Plz tell me this is not the whole cast!!! I wanted other final fantasy characters in. Alright anyways will Dissidia be the only ff fighting game, I hope there is more. I imagine downloadable characters for Dissidia or progress through the story to get some secret characters. Hey maybe these are the starting characters but what about the ''Hidden characters''?

Yeah, I felt a little disappointed thinking that the only mains were already done being announced... but at least there will be hidden/unlockable characters. And, I can't really find myself to complain that much. The characters selected were good choices (though I really would prefer a more diverse selection... ex: 'Where the ladies at?') and I hope they don't release any information about the hidden characters.

I love surprises.

Yup unfortunately, that is the only cast, 10 heroes and 10 villains and the possibility of the two Gods: Cosmos and Chaos entering the cast, but not confirmed, neither is know if they will be playable. About secret characters there is a very few probability they exist. =/

But all the characters surely won't be avaible at beginning, that would steal al the fun of the game.

'Where the ladies at?.
The sex is relevant, the 10 Villains and Heroes are the protagonists and antagonists of their respective Final Fantasy. So the choice was pretty obvious before it was even made.

We can always hope for Dissidia 2 and a more wide variety of characters.

I was kinda hoping for possible different character skins as unlockable outfits, eg. Maybe hidden Seifer outfit for Squall, Kain outfit for Cecil, Shuyin outfit for Tidus, or Zack outfit for Cloud.

But meh... it seems kind of unlikely :(

Luneth will one of the alternate costumes for Onion Knight, so that might be possible. If that happens take in mind that the voices are most likely to be the same (Cloud and Zack,Squall and Seifer etc...) and the storyline as well. Only the "character" will change.

In the due time, we will know more news, its just a few more weeks for Dissidia to come out, we will know everything by then. I am hoping for Chaos and Cosmos at least to be the "Secret" playable characters. :)

I just hope there will be more than 5 or 7 secret characters!!

As Ruka says we only have less than a month to wait to find out. I'm pretty sure some people over in Japan will stay up all night to complete it, so we'll likely find out about secret characters within a few days of its Japanese release.
Until then... We have a month of dreaming...

I don't think a Shuyin outfit for Tidus is too much of a leap for them to add in. They were practically the same. Same face, same voice (I think, I never got into X-2 though)... So that could work.

The only problem with that would be that Shuyin is more of a villain than a hero. Well, maybe not either one of those, but that's besides the point. Maybe he could be a secret character for the villain side?

I'm satisfied with that. It's not like I play fighting games for an amazing storyline.

Also, by the looks of the main cast, it seems to be primarily sword weilders/mages. My only concern for the game is that it's going to lack fighting diversity. In order for a fighting game to be enjoyable there needs to be a diverse moveset, which might be pretty limited if all the characters have similar weapons. For that reason I hope they AT LEAST add a Lancer/Fighter character to the secret roster. Kain and Tifa come to mind. Maybe even a gunner could work? That'd be an awsome excuse to add in Yuna

Considering this is pretty much the FF version of the Smash Bros concept, I don't think it's too much to ask for a variable moveset.

I don't agree totally, IF they were to be made, I'm sure everyone would complain, I mean what a hell is Square Enix doing, Seifer with Squall's voice and same moves.

Now, if you say they would be free-mode characters only, with their respective VA's and a few interaction with their rivals (Zack with Seph and Cloud, Seifer with Ultimecia and Squall etc...) I would fully support that. :)

And your right, there are only fighters and mages, and if your worry about diversity, there are a lot of spells, awesome skill attacks from various Final Fantasies. You won't see all characters attacking the same way or casting the same spells. According to Wikia every character is unique, even Bartz by mimicing them all. :P

about the jobs, I hope your voice is heard... but maybe in Dissidia 2 or so. :neomon:

Well I used to think this when I heard that most of the characters chosen were the main leading males... I thought to myself "the gameplay for this must be crap, as surely, they'd all be the same?"

But I think they've tackled it well to make them all unique.

Warrior of Light is an all round fighter. A bit of everything I think, and is a bit average in everything when it comes to moves etc.

Firion I think uses the main weapons that could be used in FF2 (sword, bow, club or whatever), and I think he somehow merges the fighting with each of these into one.

Onion Knight can do very oniony things. :D. Nah, but he can transform into a Ninja or Sage, making him unique. I don't know much more about what he can do.

Cecil can switch from his Dark Knight to his Paladin form, and both forms seem to act differently, and the weapon is wisely chosen as a sort of spear rather than the would-be-repetitive sword.

Bartz is interesting in that he can mimic the moves or weapons of other characters, so basically the possibilities of him will vary according to the player I'm guessing.

Terra is unique in that she is female, and she uses a lot of magic (I'm guessing). So she will act as like the "good sorceress" in the game, which can explain why in the latest trailer she's seen avoiding magic from Ultimecia (who I guess she must clash with in the game).

Cloud we know what to expect from him... Massive truck-sized sword that can slice through anything.

Squall - again he's more familiar with people. Gun-blade type attacks etc, very different from other characters.

Zidane - again, very different. Fast, agile, and his weapons are two daggers that can be merged to form a single poley, swingy knifey thingy (stop me if I'm being too technical:cool:).

Tidus has his brotherhood, and also uses the blitzball in battle, like Wakka did. I think that is a nice twist on his fighting style that I can't wait to see played out.

So really, when I sat down and thought about them... Despite the main cast of heroes all being the main (mainly) male characters, the team who worked on Dissidia have done a grand job at making them very diverse in their fighting styles and, from what we have seen, look very different in battle.

Oh yeah, I saw this in the trailer. That is one of the main things I think look VERY cool. In fact, when I first saw it I had a little fangirlish moment

...but I was a little confused as to why he had a spear. But hey, it's all good. It adds some spice to the character.

I agree that everyone would complain. I'm not really picky I guess. It'd just be nice to play without being restricted to just the main characters we've already tirelessly played as in their respective games, even if it is just the avatar that's different.

Storylines in fighting games have always been pretty meh to me... but then again, this is Squenix. I believe they said this game would have more dialogue than Crisis Core (?), so if the storyline is good, that's an added bonus, but it's not really what I'm looking forward to.

To keep it very blunt, all I really expect out of this game is to see my favourite characters beat on eachother :P Everything else is icing on the cake, so to speak.

I want Dissidia to have alot of secret characters and cameos of some ff characters.

I know, thats the reason they added 1 Hero and 1 Villain, Its the first release so, you can't expect everything we want on the game, its also a PSP system, so it also has to be cut short on some things. But we can always hope for a PS3 Version. :)

Hahaha I see, I would love to see my favorite characters beating each others, hopefully that will come true with the ones here. :wacky:

I can't wait for the game, the dialogues between the characters, and a whole new Final Fantasy to explore. I loved Ergheiz, but this one beats it. :neomon:

We now know that this isn't the full cast, thanks to Shantotto being confirmed.

One question... Do you think that secret characters will have villain counterparts? Or are they standalone?

I honestly don't know. :neomon:
But my guess is that if Gilgamesh or any other lone-type character enters the cast, my intuition is right, and there will be characters who don't follow Chaos or Cosmos, but are there serving a playing a different role.

Also some character have shown to cooperate regarless who they follow and fighting amongst themselves wich means the game isn't good vs evil but rather Free for all or something close to it. As everyone has a different goal and believes. I'm not seeing Sephiroth or Kefka being someones Pawns, as expected.

Yes, but she Follows Cosmos! so that means she ain't a "lone" character and there is probably a antagonist and thats most likely to be Shadow Lord.

wasn't an FFXI character just announced?

Yes. Shantotto has been confirmed.

So the answer to this thread is, therefore, that there will be more than the 20 original confirmed characters for Dissidia.

The question now is how many secret characters will there be? Or is Shantotto even a secret character? Or is she joining the main cast?

If so, then who will the secret characters be? If any?

If she is a secret character, will she be standalone? Or will she be doubled with a villain? And how many secret pairs will there be?
