Luna won't just be sitting down on a chair, nor will she simply be brushing guns away from her face with a mild look of defiance in her face. Players will see her in action on the battlefield at some point in the game. While you will not be able to directly control the character, director Hajime Tabata has informed us that we will see her exhibit her combat prowess as a guest party member.

This will mark Luna as the second confirmed guest party member to aid you at some point in your adventures. The first is Cor Leonis, a man who had served as a general for Lucis and a fellow warrior on the battlefield along with King Regis himself and a certain man named Cid. While Cor Leonis will temporarily join your party, it turns out you will be the one joining Luna's entourage at some point in the game instead.

Oracle

Now for my favourite: lore tidbits. Luna as we have already established, is an oracle, and the youngest one yet. Adored the world ever, her role is to converse with gods and cleanse the world – to maintain stability and prevent an ominous judgement known as the "Plague of the Star" from arriving. Because of this Plague, as the days go by, the nights also lengthen. Luna is preventing the world from plunging into complete darkness. The long nights will also affect game play. When you advance in the story, the nights get longer. According to Tabata, there is a very important meaning behind the word “dawn.”

An Oracle’s special abilities are passed down through bloodline. The Oracle is supported by people in Niflheim, Lucis and other countries. Her powers were made realised when the Empire imposed its iron fist down on the formerly independent kingdom of Tenebrae.

Her motion of brushing aside the gun depicts the dignity of the Oracle, her mental strength as the Oracle, and her strength of never surrendering to the threat of weapons. She is aided by an equally mysterious figure - a raven-haired woman named Gentiana.

Luna also spent time with Noctis when they were children, due to the injuries he sustained from a near-death experience (similar in concept to the one in Versus). It was a very short time but the promises they made and the memories they shared have been cherished by both. Their arranged marriage is chiefly political and unrelated to their promise. This bond is a basic element similar to the bond between Noctis and his friends and the bond between father and the son. The dogs will play a significant symbolic role.

Luna will likely have also sustained a near-death experience like Noctis, which will be another story beat more or less retained from Versus's Noctis-Stella setup.

King Regis

The man is biologically 50 at the outset of FFXV's story, but has physically aged considerably beyond due to the need to sacrifice one's vitality for the crystal's barrier protection over the nation of Lucis. Such is the unfortunate age of a Lucis monarch - a fate that may also await Noctis. As a consequence, the old king is conflicted as to whether or not he should allow his only son to inherit the throne.

When a king of Lucis dies, their wisdom is passed on to the next generation as part of a rite to keep the royal line ticking. A ring that Nomura mentioned in the past will serve as a significant object, for it is in fact inherited by the person next in line for the throne. One such ring is in Regis's hands. What happens to the ring during Lucis’s invasion? This is a key point – the ring contains both the wisdom and power of the previous king of Lucis. The summoned swords are also inherited from each previous king. In the story, there are items, such as the weapons of previous kings, that Noctis must collect “no matter what.”

Summons

There aren't that many, Tabata has said. The ones that will appear however, will be significant sapient characters of their own, possessing their own willpower, identities, genders, etc. They reside aloft in their own realm, unfeeling towards the goings-on in the human realm. How they think is beyond human comprehension. They will play an important role in the concept of the “power of the stars.”

Meteor

Meteor of Lestallum is as old as the Genesis story of XV. It’s not something Noctis and his friends will investigate while on their journey. Because the meteor’s existence is already there since the “beginning of time” as it were.

Car Radio

About installing a car radio: Tabata is “looking into it.” He’s thinking of two things: playing your own MP3s, and playing Final Fantasy/Square Enix title music. Legal issues surround the first thing (playing your own MP3s). The team’s working on the latter. The car radio is definitely possible in Japan and the United States, but European laws are strict, says Tabata. A pop theme wouldn’t fit within the game’s world so they won’t be exploring that idea either.

Moogles

Tabata: “When I asked about Moogles, there wasn’t enough of a response from the audience [at TGS], so in the end we won’t be adding them in (laugh).” Famitsu: There was pretty big applause… how about we give RT numbers and show users’ real opinions? “I’ll reconsider,” says Tabata.

Music

There is a huge demand for a Shimomura arrangement of the main Final Fantasy theme. Tabata wants to hear it too. Other themes such as the chocobo theme are progressing well.

