Remember Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Dimensions trademark? We speculated that it may end up being the western title for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. However, this morning, Square Enix revealed that Dimensions is actually an iOS and Android title. The game’s official website went live this morning, and you can view it here.

Square Enix USA will be bringing Final Fantasy Dimensions to E3. Here’s how they describe the game:

“Drawing upon the roots of the series with such features as beautiful 2D pixel art, job-driven character growth, additional scenarios in which to inherit the jobs of your adventuring companions, and a classic story of light, darkness, and crystals, Final Fantasy Dimensions delivers the best of Final Fantasy, retro and fresh alike, directly to your smartphone.”

Final Fantasy Dimensions will be released for iOS platforms this summer.

Update: Siliconera reader, Pete, points out that the logo for Final Fantasy Dimensions looks very similar to the one for Final Fantasy Legends: Warrior of Light and Darkness, an episodic 2010 cell phone game. Perhaps this is a port of that game? Thanks, Pete!

Update 2: Square Enix say that Dimensions will also be on Android.

*facepalm*

This is going to FAAAAAAAAALL~ On it's face so hard it;s not even funny.

Oh Squeenix, what would we do without your IOS Obsession?

(though, If it was ported to a console/Handheld that isn't a phone...It Might actually be good!)

It's actually a game for regular mobile phones ported to smartphones. (yes I'm not trolling.)

My point still stands that it's a phone game.

While PHone games have been successful they no where achive the highest amount of popularity than handheld/Console games. And It has the added fact that Phone games are worked much less on than Console games. and Most popular phone games are ports. (FFIII, Plants Vs Zombies, Angry Birds.)

Well.....I'll probably end up giving it a shot. But like Mockingjay said, this is likely to flop.

I really don't understand why SE would want to make an IOS game like this. I understand games like Angry Birds are popular, but games like that are played in levels and are meant to be minor time consuming games, and not full length RPGs. I tried playing FF1 on my iPod touch but I just never really got that far in the game. I prefer playing my FFs on a console at home and not while waiting at the doctor's office. While in those settings I like to play games like Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, that one with the penguin that I can't remember the name of.....lol.

I'll probably end up checking it out even though im not a huge fan of playing games on phones.

That's if im actually able to stop the gf from playing Temple Run on my phone long enough to do so... :wacky:

Nope. This is getting too predictable. -flips desk-

I wish I could just go to sleep and check back five years from now to see if Square Enix got any better or any worse. What a bloody waste of time.

Oh SE.... what ARE you doing ?!!:gonk: I agree that this not going to work and is going to flop badly. This would of been better off not really happening at all. Maybe as a 3DS game; but only just maybe.

The whole character class monk, white mage, warrior etc has been done alot lalety and is no longer fresh or revived plus there's no way a person is going to play a full lenglthy J-RPG on the bus to school or work...

BusDriver : Okay that's the last stop the Bus station home are you getting off ? I went passed all the schools hours ago ?

Student : Yeah; yeah hang on ! I just gotta get passed this boss !!

BusDriver : Whatevers I'm leaving you here on the Bus...

Student : Concertating on the game

= The next day =

BusDriver : Oi what the F @^&% are you doin' here still ? GO HOME !

Student : I got passed the boss !! Finally yaaay !!

BusDriver : Get off the flippin buss !!

Student : Can you take me to school ? I think I might be a bit late....

BusDriver :...... Hit me.....

Student : Oooooh new boss !

Yeah. Not going to happen. :ffs:

The problem with SE is they are thinking FF is going to take off like angry birds. Sadly, it wont. Not much will. It;s going to be little time waster games and not RPG's.

Dimensions - as in one dimensional due to horrible touch screen controls

Sorry but any Final Fantasy games made after FF7 no longer exist in SE's mind unless it's the first two or four.

The chances of recieving anything for FF5's anniversey you have a better chance of a group of cows falling out of the sky wearing angel costumes and eating hotdogs. -__-

So, we can expect an anniversary version of FFV soon, then? :awesome:

[07/06] If You’re A Fan Of Final Fantasy V, You Might Dig Final Fantasy Dimensions

While Final Fantasy looks more like an action movie with each installment, Final Fantasy Dimensions is a throwback to the series’ 16-bit glory days and it’s made by Final Fantasy IV designer Takashi Tokita. Final Fantasy Dimensions has a new story about two groups of warriors, but the E3 demo only let me play as the Light Warriors.

Final Fantasy Dimensions uses the job system from Final Fantasy V and all of the basic jobs: Knight, White Mage, Black Mage, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, and Summoner were unlocked. The game also has more jobs for the Light and Dark characters. Since all of the characters were maxed out I decimated enemies using powerful spells like Comet (a black magic attack) and summoning Diablos. "Yeah, this is kind of like classic Final Fantasy," I thought as I watched Odin glide across the screen.

About the screen… Final Fantasy Dimensions doesn’t have same level of Square Enix polish when it comes to presentation. I’m not talking about the sprites, which certainly have their charm. It’s the interface. When you tap the screen to move your character on the map a GIANT icon with four arrow pops up. The battle menus look slapped on too.

But, if you have a hankering for classic Final Fantasy and miss the job system Final Fantasy Dimensions might satiate you when it comes to iOS and Android this summer.

It sounds good. I think I will buy this if it's not ridiculously overpriced like FFIII and Chaos Rings II :ffs:

ok I got to admit this looks pretty fun BUT...... where was my prediction of a super awesome cross over game for final fantasy's 25th anniversity hmmmmm :hmmm: oh well this still looks really fun and if it will work on my original galaxy S or my IPad 2 i'm soooo getting this :wacky:

But you miss the point, its been expected to be on phone since its been a phone game for 2 years only released internationally under the 25th anniversary.

My point was that it was going to suck because it was on a phone. It doesn't matter if it was out for 5 years beforehand, It's a phone game. And they never sell well. (The examples above we're ports. FYI)

Whether they sell well or not shouldnt depend on the quality. It looks like a good game. Who cares about sales. And it seems phone games have become more and more popular.

You upset about the wrong thing.

EDIT: guess the problem i have with your point is you sound like you just found about it and hating as if it was done now for something done years ago. Where was the hate back then when it was released as Final Fantasy Legends: Hikari to Yami no senshi?

It doesnt even sound like you reminiscing on the hate for back then. It sounds lke you never heard of final fantasy legends and treating it like a brand new game.

It just seems poorly justified. Its like getting mad at ff7:crisis core for releasing in the US on PSP (the same console it released in japan). Even if someone did hate for being on psp a more reasonable responce would be:

"I still cant believe its on PSP" or "if only they ported it to something more popular"
