The upcoming issue of Jump provides details on two of the more mysterious areas of Final Fantasy XIII-2, the Caius character and the Fragment system.

Regarding Caius, fully Caius Ballad, the magazine reveals that he is in pursuit of Noel. He has tremendous strength.

However, he is cold and does not show his feelings, so no one can tell what his goals or thoughts are.

As previously detailed, Fragment is the name for the quests you clear in the game's various time periods. What's actually going on is, you're clearing up time paradoxes in each era.

When you clear a paradox, you receive a fragment as your reward. The fragments are inscribed with bits of knowledge and folklore/legends.

Oh thank god! Noel and Caius are not related. At least that eliminates more stupidity. Ballad is a weird name though. Thankfully, his lst name is not Kreiss

Caius Ballad? I've seen worse.
*points to N's real name in the latest Pokemon games*

*sigh* Does it ALWAYS have to be cold villains? Why can't we have another one with a sense of humour? It doesn't have to be a maniac like Kefka, just someone who understands the meaning of a joke.

*ignores the crap about time paradoxes and fragments, because Caius is the only thing that matters*

Caius and Noel look related... :hmmm: They still could be! Perhaps he has changed his name? :lew: Perhaps he's another version of Noel who lives in Valhalla... I'm speculating a lot here. :monster:

Anyway, I like the idea of folklore and legends! I have read complaints about this sort of thing in a FF game, but I personally think it will add more depth to the world, without that being forced through the story and/or dialogue. :)
