As you may have heard, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy features a classic Final Fantasy job system most similar to Final Fantasy V. This week, new information and images of the game’s job system shed light on what details we can expect.

After battle, each character accrues JP (Job Points) for the current job they have equipped. Functioning like experience points, after each Job level up, a new ability is unlocked for each of the Job’s ten levels. Abilites range from in-battle commands such as the first level of Black Magic (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder) or Cover (Knight ability to take hits for allies), to support abilities such as HP+10%.

You’ll also be able to mix and match abilities you’ve learned from different jobs for a variety of different effects. Since White Mages in particular have lower HP and defense, you can stack support skills from meatier jobs to give them more survivability. There are a wide variety of ability combinations you can use to your advantage or disadvantage if poorly planned.

The game will also make use of a feature called Party Chat, in which the four protagonists will converse with each other about the current events in the story, like a cutscene would play out. There are a lot of these cutscenes, and it’s implied that some of them will be rare to trigger.

Bravely Default will also include a special “Collector’s Pack” exclusive to Japan’s Square Enix eStore — retailing for ¥12800. You can view the listing for the Collector’s Pack by clicking here. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy releases October 11th, 2012 in Japan.

It includes:
+ Bravely Default: Flying Fairy game
+ Original Soundtrack
+ Artbook
+ 3DS Protection Case
+ Augmented Reality poster

Im not too keen on the FFV battle system, but Im interested in the game since it's been penned by the writer of Steins Gate.

This game looks epic and everything so I really want this so bad. :gasp:

OK, NOW this game has my attention.

FFV's battle system was good for it's time I think, but it's horrendously dated now, so I'd expect more out of the game than that. It looks like a slightly updated version of FFIII visually, which isn't bad; the 3DS is capable of more, but good quality gameplay > graphics, so I'll reserve judgement on that.

...and to be honest, I love special editions. They're a waste of money, but I can't help myself. I doubt I'll buy this unless I either get to play a demo, a friend recommends it to me, or it drops significantly in price, but maybe it won't be a COMPLETE disaster. But I'll not hold my breath...plus I'm still pissed with the ending Steins;Gate had, and don't even get me started on the OVA...

Oh wow, the cover and artbook look so good :gasp:. The game looks more serious than FF3, in the characters' expressions and class designs (looking at the...black mage clothes that the female character is wearing). It looks like there's gonna be more story than in FF3 too, so I'm well pleased about that too.

Is there any news about some sort of special edition coming to the EU too? So long as I like the demo, that would be a must buy just from what's been shown so far.

Can't wait

Ughh this looks actually GOOD. Too bad I'm not willing to get a 3DS just for this game... I wish it was on major consoles instead. They could make it LOOK better, and it'd probably reach a larger audience.

... but then it'd take them at least 5 years to work on. -_-

I was interested in this just for the fact it sounds like FFT hell the menus look like it as well, I liked the Job system fine in FF5 tbh if you wanna hate a job system hate FFT's gaining JP on that game is a nightmare without using cheats to keep it from going down when you buy a skill ~.~;;

Like a few others since its on the 3DS I probably wont buy it since I'd have to buy the handheld so I'll miss out on this sadly.

Hope it turns out good for SE God knows they need to send out a good game thats on the DS that isn't a KH Spinoff

im nnot really interested in the game. alk limited editions look crazy good. that and the artwork is great but i dont like how it looksin gameplay.

[27/07] Bravely Default: Fourth Character Revealed, Fourth Demo Coming Soon

The identity of Bravely Default's mysterious fourth character has ben revealed in this week's Jump. According to Tales Source, which gets Jump in advance, the character's name is Ringabel (in Japanese, リングアベル -- feel free to suggest a better romanization).

Of course, what we've really been wondering since the character's artwork first appeared on the game's soundtrack jacket earlier this month is, male or female? The answer is male -- and quite the male at that! Ringabel is a young man who's lost his memory and is traveling the land in the hopes of courting a girl. He has in his possession the "D Notebook," which provides him with prophesies of things to come.

Ringabel, shown to the far right in this artwork from the Bravely Default soundtrack.

Outside of an introduction to Ringabel, the magazine reveals that the game has a unique summon system. Using Wi-Fi (it's unclear if this is StreetPass or manual Wi-Fi exchanges), you'll be able to exchange your character with others. You can call out characters you've received this way into battle as summons.

Jump's Bravely Default reveals are always accompanied by word of an upcoming demo release. This is the case here. The game's fourth demo will be coming soon, the magazine says. This could mean we'll get the demo next week, so get your 3DS ready!
