[18/07] Final Fantasy XIII-2 Scheduled for January 2012 in North America

I believe this was already mentioned in Game Informer‘s coverage of the game, but FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 was listed for a January 2012 release.

This information has been further backed up today by Square-Enix and their Comic Con line-up. FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 will be playable there, of course, but hidden within the press release was a small bit of news.

FINAL FANTASY XIII-2′s expected ship date for North America (and probably Europe) is currently January 2012. This means it is scheduled to release about a month after its Japanese counterpart.

This should be unsurprising, as FINAL FANTASY XIII’s localization was also done around the time of the game’s domestic release.

Our next new information coverage should come at GamesCom in August, so in the meantime, look forward to it!

Well, for once I have something positive to say: that is quite efficient. It normally takes bloody months for them to get off their arses and release a localized version.

...but this is FFXIII-2, the last thing I'd ever want to see localized. That not only nullifies my pleasure at the surprising level of efficiency shown, it turns it into a negative comment. So, boo on you, Square Enix.

This should be unsurprising? Consistency and efficiency are two things Square Enix haven't shown in years, along with competence, intelligence, common sense...the list goes on, and on, and on.

Given that FFXIII's localization was extremely poor as well - i.e. they grabbed voice actors from wherever they could and made them say the lines in monotone - FFXIII-2's speedy localization could be extremely bad...the voice acting could be just as bad; in fact, it probably will be, hence why they're getting it done so quickly.

I never played FF13 and people constantly telling me its not that great and now this part 2....honestly I should be freeking thrilled to play a FF title on the ps3 and yet I am not....neither for this 13-2 thingy...it all just looks freeking mehhhhhh!!!

Shit the only thing I want now is freeking FF13Versus...

I think I have to buy FF13 at one point just to try it out,.,...its final fantasy after all...

I'm a little surprised. I would've thought they'd hold back 'til March to coincide with the 2 year anniversary of FFXIII, but whatever, I'm not complaining.

That's... fast. I like how they keep releasing tiny bits of news every few days or so. This is my first time anticipating so much for a game. I hope I am free for at least 1 week when the game is released.
