Anyone else want XIII to be hard?

I just want the game to be actually challenging like the remakes of FFIII and IV have been, as has been certain parts of XII.

I don't want this game to be pathetically easy like IX, VI and VII where to complete.

Don't get me wrong I love IX, VI and VII - heck they are my three fave games in the series, but I was disappointed about the lack of challenge in them. Even on 100% runs, they are all pretty easy games to beat.

So I really hope SE crank up the difficulty notch of XIII by a quite a lot and not make this game easy to beat.

I'd love a challenge. Rather than being able to complete a whole game without dieing sometimes, id rather see the game over screen a few times.

Well what I want is not going to happen, but I want a very difficult combat system. I don't want to overly use AI like FF12 did, I want something that intrigues me to do better. I want the ability to fail multiple times, and even with a guide, I still will have to use complete reaction time to be able to take down certain "villains." So sick of the last person in the game being a complete push over.

Also if it's possible, I would still like it turn based, but when your turn comes up... you have the ability to attack certain parts of the body to inflict more damage. Also for the defensive system, actually be able to use tactics to defend yourself to take less damage. Like a counter attack, except it's not automated, you have to trigger it. I just want a more hands on game, with a guaranteed awesome adult story line.

But then again FF these days is still aimed at the younger crowd, so I doubt any of this will happen.

I want it to be pretty hard but not to hard that i'll loose interest. But saying that even if it is hard i prolly won't loose interest.

Also the mini-games i expect them to eventually get hard, that's if theres any.

I'd love more of a challenge, but I generally love the stories enough that regardless of whether or not the game is challenging, I'm satisfied.

Let's try to avoid one liners and keep on topic please guys ^^

Indeed, the last few Final Fantasy titles have been way too easy, FFXII and the likes of that. I want XIII to be something like Tactics and actually makes you have to think about what you're going to do opposed to it being awfully easy like the newer titles. >.>

Yes I do love a challenge and really wish this game will provide that entertainment for me. I'd love to stop and think awhile about what I'm doing and what I should do next - you know, thread through the battles carefully and not quite so hastily or carelessly. I want to be able to go seek help online or an official FFXIII strategy guide and dread the upcoming bosses as I prepare myself by strengthening my characters more.

I can see where the thought for this thread arised. Most of the FF titles tend to be ridiculously easy, if you follow a set pattern - you're almost assured to never lose again.

In VII, very few bosses were challenging in themselves. Using the Tranquilizer trick merits you limit breaks in nearly every battle and that's blatant daylight robbery of all experience. Aside from that, battles were generally easy, anyway.

VIII was much the same, in that I relied on limit breaks alone in nearly every battle, as it was much easier to watch Squall murder everything with Renzokuken than battle normally.

IX was moderately difficult but once you've obtained Steiner's fourth or fifth sword, you can take out almost anything rather quickly.

X was a bitch for me in my first playthrough but became a breeze my second time and, now, the only challenge is the battle arena. No battles there can be "challenging" - they can only be impossible to win or impossible to lose.

XII is also very easy, in that, if you set up your Gambits effectively, you can sit and watch your characters win a somewhat repetitive battle for you.

So, aye, I agree that I want XIII to be more challenging. I'd like fights where you might have to stop and wipe the sweat from your brow; battles where you grit your teeth no matter how many times you've fought them; linear bosses who mark an obscenely difficult part of the game.

Right now I do not really care how hard it is. I just want a good story and interesting characters. I really hope they do a good job with Lightening because it would be awesome to have a badass female lead character.

I think they should have two difficutly modes for this game. One for normal, which would be simular to any other FF game, and that would be for people who just want the storyline, and a hard mode for people that would like the challenge.

I agree with Rydia, I would rather there be the option to have difficulty modes set. Of course a game needs to be challenging, but if you can't get past this one boss after so many tries and what needs to be done is for you to have to level up more or something, I lose interest in that game :/

And sometimes I replay the game to enjoy the story really; I don't to want to have to agonize over particular battles to see the scenes afterwards, ya know?

I want it to be a challenge but, yet your not training every second of the game. (FFXII)

Someone made a reference to IV not being hard. Go play the SNES/Ps1 games. Maybe the GBA version too. They were'nt all that easy, and yet again with the whole Gambit thing. It wasn't 100% winnage, never rely on your Gambits all the time.

I prefer to do things manually, for the most part, and have a few very basic Gambits up. Makes it much better for me.

I'd love FFXIII to be challenging, sure. More challenging then X-2, but not as wicked as I and II once were. You ever play II, and right at the beginning go downwards after crossing that bridge? Yeah, that was ....nice.

Every game has a tough area to level up in, or several, so XIII could just follow that sort of route.

I hope it will be challenging and I hope there will be a lots of more secrets than before and stuffs like that. Actually XII was pretty hard but no problem if it is harder ^_^

In a way I do, but I'm hoping I don't stumble across a part or battle in the game that is near impossible for me to beat. Usually for me, a timed battle, mission, or escape is what screws me over. I spend so much time worrying about what I might miss that I jew myself over in the end and screw something up.

I do want the game to be a challenge though, and not just a breeze to fly through.

I don't know if I necessarily want the game to be hard but I want to always fear turning the next corner. I've played a couple games recently that really aren't very difficult but they certainly set a very ominous atmosphere. So while you're not actually ever scared or cursing the difficulty level, you're always on your heals because your never sure if you have what it takes to defeat your next foe. That's all I really want from FFXIII.

Also, for boss fights, I would rather have to employ strategy to take down an aggressive enemy than just tick away at a huge HP.
