So what 2009 releases are you most looking forward to? I have quite a few titles that I have my eye on...

  • APB - From one the original developers of the GTA series, the game basically is an incredibly large scale of cops and robbers in a GTA type world. It was announced shortly after GTA3: SA but it's still not out. I'm curious to see what will happen with it.
  • Bionic Commando - This game will flop but it'll be interesting to see just how badly.
  • inFamous - This game is an interesting game. You basically have electrical powers and you run GTA style through an open city using your special abilities to fight and whatnot. It should be decent.
  • Prototype - Pretty much the same concept as inFamous only it's not based around electrical powers. It's basically focused around shapeshifting and Spawn-like powers. It should be good if executed well. Pretty sure it's a PS3 only title.
And this game I wanted to set apart from the rest...
  • Massive Action Game - Horrible name but incredibly awesome. There are 256 players per battle and both sides have soldiers and commanders. There are 8 different squads (16 players per squad). The higher your rank, the more lower level players you are in charge of. And there is a battle master who actually decides which areas you should possess and where reinforcements should air drop. If it's exectued well, it'll be an incredibly awesome game. PS3 exclusive.

These are all DS games, most have Japanese release dates at least (some don't even have that) that are in 2009, some have late 2008 (so I'd expect 2009 NA releases)...

Tales of Hearts - Q4 2008 (J)
- It's actually been released in Japan now...I can't wait to try it out...I've only played Tales of Phantasia of the series & hope this one's anywhere near as good...Looks good anyways...

Suikoden Tierkreis - TBA 2009 (J)
- I've actually never played any of the Suikoden games, but of course have heard great things about 'em...

Shining Force Feather - Q2 2009 (J) - Can't wait for the new Shining Force! They really need to get back to their SRPG roots.

Phantasy Star 0 - Dec. 25, 2008 (J) - I haven't much liked the PS series since the Online MMO games came out...Which really sucks because End of the Millennium was such an amazing RPG!

Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One - Nov. 1, 2008 (J) - Another series I haven't been able to play yet...I have no idea if that Japanese release date is accurate...I haven't heard it being out already, but I haven't really been looking much for Japanese release dates, I guess...

Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Sky - March 2009 (J)/TBA 2009 (NA) - New Dragon Quest FINALLY...Looks pretty freakin sweet too!

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride - I've only played a little bit of this DQ via fan-translation and it is easily one of the best in the series.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie - This is, I think, the only DQ I haven't gotten a chance to play...Hmmm...

World Destruction - TBA 2008 (J) - I haven't seen the release of this yet either...The team of Kato & Mitsuda at it again...Speaking of Kato, there's also...

Blue Dragon Plus - Feb. 24, 2009 (NA) - Never played Blue Dragon either...This is supposed to be a SRPG...might be interesting...

EDIT: That Valkyrie Profile game is indeed out in Japan and so is World Destruction...

EDIT2: That Suikoden, Phantasy Star and two versions of Tales of Hearts (anime & CG versions) are all out in Japan now.

The only games I am looking forward for 2009 are pretty much a bunch of KOEI games.

Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires (PS3) - Since they added the Create a Warrior mode in this game, I am hoping they add Destiny mode as well. I won't be surpise if they don't add any of the removed characters back into the game but if they do, I will be extremely happy to get this game.

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce (PSP) - After viewing a few of the Awakening forms of Sun Ce, Sun Jian, and etc... I am only going to look forward to this game even more after they release Sun Quan's Awakening form. If his form looks awesome, then I'll most definitely buy this game then.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP) - Of course I am going to buy this game especially since it has Cecil, Terra, Kefka, and Golbez in it.

These are the only games I can think of right now. I would've put Samurai Warriors 3 (Wii) on my list but the game isn't even out in Japan yet so there isn't much for me to be excited over about this game just yet.

For me it has to be:

Final Fantasy XIII - Pretty obvious as I am on a Final Fantasy forum. It is being released in Japan in 2009 and I doubt it will reach North America/Europe by the end of the year but here's hoping. I do have my doubts because I haven't liked a Final Fantasy title under Square Enix and I bought into the Final Fantasy XII hype. They are doing well to hype me up for this title but I have my doubts that Square Enix will let me down once again. This is my most wanted game of 2009 but if it isn't released then there are more games I am looking forward to very much.

Heavy Rain - I was a big fan of Quantic Dreams' previous work with Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) and Heavy Rain will have very similar gameplay elements it has got me excited. Fahrenheit was such an amazing game and from what I have seen of Heavy Rain, I just get that feeling that I am going to enjoy this game. A lot of people have complained because the game won't have shooting but I love games that don't conform to the casual market with FPS titles and go for something different.

