Admins and mods who abuse their power

I got thinking about this from another thread regarding PMs from admins and such and I remembered when I was banned from a forum without any warning. The forum shall remian nameless, but I was well known on their for sometimes being a god-mod and I had a few warnings due to it. But I stopped doing it after I got a frim warning from a mod. But I was also known for my likes and signature workshop.

Now on this forum there were members that were abusive and horrid towards me, yet nothing was done untill I fought back, which personally is ridiculous! The mods only stepped in when I fought back at these members and yes it did upset me. I had alot of friends on that forum and I do miss them. Other members went up agaisnt the mods when I was banend and were threated with being banned also if they didnt stop asking why I was being banned.

The admin who banned me never got on with me from the start and had taken an immdate dislike to me because I never agreed with him on some topics and then 1 day when I was having an arguement with another member I was banned for a comment without any warning. I was told in MSN that they would lift the ban in 2 years!? That is ridiculous as in 2 years I may not have a PC or want to be a member of that community after this.

Has anyone else experinced mods or admins who used their powers and favoured some members over others? Were they unfair and treated you horribly? Like I said this thread is not about the past few events that have occured here, so no dragging that all up again thank you!
 
Oh...my...God, I didn't think that happened to anyone but me! I've told my story already. The power-thirsty admin who always tried to make an example out of me to prove how big and bad he is. Four other members, including a mod, viciously flaming a guy for no reason, and no one doing a damn thing about it. The dreaded admin PM which called me an asshole, because I didn't let them sweep everything under the rug. Man, I thought that forum (Which shall also remain nameless) was the only one that did that bullspit.
 
Well you arent alone. I didnt think that people would do such a thing on something as simple as a forum. You would think forums are laid back, yet obey the rules and watch after members. But no, you get 1 bad apple and the rest follow because they are terrified of their pity internet power being taken away. I usually see the bad mods and admins as losers in real life who never get their own way or have their own say, so in a way its their way of feeling important.

Me? No. If I ever joined a forum where I knew the staff were notorious assholes, I'd intentionally avoid them at all costs. Doesn't mean to say I won't share my thoughts once in a while, and I wouldn't avoid them out of fear... rather the distaste for them. I try being constructive with my arguments, so whenever I do have that confrontation with an admin, I know what the hell I'm talking about... and I'm civil.

Although in an argument, being civil takes you a long way. I hope I never encounter this kind of immature behaviour though. Rest assured, no staff here would dare do such a thing. ;p
 
What immature behaviour? Sticking up for myself agaisnt another member? Or not having the same opinion as an admin?
I find it immature that mods dont do their jobs and chose certain members over others.
 
Admins and Mods abuse their power every day,most people only notice it if something unfair has happend to them.

Can people take this seriously please? Abusing power be it in real life or on the Internet is wrong.

Yuor absolutly right. Dictators, whether off or on the internet, should check themselves before they decide to abuse carefully given power. It'll run people away from them. And no one wants to be alone on the internet...:cool:

I was referring to the staff members in question being immature, not you. Sorry if you interpreted my post that way. :p

Other than the episode with DB, can you actually justify this? No, didn't think so.
 
I've been a part of forums for close to 5 years now, FF one's mainly, and haven't joined the ranks of "Forum Moderator" until late 2006. That means I spent4 whole years on mainly 3 different forums, just being my regular old self, posting, and getting to know everyoen before being promoted.

With this time, I've "been there, and done that" so-to-say. I'm thankful that I've given people the chance to see me post as just a "regular member" over that time to basically soup up my reputation in posting and those of you who have known me for a while can attest to that. Since I waited 4 years to finally decide to jump on the "Staff" side of things, members who know me can clearly say that if there's a problem, they know they can come to me and I'll do all I can to help them out and fix any trouble they are in.

Being a staff member is a privilage, and though we are given authority on an internet board, we do need to realize our place as a "staff member". We are all equal in one way or another, so respect towards your fellow forum-mates should be given wisely and fairly I believe.
 
I know for a fact what forum your speaking off SapphireStar i was banned for a completely different reason which really does not matter and all:rolleyes:

But i completely agree i created a second account because they never answered my emails so i got banned forever i believe!:P


They didn´t gave me no reason for my banning and other members who were more "popular" or "veterans" were much more well protected i mean they made threads just to spam and yet the mods don´t do anything!

I think the problem is that you give 16,17 and so on year olds...the power to control a forum and they tend to abuse their authority! And if you ask me as soon as they do that they should lose their powers as moderators because it´s really unfair that you try to defend yourself and you end up getting banned with a motive like "You´re stupid!":dry:

As for this forum i have no problems whatsoever so far;)
 
I not been on the recieving end of anything but i have witnessed it before. I don't mind mods doing things but i think the way some talk can be a little off. Thats the only thing that narks me. Especially when they are younger than me!

Its mainly those who think they are clever. The only ones to lose out are themselves.

Of course i think all the mods here are cool xXx mwah xXx

I know a ex/member who abused(well kind of) their power once.I wont tell you their name or show you the post, because I dont wont to affect their reputation.

Lets just say this ex/member has got a unusally large fanbase.

Lol, no Im sorry about that, got the wrong end of the stick!

And @ Jimmy, I agree that sometimes the age of the mod can be called into question, but there are some young mods on here who do a good job and on other forums. But sometimes the mod can be alot older then myself, like the forum I was banned from and spoke to me as if I was a child and believed they were better then me.

In other news, when mods continue to post in locked threads, I consider it a textbook case of power abuse. Unfortunately, I’ve been guilty of this as well :P.

That happened on a different forum I used to post in. This guy left with a big F-U-all message, insulting many members in the process.(Of course...:rolleyes:) Then a mod locked the topic, but all of the other mods were posting in it as well just because the guy said nice things about them. I thought ''Shouldn't this topic be removed?''
 
hmm i really hate it when mods who are younger than me start to make an argument at me when i have something like.....higher posts/threads or something like that and they call it undermining their authority which gets me peeved when they think they can ban me for having something higher than them and i have never been nasty with them on the contrary i was very respectful and nice with them so i think all that power really got to their head.....
