Beginning to bore of the Final Fantasy series? After playing Crisis Core and nearly beating Final Fantasy XII... I'm getting fuck well irritated that I'm dishing out the cash for games that only last a whole shitting day.

I picked up XII the other day with a new PS2 controller, because I wanted to play it, then bitch about how boring it is within valid reasoning.

The games are just becoming so repetitive that it's sad.

for gameplay of Final Fantasy XII:

LARGE FUCKING DUNGEON, RIDDLES, TWO OR THREE BOSSES IN THE SAME DUNGEON.

I felt like breaking the game in half while I was in Giruvega.(or however it's spelled) some dungeons are big, like throwing an earing in a soda bottle, but Giruvega was like throwing a hot dog down a corridor.

All that shit and no teleport crystal? it's insane I tell you!

Pharos is just... leik, fuck off kthx. >____>

the story may be interesting to some, but I really have a strong distaste for straightforward shit and poor character development when it comes to elements outside of gameplay.

It's just so retarded that one second everyone's got someone in a cage interrogating them, ready to beat them to a pulp to steal the nethecite from them that they stole first, or just met, and they're acting as if they were friends 30 minutes later.

It's horribly ridiculous, taking into account how they act so friendly towards each other but we never see anything that any development in the relationships has been made.

Edit:

how in shitting hell could I forget the bosses? They're all irritable fags. All they can do is nail you with status ailments and kick you in the teeth while you're down. cunts.

>________>

it's really irritating because it's a real mindfuck to have that shit keep happening after getting through half the game. The Elder Wyrm just goes overkill with that bullshit and every boss thereafter pretty much follows, but maybe not as much of an asshat.

I understand a game needing to be challenging, but this is just beyond my patience and temper. Though, fortunately for me, it's not beyond mai codebreaker, bitches. :monster:

Crisis Core was just ultimate FFVII compilation whoredom, really. It was a shitty game that lasted 18 hours with ok graphics. The only remarkable items about the game were Zack (and his story), Angeal, and Aerith.

I'm getting pretty pissed that I'm pretty much being swindled here. I dished 40 USD for Crisis Core and 20 USD for FFXII. I'm slightly less pissed I paid twenty for FFXII since that's standard pricing, but I could've bought tacos and other cool shit instead of FFXII. D:

*cuts ties with Square Enix*

I bet if they'd stop spamming their games with shitty and useless CGI sequences (that are beginning to look disgusting btw) they'd actually be able to make their games less shit. >=(

also, plz use spoiler tags if you're going to say shit about FFXII. I still haven't beaten it yet since I'm in pharos :wacky:

Lmao xD

I'd have to agree though, I think FFXIII is a make or break compilation at the moment. Final Fantasy has been going downhill ever since the Square-Enix merge. I mean, FFX was seen as a great game but then they merge and create FFX-2 which was a complete disaster, FFXI doesn't appeal to the many people, DoC was alright but wasn't brilliant, XII was disastrously under-developed and although I really liked Crisis Core it became repetitive too often.

The only things I don't like about Crisis Core is how utterly crap the missions are. All they are essentialy is follow a very linear path in a closed off area, grab any treasure on the way and beat the monster. There is no real individuality to them. Other than that the game is top notch.

X-2 was in development before the merger apparently so we can't really blame the Enix merger for that as much as we all want to. But agreed this was the point where the seires begins to suck.

XII needed some development. It was a good game in itself and the story has alot of potential, but for a FF game it should of been better. The gameplay does get rather tedious and boring at times.

I don't blame you dude. I always did hated that, then you would runt out of potions or what not then you have to finish.

Again, that Is gay. I really don't like how what Is set up and I would be damn If I see this crap on Versus XIII.

I agree, Crisis Core was there for us. HELL! Crisis Core Is better than FF XII.

Yeah, let's completely judge a whole company based solely on only one of their game series. That sounds fair. Y'know there are other RPGs besides Final Fantasy, right? It always seems that people complaining about SE are only talking about FF as if it's the be-all, end-all to RPGs...If you're tired of it, why not try something else? Or, how about before shelling out your money you read reviews to make sure it's something you'd like?

I don't understand some complaints these days...

No.. I think what it is is that people WANT to still like Final Fantasy.. FF4-9 (IMO, the franchises golden age) were all fantastic games, with great plots, characters and gameplay... The later series, in many peoples eyes, have been lacking in some qualities that made the series great..

I think people are upset that the series may be going downhill, and want it to go back to how it was in its golden age.

I'm starting to get rather bored of FF myself. X-2 was garbage, Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus were garbage, XII was partially garbage (LOL LETS FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTS AND BATTLE SYSTEM AND IGNORE STORY) and XIII doesn't interest me either.

That's a valid post, but it also brings up some other issues. FF used to be the be-all, end-all RPG series in many gamers' eyes (including mine), but now it seems to be declining into more typical boring RPG fare. This is partially because of the new generation of gamers: the casuals and the hyper ones who just want to shoot and hack-n-slash. Alot of gamers these days complain about random encounters and turn-based combat, and as a result SE tries making all these new systems and they either end up shit (like in XII) or they end up good (like X-2) but the story and characters suffer (both X-2 and XII).

Also, reviews are unreliable alot of times. Didn't Famitsu give XII a perfect score? Alot of US reviews gave it an incredibly high score too and said it was the best thing ever, and it was partly those very reviews that created such large scale disappointment with the game. There are numerous flaws in the game that could have been corrected had they not rushed its production, and I never heard a single thing about them in any review. Had there been an honest, unhyped review of the game, I likely wouldn't have bought it.

I have to agree. The last FF game that I truely enjoyed was FF IX. It would have been X if the game wasn't filled with cringe worthy dialogue and had me practically walking the entire thing in a straight line.

But SE has made the series look like crap by creating all these medicore sequels and spin offs. What made Final Fantasy great in the past was it's stories and intriguing characters. XII had none of that and felt like a video game version of a very badly writting big budget movie, and if X2, I wanted to shoot all of them. AC pretty much fucked up all the characters in FFVII and made Sephiroth out to be some sort of God. And DoC was boring and unnecessary.

I have serious doubts as to whether I want to buy XIII or not. I may rent it and try it out on a 360, but who knows.

Does it seem to be then that the only thing we look forward to is remakes of older games, kind of like what they're doing to Chrono Trigger on the DS, FFIV, and several other older games on GBA and other consoles because they're basically the same game with the same gameplay and stuff that made it good, only with better graphics and other bonuses?

I admit I've never played XII before, but I've kind of lost interest in playing those games now. Other games like Okami and Katamari have gotten my interest instead.

Pretty much. Aside from remakes, the only thing I'm putting my hope in is the Ivalice Alliance. Even though XII messed up on so many levels, it created a very rich backstory for the world, and I'm hoping they can do more with that.

That's another thing. I can only handle so many RPGs before I become seriously bored with reading loads of text and grinding. I usually have to ration them out or I risk getting sick of the genre entirely. I don't understand how some people are able to go from one RPG to the next with no breaks in between.

Yeah, the series really has gone downhill. FFX was a great game, imo. FFX-2...wasn't horrible. But after that...I don't know what happened. The only thing to look forward to now will be the inevitable remakes of FFV, FFVI, and hopefully FFVII. But maybe FFXIII will change our perspective, much like FFIX restored my faith in the series after FFVIII...