Fishing

In FFXV, there will be a record of what kinds of fish have been caught. You can catch fish that have lengths of up to one meter. You can fish in lakes, but currently the mini-game does not allow fishing in seas. Tataba thinks it’s cool to add the game while on the boat. How successful you are in fishing doesn’t depend on your level, but rather how well you use the lure.

Buddy Things

Prompto takes photos with his smartphone, and for a certain reason, he wants to save pictures of him and his friends while on the road trip. Gladiolus has been a fan of Coleman and the outdoors since he was a kid, and he’s collected various Coleman items since then. Gladio also likes fighting, so he researches techniques and skills. The skills he learns will be applied in friends’ linked attacks.

Chocobo Riding

Battles can start even if you’re riding on a Chocobo. You won’t fight while on a Chocobo, though. Should your chocobo not want to fight when the battle begins, he’ll run away. The chocobo’s stamina depends on the things you feed it. Good food means chocobos will avoid enemies while bad food allows them to betray you. Because black chocobos are wild, you won’t necessarily be able to ride them.

DLC

Airship as DLC is the more likely outcome at this point. Potential Gilgamesh DLC could contain a scenario. Tabata wants to prepare things for users who want to play even more of XV even after clearing the game. Gilgamesh is a good idea for that, according to him.

March Event

At the March event, Square Enix will announce not only the release date, but also the tech demo’s official name and specifications. At this time, the company will also announce other collaborations (besides Coleman) that are deeply involved with the game’s settings and “real-world” feeling. There will also be a bit of news that “no one is expecting.” It will probably be huge news, says Tabata.

Is it just me or has Luna's back story been changed? Seems like Tabata realizes how big of a reaction it was to remove a character and is trying to modify it.

That seems to be a running theme with this game. Reveal information, people moan, game gets changed. Good on them I guess, but it does make one wonder just how much is ever set in stone. And will the finished product feel cohesive, or will it feel like a hodge-podge mix of fan-requested features?

That being said, this is a good info dump. I do look forward to learning more.

I f only he knew how to make original designs. Luna as an oracle has limitless potential to appear a little more original than a shade of Stella.

The lore surrounding the 'Oracle' is interesting. If we really do see nights getting longer during the game that'll have some interesting effects on gameplay, I can imagine. More goblin pyjama parties, etc.

Now as for Luna... Her role being to mitigate the effects of 'Plague of the Star' lead us to wonder about her name change, but I won't wonder too much about it since it is a done thing, and not something I care so much about. But Stella (meaning 'star') may at first seem more appropriate for this lore. However, perhaps that is one of the very reasons for the change. Maybe it would be bad luck for an oracle to have a name like 'Stella' when her role is to prevent the plague of her namesake. Luna (moon), on the other hand, is often compared to a mirror (and its reflected light rather than generated light was something talked about in antiquity in our world). A cosmic mirror (with its associations of seeing reflective glimpses of the future, or other dimensions, etc) is perhaps better imagery to have for an oracle, looking into the future and trying to prevent a catastrophe.

Luna's role as an oracle also explains (to an extent) her character design change. Luna now looks more mysterious and serious-looking... Even if her ceremonial hat does look a bit like a fancy napkin from a posh restaurant.

All of that said, with names such as 'Noctis Lucis Caelum' ('night', 'light' and 'sky' - or basically 'light of the night's sky' or something similar) and 'Stella Nox Fleuret' ('star', 'night' and 'fencing foil' - or 'foil of the night star' or something similar) floating about since the early drafts of the game nearly 10 years ago, there must already have been some part of the plot, however vaguely considered, regarding the night sky and the cosmos.

How much has changed? Will we ever know? It's not important now, but I guess there will be a number of people interested in investigating the original ideas of 'Versus'. It's such an odd thing for us to have such a long glimpse at a developing game, and only now being able to see it in a form resembling that which we will end up playing.

That's not important now, however. For now, let us look to the future and wonder about what this game will be like.

A car radio of sorts is a must for me. Not that me saying that will make it happen, but seriously... Would we be willing to drive long journeys in silence? We need some sort of music, or even a news station on the radio. A greatest hits of Final Fantasy could be a start (they could even maybe throw in The Black Mages, Gackt, etc).

I do hope for moogles.

Dionysos you legend! Noctis listening to Gackt on his car radio is pure awesome overload. Please make this happen Square Enix!!! :hyper:

...and the moogles too. It won't be the same without the pom poms. :sad3:
