Sometimes I wonder if I am actually a true FF fan as I had not played all the games and may not all that familiar with the idioms or references. I had heard of FF a few years ago when I was in grade school but I didn't play any of them until X, even then I watched G4's (before it had become crap) Icons to see what the big deal was. I hadn't finished X but then again I hadn't finished the other ones but I had been to fansites and I had heard form other fans but I don't have any of the paraphenalia or any other stuff. Forgive me but am I still a fan even if I hadn't played all the games or have all the stuff?

You are, if anyone says otherwise they're talking bollocks :monster:
At the end of day you've played the games, (how many you've played is irrelevant in my opinion) you've obviously enjoyed the series enough to sign up here at FFF and other fansites, therefore, in my eyes you buy the same games as every other fan, you play and enjoy the same games as every other fan, you discuss the same games like every other fan.

You're no less of a fan to me than anyone else on the forum. :monster:

I think your looking to much into it tbh. I wouldnt say you have to have all the games/merchandise to be a 'true fan' If you like the games and enjoy playing them, thats all that matters. :)

A fan is someone who knows the franchise, and likes whats on offer, and buys the products, plays with them etc. We can't afford to have every merchandise piece available - if so, I'd have to rob a bank. :)

You've shown a keen interest in the series from what I can see, so you're definitely a fan.

you sound like you might enjoy Final Fantasy so you may be a fan, but i wouldn't classify you as a TRUE fan. A true fan is alot more than a fan, a collector, even someone who knows alot about the franchise e.g storylines, characters, secrets etc.

I would classify myself as nearly a true fan, however i think since it became Square-Enix, every single game has been crap so my question is;

Do you need to like every game to be a true fan? I don't think so, but everyone has a different opinion so there is no real answer. It's all opinions.

Anyone who's enjoyed an FF product from beginning to end is a FF fan in my opinion.

The reason I say "from beginning to end" is because they're RPG's, and you generally don't get the whole picture until near the end, so you can't really appreciate the plot aspect unless you've either played or watched an FF product from start to finish. :P

I suppose you could get a general idea, but then you're just a fan of that general idea and not the game itself.

Being a fan isn't really something that anyone else can tell you: if you've enjoyed one of the games, then you're a fan of that game. If you've enjoyed more than one game, then you're a fan of part of the series. If you've enjoyed it all, you're still a fan, just moreso. You don't have to be a diehard fan just to enjoy the series.

:gasp:!
I say your a fan if you enjoy the games >_>
I'd consider my self a 'fan' even though i haven't played all the FF games.
I'd hope that you joined this site cuz you like FF.
You don't have to be a 'hardcore' fan like some are where they strive for perfection and have played all the games.
I say you shouldn't care what others think if you think your a fan your a fan don't let others say otherwise. I think to be a fan of something you have to enjoy doing it and i think you have so yes you're a fan in my eyes :awesome: But if anyone else thinks differently just don't listen to them. Half the time they don't even know what they're talking about :)

I couldn't help but read and I had to indulge myself...My older brother is an extremely big fan. He possesses the original copies to FFVII and FFVIII and received them on the days they first ever were released. He also owns the strategy guides and games to VII, VIII, X, CC, DoC, etc...He listens to the game's music and knows an awesome website about where to get the soundtracks to the games as well...If anyone needs it, I'll be more than happy to post it here, all you need to do is ask. He had beaten FFVII at five years old, and FFVIII two months after it came out...I was amazed at his accomplishment...I myself don't play Final Fantasy, and I tend to lose my patience with it when I play it...but I do watch my bro play it, and I can't necessarily call myself a fan, but from seeing and watching what goes on in the game, I tend to be knowledgeable about it...maybe?

being a fan is just how you feel about the franchise. if you can call yourself a fan, truly call yourself a fan, then you are one. but i think there's a definite difference between being a fan and being a collector or a "true" fan. i think it's sort of a different level. to the point where you buy things without the intent of using them for their original purpose but instead to just have them. when you start buying things just to put em on a shelf, i'd say you're a hardcore fan. i don't think i've reached that level (considering i've beaten every square-enix game i own) but i'd like to get there. and i hope that by the time i get a real job (after graduating and junk) i'll have enough money to buy some real FF paraphenelia. good stuff.

Yes, you are a fan. A true fan at that. It's fine if you haven't played them all. I haven't either. In fact, I haven't even beaten the ones I have played. I have not once completely beaten a Final Fantasy game. Some people say I am not a fan because of it, but I know I am. O

n Final Fantasy VII, I got all the way to the final battle. I had accomplished everything except actually defeating Sephiroth. My brother beat Sephiroth and I watched, I never went back to beat him.

Final Fantasy VIII was a fun game for me, but again I didn't beat it entirely. I got fairly far, but I never beat the entire game. Same with FFIX, and same with X. X-2 I have but refuse to play until I beat X, and XII I got very far in (probably had 85% of the game completed) before a scratch on my disc left my game un-playable. After a couple of months I went and got the game cleaned, and it worked fine, but I realized I forgot so much of the game so I stopped playing.

I haven't beaten Crisis Core either. So yes, you are a fan and so am I. Perhaps we aren't as knowledgeable as others, but hey, none of us are perfect. Also, no matter what anyone thinks they know, no one knows everything there is to know about anything. Not even Final Fantasy. :)

ahh dont worry you ARE a true fan hell any fan that enjoy playing final fantasy and know what the games are about are a true fan :eek:uttahere:

i know one really stupied REALLY stuiped idiot who thought he knew about final fantasy but did not even know anything about ff7 or pretty much anything about final fantasy:notfunny:

I think that if you've played a few, heck even one at times, enjoy the games, and want to play more, you're a true fan. You don't literally have to have played all of them finish-to-end, and know all the plot details down to the steps someone takes in an FMV to be considered a true fan.

It's all down to likes and personal preferences. I'm a fan of FF's, and basketball, and football, and surfing. Hell, I've never even surfed in my life and I consider myself a true fan of it.

I think you'll pass as a True FF Fan. :busta:

dude, trust me...the experiment 2.0 was in fact talking about me...from what he said, I think pretty much everyone knows I am a die hard fan....dude, you are a fan, dont worry about what others tell you. Take it from someone who has beaten all the games and possesses almost everything Final Fantasy oriented. You dont have to beat em all...but if you know about them, you are a fan...take it from me, a die hard, lol =)

awsome have you played the choco tales games? and which tactics game is your fav ?

You don't have to play all the games and have all the collectibles to be a fan, even if the only game you have played is VII, and you liked it, then you're a fan. Im a fan of Doctor Who, don't own any merchandise/DVD's though. Doesnt mean Im not a fan

If other people are telling you otherwise then they are deluded, they are just show offs saying OMG LOOK AT ME WIF ALL MY SPESHUL STUFFS

If you're into that thing, then sure knock yourself out collect what you want - Im guilty of hoarding paraphawhatsit, but it doesnt mean im more of a fan than you are. You might think Im daft xDD

tl;dr If you like the game, then you are a 'true fan', fuck what anyone else says

thats gunna be my longest post of the day, far too hungover for this today >.>

....

This thread reminds me of when I totally started getting into XII. I became so much of a die hard fan before the game was released, and I started taking part in proper XI discussions before I even played the game! True fan moment there lol

Well to me, a fan is just someone who enjoys Final Fantasy, whether they have played one game or all of them is irrelevant imo. Simply by joining FFF you have defined yourself as a fan of Final Fantasy, I mean you like Final Fantasy enough to want to join a website which is devoted to talking about it, go figure dude!

I don't think there is a difference between being a 'true fan' and being just a 'fan'. A fan isn't defined by how much merchandise they own.

sorry did not mean to get off track lost my self i just really like the ff games but yes i do think you can be a fan by just playing a single game well not even a game even one of the films as long as you found it GREAT then in my eyes you are a true fan of all time
