[this isn't the new game - it's just to show what Dark Void looks like for those of you unaware]

Square Enix are collaborating with Dark Void's developer, Airtight Games, on a new project, which is scheduled to be revealed at the Penny Arcade Expo this weekend. Square and Airtight will be holding a joint panel to discuss the game.

Performing the duties of creative director will be Kim Swift, previously involved with games such as Portal, Half Life 2, Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. She’s also credited on Fat Princess. Square Enix describe the game as “incredibly fascinating and quirky”.

The panel will be held on Saturday, August 25th at 7 PM.

Don't Square Enix think that they've revealed enough new games for now? How many does this make now that they've announced but not released? Whilst I think his points are a little crudely put sometimes, here I am in firm agreement with Jim Sterling: Square Enix should not be allowed to announce more than two games per year, and if they do, then Yoichi Wada should get a boot right up his arse. I wonder, how long are we going to have to wait for this next title? Three years, or am I perhaps being too optimistic here? Will it be worth the wait?

On a minor note...Dark Void? That game was AWFUL. Although I can think of poorer resumes than the one Kim Swift has so hopefully, whatever this game is, it won't be lacking in the creativity and fun department.

Quirky? wtf does that mean? :hmmm: is that equivalent to odd? I have to agree with Jim Sterling as well...however I have respect for SE still doing many investments and putting time in other projects...its just sad the end products tend to be shit......

We'll see but I bet it will suck anyway...

:hmmm:

Perhaps something out of the box? I hope it is at least something new to S-E. It better not just be another JRPG.

Aaaaaand this is that game:

Square officially announces Quantum Conundrum

Square Enix has officially announced Quantum Conundrum, Airtight Games’ latest from Kim Swift of Portal fame.

The first-person platform puzzler has players taking on the role of a young kid dropped off on his uncle’s doorstep for the weekend. Professor Fitz Quadwrangle is an inventor whose mansion has been retrofitted with crazy technology to test his latest hypotheses, and he has gone missing due to his strange experiments.
Players will need to use the Inter-Dimensional Shift Device, which, at the press of a button, will shift the world around them to an entirely new dimension. In order to find him, players must use the device to dynamically change the world to and from a variety of different dimensions to progress through the manor.
“We wanted to create a fun, quirky puzzle game that anyone would want to play, regardless of age or gaming experience,” said Kim Swift, creative director at Airtight Games.
“I’ve been working with an amazing and collaborative team on this project and look forward to coming into the office every day to hear new ideas, see what everyone has created, and dive in on my own pieces of the game. We’ve created something that we’re all extremely proud of and hope that people will enjoy playing it as much as we are making it.”
Game features:
  • Engaging Puzzle Gameplay: Using the Inter-Dimensional Shift Device, players will shift to and from various dimensions to manipulate the world around them and clear levels with increasing degrees of difficulty.
  • Experience New Dimensions: Each dimension the player gains access to becomes a valuable asset to manipulate objects in the manor in a specific way. For example, the Fluffy Dimension makes heavy objects ten times lighter, enabling players to move what was once an immovable safe from one place to the next.
  • Immersive, Interactive Environment: In addition to the various dimensions allowing the player to learn new skills and techniques, the look and feel of each dimension is completely distinct. When shifting to the Fluffy Dimension, everything in the room becomes soft and plushy like a cuddly version of its previous state. Every dimension carries its own atmosphere, letting the player feel like they are truly in the world.
  • Unique Art Style and Humor: The Professor’s manor and all the items within it have a unique style, but that’s not all. Players should be on the lookout for humorous touches and jokes scattered throughout the manor home. Who wouldn’t want to know what the infamous Professor Quadwrangle looks like in the Fluffy Dimension?
Those attending PAX Prime will be the first to see Quantum Conundrum through a panel being held Saturday, August 27 at 7.00pm PST.
Quantum Conundrum was unveiled by Gamespot yesterday, which also came with a video walkthrough featuring Swift, as well as the debut trailer.
The digital title will be made available in early 2012 for Steam, PC, PSN and XBL.
