I haven't seen this anywhere, sorry if I missed it if there is another thread like this. I don't know if I'm even the first person to come up with this theory, but I was curious anyways. This contains spoilers for those who haven't played X or X-2.

~

A couple of days ago I remembered a theory I had about Shuyin and Tidus. The theory is this -

That Tidus was the fayth's memory of Shuyin.

Before we start shouting I'm crazy (which I am, but that's besides the point XD) here's why I think that.

~

The Zanarkand Tidus was from was a dream of the fayth, and it was made of the fayth's memories of the past Zanarkand, therefore Tidus would have been one of their memories as well.

Fayth - The dreams of the fayth summoned the memories of the city. They summoned all the buildings, all the people who lived there.

Tidus - The people... What, they're all dreams? Me too?

Shuyin was the one who was real, the one who was actually the Blitzball player. If he was well known and famous for playing Blitzball, then he probably would've been remembered, if not that then he would've been remembered by the fayth for what happened when he went to Bevelle to save Lenne.

Their personalities are highly similar.

Granted, in X-2 Shuyin was angry and vengeful, but his spirit has been left to build up that anger and hate for 1,000 years after he and Lenne were killed. But the similarities come when it comes to their relationships to Lenne and Yuna (though it's really hard to say since not a whole lot is actually revealed about Shuyin before he was killed). Both women that they loved were summoners and well loved by the people. Both Tidus and Shuyin were bound and determined to save them no matter what it took, knowing that Yuna and Lenne were both facing inevitable death. Only thing with this is that I don't think Tidus would have tried to use Vegnagun and sacrifice millions of lives all for Yuna. Only thing I can really think of about that one is that the fayth are trying to remember something from a thousand years ago, and as such memories fade or blur so they can't always be accurate.

Their Overdrives are the exact same.

Sure the Overdrives may have had different names, but they were the exact same. I don't really see the logic in Square Enix giving the same Overdrives to two people who are supposedly separate characters.

Their clothes are almost the exact same.

Again, the fayth's memories might not be entirely accurate since it's been 1,000 years and memories fade. But the fact that their clothes are similiar is also very strange.

~

I realize I'm no genious for thinking this up and I'm probably far from the first person to do so, but I was simply curious to see what people thought ^_^

O.O Wow! I did not think of that before. I've always thought that Tidus and Shuyin were two different people...and well, are they or are they not? It is indeed strange that they dress similarly. And then Yuna and Lenne dressed the same too. So you kinda wondered if Yuna and Tidus are the reincarnation of Lenne and Shuyin.

Ah well, we'll never know. SE has a way of leaving it up to the players to assume and interpret for themselves.

Maybe the Fayth summoned Tidus in Shuyin's memory because they knew that he would want to protect the summoner figure...

I've always wondered this...I had to make a thread on it because it was bugging me o________o I always thought they were two different people too, but I started thinking about it and wondering. I think Lenne and Yuna are two separate entities (though it kinda makes me wonder sometimes since they're sorta similar too), but it's hard to tell with Tidus and Shuyin.

I like that SE leaves it to people though. Even if it's wrong I kinda like envisioning that Tidus and Shuyin are the same.

@ Rhea That's a good point o_O

@ Dark Fantasy X Okay, I'd love to hear what she has to say! Since I've been kinda eager to know the answer on it ^_^

It makes sense to me...you may be right.

So you kinda wondered if Yuna and Tidus are the reincarnation of Lenne and Shuyin.

Yuna wasn't a dream of the Fayth though.

okay that is a possibility, but not highly likely either, but it is possible, but then why didn't they make a lenne as well?
They probably did make a Lenne type person in the dream Zanarkand. But Tidus was the only person who left the dream Zanarkand and travelled to spira.

Although not proven, or given direct/indirect indication of these things being true... I must say, I hold your theory in quite a high regard.

The following content is a filler. I have no real other input. D'=

Because Tidus would find Yuna more attractive than what Lenne would ^_^ Tidus' purpose was to form a bond with Yuna so he would offer to become the Final Summoning, kill Yuna then become Sin...I don't understand why though...that's why in the game if you speak to Auron he keeps saying "Go to Yuna" so the bond would be formed.

I just prefer to think of it as two different stories who are interlinked. Even if there is some hidden link between Shuyin and Tidus I think it makes for a better story if there wasn't anyway.

Often I find that hidden meanings and such just 1.annoy me and 2. take some of the basic fun out of the game.

Ive always thought that Tidus was the Fayths memory of Shuyin

Hmm, good point. I never thought of it that way. That would indeed explain the similarities, such as the clothes and appearance. (Although I think Shuyin is slightly better-looking and is more of a bad ass.)

This is a very good theory, although there is no dream fayth of Lenne as far as we know. This is something I've had on my mind and your theory just fills in some blanks if it is correct.
