Here we have the debut trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, shown today as part of a Square Enix press event. It's small, screen-capped from a feed and overlayed with moonspeak, but there it is. Sora and Riku teaming up over something I cannot possibly comprehend.
I absolutely adored Kingdom Hearts, enough so that I saw my way through its sequel. I found the continuing adventures of Sora and company to be primarily interested in obfuscating a threadbare plot as meaningful and exploiting attachment to previously well-crafted characters. So, my enthusiasm isn't at a fever pitch or anything but the hairs on the back of my neck still stand up whenever I think of a Keyblade and this has potential.

Ooh is that a Hunchback of Notre Dome level?

Also the gameplay looks very impressive, possibly on the same level, if not better than Birth By Sleep, we'll have to wait and see.

And I have no idea whats going on in the plot. But I'm half tempted to wait and let it be a suprise.

gameplay is looking pretty awesome. Im just curious as to when the game takes place considering you play as what it looks like, Sora from the first game.

:hmmm: Well this certainly is interesting, and I also saw that Notre Dome stage :lew:. I'm curious about why Ansem: Seeker of Darkness, and Xemnas are there, but I guess the more trailers that will be released, the more clear it will all be :wacky:

That first part with Mickey is one of the secret endings from BBS. So it may take after that as a sequel, and then therefore act as a prequel for the original KH. Judging by designs and storyline of that one cutscene... it's vague to go on. :hmmm:

Never the less I wonder if they'll ever run out of Disney movies for stages. :wacky:

Still watching the video, but I love that they are bringing back the song at the beginning, right after Merlin speaks. They need to bring more of the deep music of the first game back and less of this cartoony stuff. I mean, the game needs to be cartoony, but they pushed it a little too much with some of the music. Most of the game is very serious, and it kind of takes part of the "deepness" away from the game.

omg hunchback :D
although I have expressed many times that I am kind of over KH spin offs, this game is definitely the one reason I will be buying a 3DS! Mostly coz Riku seems to be playable :D <3

I'm actually considering purchasing a 3DS (when some price cuts happen) just for this game. It surpasses my expectations by a thousand. No more trailers for me, I'm gonna find out what's going on by playing the game and being surprised.

Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has said the recently detailed 3DS title Dream Drop Distance will be the “prologue for the final battle” now that the franchise’s plot is “moving towards the last phase of the story.”

Siliconera has its hands on the official press release, in which Nomura directly addressed fans and hinted at drastic gameplay overhauls.
“As with other titles many surprises await,” he said. “A completely new system is being prepared, which will let you gaze at the vision of the future of Kingdom Hearts. I believe it will be bold and have even more exhilarating action.”
During Square Enix’s First Production Event yesterday a video of the game in action was shown, and 3D-specific jumping, falling and flying mechanics were detailed.
The Kingdom Hearts series debuted in 2002 and has spawned nine games, a collectible card game, a manga series, and several Japanese novels.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance turned up at yesterday’s Square Enix First Production Event to great excitement, and producer Yasushi Yasue seemed only too happy to explain the game’s title and action bent.

Andriasang reports Yasue’s explanation of the game’s mysterious title as having multiple interpretations, but referring to 3D-specific gameplay mechanics shown off in an accompanying trailer.
“We want to give the game the feel of breaking speed,” Yasue commented, referring to a new wall-kick ability.
The producer re-emphasised the importance of character switching, suggesting players will be flicking back and forth between Sora and Riku at briefer intervals than in previous multi-character titles.
Director Tetsuya Nomura has advised that Dream Drop Distance is the prologue to the final battle in the Kingdom Hearts series plotline.
No date yet.

Fan gasm tiems. :ryan:

The trailer looked epic win. The battle system looks great and Sora was performing feats I had never see him do outside of cutscenes, so it seems he got better. :awesome: I really want to know why Ansem, Seeker Of Darkness and Xemnas are there.....:jess: I can't wait to learn more about the game!! :x3:
