't understand why they didn't tack on a New Game+ feature though, since you get all that fancy Dragovian stuff...but w/e...still cool.

idk how I feel about DQIX having a action-based combat system...or is it...? I'm sure it'll be cool anyways. Looks great.

I've only played Dragon Quest VIII. Actually, I got back into playing it yesterday. I'm on the pointless mission of maxing the level of my party members. I've spent hours hunting Liquid and King Metal slimes. Hard to find and defeat, but they yield a crapload of experience. Thank god for Thunder Thrust and Hatchet Man. :]

I'll probably play DQIX once it releases. Not crazy about it being on the DS, but it looks nifty.

There's a mountain you can only reach when you can fly near that stupid inventor's tower thingy or w/e...It has a lot of metal monsters (so get your Falcon Swords & what-not ready).

Even on that stupid bloody mountain they don't appear as often as I'd like, I swear I spent about an hour on that mountain thing before one metal slime arse showed up then promply escaped. It's certainly the most frustrating game for power levelling I have ever come across >_>