Mafia II - Mafia was probably one of my favourite under-appreciated games when it came out. I got the PC version and it was amazing. Whenever I hear bad things about this game it is always because they bought the console version which it is well known that the game did not port very well to consoles. However as far as I know, developers 2K Czech (Previously Illusion Softworks) are developing the game for PS3/X360 rather than porting so I have good hopes for it.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - I didn't get very hyped up about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune last year but I was getting a PS3 for Christmas last year. The game I was most looking forward to was Heavenly Sword and my dad was allowing me to get another. I had seen some pictures of Uncharted and I thought it looked pretty good so I decided to get it. I have to say that it wasn't the best game but it was definitely one of the most enjoyable games this generation. I have now since been uber psyched for the sequel.

Brutal Legend - I saw the teaser trailer just before the VGA and I noticed what seemed to be influenced by rock/heavy metal. Quite strange considering the game is an action/adventure type. I looked it up in Wikipedia and found out it is being done by the excellent Double Fine studio and designed by Tim Schafer. Already it is set up to look good. I read a bit of the plot and I literally laughed out loud. It as if he was high when he came up with this idea but I love it. It is very imaginative in a very different way to that of maybe Miyamoto or Sakaguchi. Also it has Jack Black acting as well as some rock legends which I think is great to add to the games atmosphere.

God of War III - I still have to play the second one. The only worrying thing is David Jaffe isn't the designer of this one although he says he would love to still be involved. I am not sure if he is and to what affect he would be but I'm hoping it doesn't differ too much from the previous titles.

I think that is it from me. There might be one or two I have missed out but that is all I can think of at this moment. Here is hoping I will enjoy these games when they come, I'm very positive that Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Mafia II I will enjoy because I just get that feeling about these games. Final Fantasy XIII is a risk due to Square Enix's history. Brutal Legend because of how different it is, it is going to be hit or miss and God of War III for changing personnel in charge.

Not looking forward to a whole bunch since I don't play games as much nowadays, but there are a few I want to play/finish.

Final Fantasy XIII (And Verses XIII) - Obvious reasons as to why. Only problem is I don't have a PS3 so it will likely take me some time to finish as I will be using my friends a few hours a week while I am over there.

Sonic and The Black Knight - I like sonic games. I liked sonic unleashed for the most part. So this may prove to be a good game. I just fear that they will make it TOO much of an RPG and ruin the game.

Pirates vs Ninjas Dodgeball - As a game, I'm not really looking forward to this. However as a potential party game, for people to play while drunk... well it could prove to be amusing to say the least. Till someones wii mote gets thrown into a wall and broken that is.

Samurai Warriors 3 - Possibly sometime to look forward to. I'm awaiting more information atm.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearer - Not sure. Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicles itself was not a bad game. But it was horribly short and the whole real time hack and slash just didn't make it add up to feeling like a Final Fantasy game. Still I will probably buy this and give it a shot.

Tenchu Shadow Assassins - If the controls for the wii mote don't suck, this game could be great.

As you can see I'm pretty apprehensive about the games I am awaiting. Ultimately I will probably rent most of these games since I have a tendency of beating games in ~1 week anyway.

I forgot to add on mine "Alpha Protocol". It's a spy game from Obsidian, the partial developers of the KOTOR series. Clearly BioWare was the powerhouse behind the KOTOR series but hopefully Obsidian took a lot away from that experience. I think this game could really turn into something impressive.

Final Fantasy XIII-I guess we all are looking forward to it.The graphics are just amazing and the battle systems seems quite satisfying in the trailer.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII-Of course it has impressed me and also has left me with the question how you battle(got no clue).
Tekken 6(PS3)-The new characters, new features, new accessories and equipment for your characters, too bad it's gonna take a lot of time(and patience) until it's released on PS3 as well.

Pokemon Platinum: Its Pokemon, so of course I'll buy it. Pokemon games are brilliant value for money for me, because I usually achieve max playtime on them, and besides that...Yellow, Crystal and Emerald were all good, and had some twists to keep me amused. I trust Platinum will have the same qualities.

Tales of Vesperia: Well, its already out in the US and JPN, of course...but since I live in the UK, I don't have it yet. I'm a huge fan of the Tales series, and I'm looking forward to playing this one when it hits the shores.

Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One: Silmeria, whilst very short, was a hell of a lot of fun. I didn't really take to Lenneth all that much, but I'm still going to buy this.

That is about all I can think of at the moment...I'll edit this post if I think of any more.

I am most looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII and King of fighters XII. I think the whole forum is looking forward to XIII because they can not wait any longer. Tales of Hearts of course I can get it on christmas and some other games made by Square Enix. I really hope they announce Xenosaga Episode IV.

Personally I thought that KOTOR 2 was cack, but I'm still following this title with interest. It's a very interesting take on the RPG genre to say the least.

Apart from that I am looking forward to:

Dragon Quest IX (Nintendo DS)
Dragon Quest V (Nintendo DS)
Final Fantasy XIII (hopefully anyway!)
Chrono Trigger (Nintendo DS)

I probably forgot a ton of stuff. I'm really not up to scratch with what's happening in the world of gaming at the moment...

No doubt.

Dissidia (PSP)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)

Mainly Final Fantasy. I'm more intrigued by its enchanting storylines and music, and of course, gameplay. For Final Fantasy XIII and Versus, I'm particularly interested in the story- meaning what is it about and what's going on.

Persona 4: Loved 2, 3 and FES. So hearing SE are going to bring it to Europe is just amazing and mega fantastic!! Cant wait for that beauty!

Tales of Vesperia: Tales of Symphonia (sp) was a great Gamecube game and had lovely graphics and a story to boot.

Star Ocean 2 Evolution: Loved the original PS1 game, so this is going to be awesome!

Street Fighter IV - They have FINALLY brought SF to the 3D world. I want to see if it feels and seems the same as the original 2D modes. =p.

Tekken 6 - It's freakin' tekken. I bought T5: DR on the PS3 just to cure my crave of it until T6 comes out.

Final Fantasy XIII/Versus - Of course looking forward to these 2. I meannn, I am in an FF Forum.

You have T5 DR? Want a few rounds sometime? PM me your PSN if you like :D

Tekken 6: Always loved it since 1 and can't wait for 6 :D

Dissidia: FF fighting game on psp? Don't mind if I do

Persona 4: Loved 3 and this looks promising :)

Well, I was looking forward to the whole Fabula Nova Crysallis deal coming out in 2009, but who knows when it'll really show it's face. -_-

If Agito or Versus remarkably do make it to the US before the end of 09, I'll be sure to pick them up.

I'm also looking forward to Dissidia of course.

Resident Evil 5 is a must have for me, since I love everything RE, and RE4 was my favorite by far, and 5 seems to be combining elements of the older RE's with the awesomeness that was 4.

Also, I'm not much for these kind of games- but Dragon Age: Origins looks pretty interesting. I'll be sure to see what's up with that game as it progresses.

As a last mention- Afro Samurai, X-Blades, and God of War III.

God of War 3 and final fantasy XII. Is final fantasy XIII versus only for the PS3? cause i know final fantasy XIII is for the xbox 360 and PS3 I hope versus isn't PS3 only

Hmm let me see:

First of all that apart from all the games that i'm going to list i'm owning only an Xbox360 and a PS2 so... I'm actually dying to get my hands on a PS3 and a PSP

Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope

As a fan of Earth's catastrophes, Atom Energy, Space and a good RPG i'm willing to buy this game when it comes out. The trailer just got me really hyped about it

Killzone 2

If i get my hands on a PS3, that's definetely a title i'm looking forward too.
I 've seen countless video footage, the previews about it are really good and let me state that i had the First and it was Ok...better campaign than Halo's but in terms of Multiplayer there no comparison..

Well those two are my top ones for the year 2009 and i still missed GREAT titles for the year 2008 that i have to get them!

*Looks at Solid Snake's picture* :'(

Personally I thought that KOTOR 2 was cack, but I'm still following this title with interest. It's a very interesting take on the RPG genre to say the least.

Apart from that I am looking forward to:

Dragon Quest IX (Nintendo DS)
Dragon Quest V (Nintendo DS)
Final Fantasy XIII (hopefully anyway!)
Chrono Trigger (Nintendo DS)

I probably forgot a ton of stuff. I'm really not up to scratch with what's happening in the world of gaming at the moment...

I completely forgot about Streetfighter IV actually! I used to be a big Streetfighter fan when I was a kid, and my friends and I would play Streetfighter II on Amiga or PC all the time after school.

Killzone 2 (PS3) - I'm pretty sure by now, anyone who has even heard of the game at least wants to play it.

Uncharted 2 (PS3) - Quite easily #1 on the top of my most wanted games list this year, Uncharted was sensational and if Naughty Dog just fixed the minor issues they had in Uncharted it could be my favourite game of all time.

Bioshock 2 (PS3) - I still haven't completed the first one, which I'm in progress of doing at the moment, but I'm loving Bioshock at the moment and can't wait to have a go at the 2nd :-)

There's definitely more...I just can't think which ones straight off the top of my head atm. D:
