I...hope there is not another thread like this. Rofl.

Anyways, In FFXII you had gotten the option of Wait or Active mode.

Wait mode being when you chose commands all time freezes and waits for you to pick an action. This is somewhat for newer players or players who liked the CTB gauge within FFX where you get time to pick out what you want.

Active mode being where when you pick a command and time still progresses and enemies can still attack and strike you at any point. Somewhat like FFX-2. I guess this can be considered for more experienced players or ones who want to make it more "realistic"

So my question is...which did you pick/play with?

This is in FFs 7-9 maybe more.
I liked the active because i found out something the enemies don't stop they still go. It makes it hard to win fights if when they attack you wait and when you attack they don't have to.
Ex In FF8 there is a T-Rexer that will kill you quickly it is a pain when you start trying to beat him but you have to wait for him too attack and guess what he targets the one that would kill him.

Well I choose wait. I mean it would suck to be sitting there trying to pick out your actions and being laid waste to the whole time.

I chose Active mode, I found wait mode to be far too boring for me. I found that the Active mode kept the battle system interesting for me. The constant stopping with the wait mode just annoyed me.

*Thread moved as this is in multiple FF games and not just FFXII*

active because it makes me feel as if i have more control over the battle then i really did. It felt a lot more real when i had little time to react. Though wait gives you more time to plan, active forces you to make decisions quick.

I always set the ATB to Active, only in a few battles I set it to Wait.

I set it to Active for the reason it gaves the game more realistic gameplay and allows to quickly input commands one after another and while your attacking with a member the rest of your team can get ready for their next turn.

I only set the ATB to Wait when facing certain bosses were I won't be inputting commands very quickly and 'Aciddentaly' do a mistake, those fights include Against: Yiazmat, Omega MKXII and a few more.

I always set my Cursor to Memory, so I can quickly repeat any actions, that helps a little.

I set it to wait until I've got the hang of the system, and then turn it on active when I'm confident and I know what I'm doing xD Or If it's a really really tough battle, I'll turn on wait so I can have some thinking time.

Active, just for the fact it's much more challenging and thus more interesting.

I didn't mind wait mode in FF12 because it allowed you to turn off gambits without making the game impossible. When you get all the strong spells and gambits you can pretty make your party invincible. Wait mode in that case can put an interesting spin on the battle system. I found it a little annoying though, because I found the constant camera change irritating.

I just used whatever the default settings were on FFXII  , except I put the battle time up to fast, and as I got the Swiftness licences with Vaan I would decrease the battle time by a notch, apart from on the 5 minute time limit battle with the Esper in the Barheim Passage.
I have used these settings for all FF games anyway, as the character levels up and their ready time becomes shorter, i would decrease the battle time in order to make it more like the start of the game, although the change if you keep the settings is sometimes not noticeable as you continue to go along your journey, if you watch the meter on the fastest setting at the start of FFVII when you hop off the train, and towards the end in battles before you fight Sephiroth, the change is substantial if you don't alter the settings through the game. Although I think that you definately need the fastest speed set when you face Emerald Weapon otherwise you will ultimately time out

Uh... wow, it never occured to me that increasing the battle speed would make levelling easier. I think I just had a revelation about something totally obvious to everyone else -__-

and there's a way to get rid of the timer when you face Emerald Weapon :monster:

Concerning XII, just default settings, didn't realise you could change them!
For overall preference, I prefer Active. Wait is boring, and takes the fun out of battling.

I never heard of it until now. I do know that swiftness decreases the ATB in FFXII (as its pretty obvious) but I don't worry as I always have the ATB to Active.

I noticed that the ATB randomly starts at a certain % (when reach 100 you can act) but I never knew whats the formula for its happening, like some hidden %.

don't hold me to that by the way. It could have just been my perception being off it's been a long time since I played FFVII and i was a young pup back then, seems to be the case in FFXII for me though, or do I need my eyes checking

I tought so, by setting your ATB to Active wouldn't increase exp. But its true that the ATB gauge increase much more faster than Wait, as you need the member to perform the selected command before the bar rises again, while in active is almost always rising. (excluding a few actions, like summoning)

Thats correct, in FFXII the ATB decreases due to swiftness as each swiftness augment decreases the ATB by 20%. (or around that)

just looking back on my original post, sorry if it was slightly misleading, I didn't actually mean to say that increasing the ATB speed helps you to level up quicker by giving more exp, what I meant to say was that as characters level up the ATB meter fills quicker (as the characters SPD increases), so I would turn the ATB refill time down so that it would fill at the same speed it did at the start, i was always a bit slow with the commands :P

Active, I've always gone for active and sped the battle speed up as fast as I can, I'm too impatient to wait...although, in trickier boss battles, I really should think about changing it to wait so I an have some thinking time :wacky:

Definatly active. Wait is too slow and boring. Active feels much more like your in a real battle. You dont have as much time to think as you would like and have to plan on the spot. It makes the game harder, especially at max speed. So active gets my vote.

to be truly honest, i norally switch between the two, if im busy with other things like chatting via msn/phone, then i set it to wait, if im fully focused on the games its normally set to active, and then i have to take into account of my mood which could vary depending on the day

Active definitely, the battles are so slow and irratating otherwise. Wait is for people who are either
(a) beginners
(b)hungover
